Chapter 2: Ya Boi Got Subtitled

Ever since entering into the city, Akira had noticed one thing in particular with the citizens, and it was that they all seemed to be speaking in English. Despite how much the city resembled that of China's past, they were all speaking in English.

Whether or not English was the universal language here in this world, Akira had no idea. Fortunately, this was no issue as he was actually pretty proficient in the English language. If the locals here did end up speaking Chinese, then there'd definitely be some issues with communicating...

Unfortunately, his problems didn't lie in speaking, but in reading.

Despite speaking clear English, the language he saw written on multiple different sign boards and such were all written in a script he was unfamiliar with. They certainly weren't English, Japanese nor Chinese for that matter. He didn't know if the script was unique to this world, but it still didn't change the fact that he couldn't read it.

"Oh, man... this is such a pain." Akira sighed as he rubbed the back of his head. 'Food isn't an issue, I can just go outside and hunt something. But my living arrangement are another thing, how am I supposed to make some money? What money is even used here?'

While Akira wasn't completely new to sleeping out in the wilderness, he certainly didn't prefer it when compared to a warm and cozy bed.

'In any case, there's not much I can do about it. For now, I might as well head out and get something to eat. That would also give me some time to nurture these new abilities a bit more, especially since I seem to have some skills that weren't even in the official canon.'

With that in mind, Akira quickly began making his way towards the entrance of the city.

✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦

It took some searching, but Akira did eventually end up finding some wild boars. He had honestly eaten enough of those fruits on those trees to last him for damn weeks, so he was craving for some serious protein right now.

He did have a few encounters with those tribal looking creatures, but they weren't much of a threat, especially with his newfound abilities. Overall, it was a successful hunt as Akira was now seated in front of one of the campfires belonging to those tribal creatures, skewered above was a large block of boar meat that was slowly but surely being cooked.

'Man, wind magic really is convenient.' Akira smiled as he looked at the blade of wind that he had just conjured, it was spinning above his right palm before he threw it into a nearby tree, leaving a large slash on its base. 'Fire magic would have also worked, but I'd risk having burnt this thing to a crisp.'

Using the large sharp branch he skewered into the meat, he continued rotating the block of meat over the flame. Looking upwards, Akira could see that the time was probably around three to five in the afternoon, he's basing that off the position of the sun of course.

"Oh yeah, the Live Stream thing..."

Lowering his hand from the branch, Akira swiped his hand, bringing up the familiar system screen.

Since he had been focusing on the city for the past two hours or so, he had completely pushed away the existence of the Live Stream feature in the system. Now that he had time, he might as well explore it a bit more while he waited for his food.

'Should I start a stream and see what happens? Though, I don't really want to end up getting teleported away into another world soon after literally entering this one...' Akira frowned slightly as he stared at the screen. 'Then again, maybe I'll be sent to a modernised world where I can actually use my money, that would be better, even if temporarily.'

If he remembered what the system had explained previous on the menu screen about the issued missions, each time a mission was to send him into another world, it would only be temporary. Though that all entirely depended on what world he'd be sent to.

"Screw it, let's give it a shot." Akira finally decided, though he quickly stopped. "Actually, maybe I should wait for my food to finish first before I risk getting sent to another world..."

And that was what he did.

For the next few minutes, Akira patiently waited for the boar meat to cook. He had obviously taken off a majority of the fat, because eating it was honestly pretty disgusting in his opinion. He didn't mind a small amount of fat, but too much would just make him throw up.

Anyway, after the meat was finished cooking, he quickly finished it off in a matter of minutes, which was pretty impressive given how large the slab of meat he had cooked was. On top of that, the boar meat here was pretty damn good, at least better than the boar meat he had eaten back home.

"Damn, that was pretty good." Akira commented lightly as he quickly rinsed his mouth with some water. "Okay, NOW let's give it a shot."

Opening back up the menu, he saw the familiar screen with all of the live stream information being displayed. Of course, since he hadn't started it yet, there was currently no-one watching nor was there a mission being displayed yet.

"Here goes nothing..."

『Live Stream Starting Now』

『Please Standby』

『Live Stream Started』

『Mission Generated』

After a relatively long string of notification, all of the information regarding the stream was soon displayed in front of him, both the public information as well as the private information that only he could see. Together with this, there was also another screen that showed a live feed of him.

Blinking in surprise at the live camera, Akira turned his head towards where the origin point of the camera was, to which he noticed a small and transparent camera of sorts pointed at him while hovering in the air.

The live feed showed him standing in the grassy plains, and the quality was absolutely top notch, easily 1080p or more. Akira even attempted a few simple movements, to which the live video feed proved itself even more as the actions he performed were display with impeccable timing.

"Interesting, let's see this mission..."

'Oh, so those tribal guys were these things called hilichurls?' Akira mentally commented as he stared at the icons beside each of the enemies listed. He couldn't really get a good look though, considering each picture only showed a close up of the face and some of the body. 'Considering there's only one of these lawachurl things, it must be the strongest, right?'

Akira pondered over the mission as he read over the bits of information, which he found difficulty to put to any good use as he was too unfamiliar with what any of these enemies were and what they could do, aside from the normal hilichurls of course.

At the very least, it seemed as though the mission provided him with the option to navigate. Probably meaning that the system would guide him towards the quest location, because by the gods he sure as hell didn't know where this Pyre Tribe was.

Regarding the rewards though, he wasn't sure what the hell Mora was, so he didn't really know how to react about that specific reward. The other two, on the other hand, his curiosity was grabbed. The Gift Package could give him something good again like before, and the third reward was pretty damn mysterious with those question marks.

As he was pondering, Akira soon noticed a string of messages soon appearing on one of the other windows.

『'Xingqiu' has joined the stream』

『'Ganyu' has joined the stream』

『'Ningguang' has joined the stream』

『'Hu Tao' has joined the stream』

『'Zhongli' has joined the stream』

『...』

Akira could only blink at as countless people began joining the stream, and the number of them didn't seem to be slowing down at all. Looking towards the number of viewers, the viewer count had already reached over a thousand in the past few seconds.

It seemed that it took some time for people to build enough courage to actually join, not that he could honestly blame them. He assumed that they were probably seeing a floating screen right now, so who the hell wouldn't be suspicious?

Though what confused him a bit was that some specific individuals that were joining the stream had some kind of special label next to their names, which obviously seemed to suggest that the system held them in higher importance compared to the rest.

For what reason, he had no idea.

"In any case, I have an audience now, now onto the subject of this mission." Akira muttered to himself as he tapped onto the mission detail screen once again. "So, navigation is entirely optional. As if I'm not going to use it..."

While Akira was pondering over the mission, the people who had joined the chat were all sending countless messages across the chat screen. Naturally, a majority of the messages were all on the topic of whatever the hell was going on.

『Xiangling: What is this?』

『Xingqiu: Oh, I was not expecting I am familiar with to be here!』

『Hu Tao: Hm? There are so many people here! I am Hu Tao, current Director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, feel free to come by, we welcome any future unfortunate souls!』

『Chongyun: I don't understand...』

『Xingqiu: You're here too, Chongyun!』

『Madame Ping: Calm down now, children』

『Yaoyao: Master!』

As the messages continued pouring in, Akira didn't really pay them much attention for now as he kept his focus on gathering information based on what the mission details provided him. From what he could put together, he very well may be dealing with a lot of fire.

This was entirely speculation though, his only basis for that was the fact that the tribe was literally called the 'Pyre Tribe'. He'd only be certain of this after seeing them himself, so all he had at the moment were mere speculations.

『Hu Tao: Who's this person on the screen? What's with those strange words?』

『Xingqiu: It's interesting, I do not recognise the language he is speaking』

『Qiqi: Qiqi wants coconut milk..』

『Hu Tao: Qiqi, let me bury you!』

『Xinyan: Calm down there, Hu Tao! What's even happening with this weird thing?』

『Xiangling: Wait, guys! There's writing at the bottom, you think that's what he's saying?』

True to the words of the first two people, Akira was currently muttering to himself in Japanese, so it was impossible for them to really understand what he was saying. Soon enough though, Akira stopped his muttering and looked at the live stream.

'Say what?' Akira blinked upon noticing the last message that was sent by that person under the name of 'Xiangling'. Looking at the live feed, he too noticed the white text at the bottom whenever he spoke. 'Wait.. I was subtitled? What is this, anime?!'

Akira could feel his brow twitching slightly as he thought this.

While there were certainly a number of individuals who were constantly messaging in the chat room, there were of course a certain few who were merely observing instead of actively deciding to send any kind of message.

✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦

Meanwhile, a certain director could be seen speeding her way through the building she was in before quickly arriving in front of a tall young man sitting at one of the tables. This was of course Hu Tao, and in front of her was Zhongli, consultant here at the parlor.

"Zhongli, you also have this screen!" Hu Tao cried out as she zoomed in front of the male, who was merely observing the screen with clear interest as he held a small cup in his hands. "What do you think this thing is? Isn't it so cool?!"

Zhongli glanced up at the director before replying in his usual calm tone. "It is certainly interesting."

"It's a great opportunity, Zhongli! Just imagine how much advertising I can do here with this thing, just look at all of the people!" Hu Tao grinned with a glint of excitement in her blossom-shaped eyes. "Help me out, Zhongli! We'll have plenty of customers in no time!"

"I do not believe it is wise to do so, Director Hu."

Zhongli gave a simple response before looking at the screen again, though his attention was mainly focused on the young man that was present on the screen. It was obvious to him that this individual was most likely the reason for this rather strange phenomenon.

On top of that, with him being the literal Geo Archon currently hiding, also agreed with the people in the chat. Despite the thousands of years that he had been alive, not once had he ever heard of the language that the young man had been muttering in. That begged the question...

What were his origins?

✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦

Elsewhere, a certain individual within the boundaries of Liyue Harbor could be seen tending to a small garden of flowers while actively paying attention to the activities within the live stream. The woman was obviously an elder, perhaps in her late early eighties or so.

This woman was Madame Ping.

Despite her appearance, she was far more than what people here in the harbor know. After all, she was an adeptus who had taken the identify of a simple elderly woman here in the city. Just looking at her, it'd be difficult for ordinary people to tell she was anything special.

'So, it was that young man?'

Madame Ping looked at the young man on the screen with a hint of interest, it wasn't the first time she had seen him. If she wasn't mistaken, she had seen him walking around Liyue Harbor a few hours ago during the early morning.

At first, she had felt a strange surge of elemental power radiating off of him. It was strange though, he didn't possess a vision nor did the elemental energy from the atmosphere gather inside him, more like it was attracted and merely stayed around him. More specifically, the elemental energy of Anemo.

While it wasn't unheard of, it was very uncommon for anyone without a Vision to gather elemental energy like he did, at least not to such an extent. Whoever this young man was on the screen, Madame Ping knew that he was anything but normal.

✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦

The people that were the most concerned however, were of the course the governing body of Liyue. They are known as the Liyue Qixing, a group of seven individuals who acted as the governing body of all of Liyue. So, some pretty damn important people.

Within the Jade Chamber, a literal floating island of sorts in Liyue Harbor, one of the members of the Qixing could be seen observing the live stream with both a look of interest and of wariness. These emotions were hard to see though, hidden behind a calm expression.

"Ningguang!"

Turning her attention upwards, she watched as a female with long purple-hair tied into twintails had quickly rushed into the office space, and floating beside her was the very same screen she had. This girl was Keqing, the Yuheng of the Liyue Qixing.

"Ningguang, the people down in the harbor are all going into a bit of a panic! What should we do about this?" Keqing somewhat shouted as she placed her hands on the desk that Ningguang sat at. "This strange screen is causing a big commotion!"

"We shall get the millelith to calm everyone down first, we'll have to assure them that we are currently investigating the situation." Ningguang responded calmly before glancing back at the screen. "What do you think of this, Keqing?"

"Well... it's certainly something out of the ordinary." Keqing replied in a rather unsure and hesitant tone. She too was surprised and wary of the screen next to her, she honestly didn't know what to think of it. "Whoever this person is, they're most likely the reason behind all of this. Should we send some of the millelith to track him down?"

"No for now." Ningguang shook her head. "We should observe his actions first, we don't want to provoke an unfamiliar party."

Keqing stared at Ningguang for a second before nodding her head, turning her fullest attention back towards her own person screen where the young man could now be seen tapping onto his own version of the screen.

✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦

"I'll keep this short. My name is Akira, a pleasure to meet you all." Akira introduced himself in a blunt yet friendly manner. "I know that all of you are confused, and that's understandable. But I assure you, I mean none of you any harm. If you would, please turn your attention to the prompt above each of your chat screens."

Whether or not people were listening to him, Akira had no idea. In any case, he had wanted to direct their attention up to above the chat screen where the very basic pieces of information regarding the stream were present. Most importantly, the mission.

"I'm sure you can all see the mission, that's the purpose behind today's stream. I hope you enjoy."

Akira didn't have much to say, so he simply ended it with that as he quickly opened up the mission before turning on the navigational function. Right after doing so, Akira widened his eyes slightly when he saw a faint trail of golden light extending from his feet to who knows where.

Without wasting time, Akira quickly kicked off the ground and began running along the trail.
