Chapter 20: Chapter 20 - Dead End

The soft breezy wind blew through the air as the dim grey clouds rapidly drifted into sight. The usual bright radiating sun hid behind eerie blankets whilst droplets of rain began slowly falling upon the concrete ground below.

Marcus stood within the safety of his classroom while the roaring of the northern winds howled upon the loud metal patched walls, causing ear-numbing clutters every time a strong gust swooped by.

"-add 16. Anyone know the answer to that?" Marcus shouted over the noise as he pointed at an equation written on the board, his eyes slowly scanning the room.

A small blonde-haired girl with a pigtail's hand shot up,

"22." She answered with confidence.

"That's correct." Marcus smiled, writing down the number 14 on the board, "Now, explain how you got that answer."

"Uh… 6 plus 6 is 12, carry the 1 to the left. 1 plus 1 is 2." She explained, while Marcus nodded, giving her a clap as she finished her explanation.

"That's right. Good job." He praised as he continued teaching his class basic addition, the eyes of his students all staring at the board with full attention.

Very quickly, over 45 minutes had passed with no major problems, Marcus had given his class a worksheet to complete while he roamed around the room to provide assistance to those who need it.

*CRASH*

"DO NOT MOVE!" A sudden deep shout burst through the entrance as the wooden classroom door was flung across the room, luckily causing no injuries to the students inside. "I say again. DO NOT MOVE." The voice called out once more as this time a squadron of 12 military-equipped soldiers barged inside, each holding a heavy-duty gun with both hands, pointing it around before locating Marcus and focusing their aim at him.

"What the hell is going on here?!" Marcus put his arms up in surprise while glaring at the intimidating soldiers surrounding him with caution.

"Evacuate the children out the room." The leader of the squadron ordered, resulting in 2 of the soldiers repositioning their gun from Marcus to the young children.

"All of you. Move to the hallway." One of the soldiers ordered, resulting in the ear-wrenching cries of multiple young 8-year-old children to cry. Their legs trembling as some began dropping to the ground in fear while others had begun soiling themselves.

"Don't point your guns at them! They're only children!" Marcus screamed back at the soldiers with his arms held above his head, unable to reassure his students, nor assist them in any way.

"You shut up." One of the soldiers slammed the butt of the gun across Marcus' face, causing him to collapse on the ground in pain.

"Hurry up and move." A soldier, slowly ushering the students out of the classroom, to which the students began hesitantly helping each other towards the door, their cries softening and their fear of the strange men rising after seeing their beloved teacher laying on the ground in pain.

"All the students have been evacuated." The soldier reported back after returning to the classroom, allowing all the attention to focus once more on Marcus.

"Marcus Elori. You have been suspected of joining forces with the monsters beyond the gate and committing treason against the human race. Under the order of Commander Bruce Elori of the Special Forces, you will be executed for the safety and the future of humanity. Do you have any last words?" The leader said with nothing but a blank face.

Marcus gritted his teeth, his mind swirling as the information entered his mind. "Dad sent you here to kill me?" He muttered with slight disbelief, however, it slowly made sense to him.

Of course, his father wouldn't have to blink an eye to have him killed. He was viewed to be a threat. A threat should be exterminated. That was his job, his role.

A small chuckle escaped Marcus' lips as reality set in. He was going to die. He was going to die at the hands of his own father. The irony.

"That is correct. Commander Elori was the one directing this kill." The soldier replied, taking that question as his final words, positioning his gun and pulling his trigger.

*Bang*

The sound echoed out through the small classroom and into the hallway. The screams of the students rang out, echoing through the half-broken-down school. The smoke from the barrel of the gun slowly subsided, leaving the body of Marcus dropping to the ground as a bullet penetrated through his forehead.

A spasming Marcus laid on the ground as the head wrenching pain pierced through his body, his muscles tensed while his eyes rolled back. A soulful scream rang out as his consciousness began to fade to black.

"I-I don't want to die. I don't want to die. I don't want to die." Marcus unconsciously murmured, his arms gripping into his blood-stained forehead as if trying to dig out the bullet with the last of his energy.

*Ding*

A daunting black portal slowed began to form behind Marcus as his wounds slowly healed, the bullet lodged within his forehead, pushed itself out, and cluttered to the ground as the blood flowed back into the wound, closing itself off.

"What the-?" The soldiers distracted by the sudden appearance of a unique-looking gate retreated a step back while the gate grew larger by the second, slowly taking up one whole side of the room.

"The readings going off the chart-" A soldier exclaimed after taking out a gate sensor prototype, the numbers reaching over 99999 on its dial.

Soon the gate's growth began dwindling, stabilizing itself at around 2 meters tall, restricted by the roof of the classroom. However, instead of gaining a sense of relief from the stopping of the gate growth, the soldiers could only stand in caution as 2 humanoid figures could be seen slowly walking out. A young-looking male with short silvery hair while beside him stood a girl with similar features, except with hair up to her shoulders. Their crimson red eyes and the ominous pitch black armored clothing which they wore screamed danger to the mind of the soldiers.

"Is he the new King?" The male glanced down at Marcus while the female nodded, picking him up and carrying him through the portal.

"You must be the enemies then." The male glanced at the nervous soldiers with a sly smile, taking out a pair of pitch-black daggers with a red gem imbued within its hilt.

"Brother. Clean up the mess quickly, we have a busy day ahead of ourselves." The white hair girl appeared back out the gate, looking nonchalantly at her brother and the soldiers before walking back in with disinterest.

"Alright. You heard what she said," He smiled, bending forward, and before they would even blink, the white hair male disappeared from his spot and reappeared a second later holding 12 cleanly severed heads with both hands. His dagger already sheathed back behind his back as he made his way back into the gate. The beheaded bodies simultaneously dropping to the ground while the gate slowly closed behind him.
