Chapter 2: The Eye of Cthulhu

Amber had no idea what to expect when she followed Keston down into a very-well hidden tunnel system deep underground. There were many ideas, some rather concerning ones, but she certainly hadn't expected to find a literal portal to another world.

Keston didn't merely dig a hole underground and place a portal, he created an entire underground system that was made to look like an abandoned mine. However, that mineshaft was merely a distraction, he had secret passageways that eventually lead down to a small and isolated room beneath the mines where the portal was located.

In any case, Amber couldn't help but glance around at the new environment with eyes widened in utter shock. Although she had only known Keston for a few days, it wasn't exactly hard to figure out that he had some secrets.

Not to mention his behaviour on certain topics, but also his way of avoiding the topic of his home.

"Is this somewhere in Mondstadt?" Amber muttered to herself as she stared up at the massive wooden mansion in front of her before looking around at the grassy fields. "Wait, why does it look so... blocky? What is going on?!"

[Amber has joined]

[...]

[Blessing of the Terrarian has been activated]

"Huh?" Amber hadn't noticed at first, but she seemed to have a small but clear block of text in the corner of her vision. Glancing at it in confusion, she quickly scanned her eyes over the words. "Blessing of the Terrarian? What does that mea-woah!"

Amber was caught of guard when a powerful green aura seemed to envelop her entire body, and with it she felt a sudden surge of immense power growing within her. Although she didn't undergo any physical changes, she felt truly incredible.

"Woah, what is this power...?" Amber couldn't help but feel shocked as she clenched both of her fists. She was never that powerful when it came to physical strength, but she felt as if she could lift entire buildings! "Does it have to do with Keston?"

"Amber!"

"E-Eh?"

Amber flinched when a loud voice suddenly sounded in her ear, turning around instinctively, she saw a tall figure wearing a powerful suit of silver coloured armour with a cloak of sorts draped over their shoulders. The person ran towards her before stopping a meter or two away.

"What are you doing here?!"

"Wh-Who are you? Hold on, that voice..." Amber blinked after getting a good listen to the newcomer's tone of voice. "Keston?!"

"Yes, it's me. That doesn't matter though, you need to go back to Teyvat!"

"We're not in Teyvat...? Wait, what is going on?! Where are we?!" Amber began firing off countless question one after another, you couldn't really blame her considering the current situation. "What was up with the portal, Keston? I don't understand!"

"Look, I'll explain some things later! For now, you need to go now before its too late!" Judging by Keston's tone, Amber could tell that he seemed rather desperate. However, before she could reply... "Shit... it's already too late now..."

[Boss battle detected]

[All portals have been temporarily blocked]

After that announcement was made to the both of them on the small chat box, they both heard a loud and distorted groan. While it sounded like a groan, there was also a hint in it that seemed to suggest a roar as well. In any case, it certainly was unnatural.

The portal next to them that was previously open had now turned transparent and became black and white in colour, but they didn't get time to properly look at it as they both soon noticed something rather... horrifying descending from the night sky.

The figure was an utterly massive eyeball that could easily be compared to the size of a small house, with a bluish-purple iris and blood-red fleshy meat hanging and swaying from the main circular eyeball that made up its body.

Honestly, just looking at it made Amber want to puke.

"Amber, listen to me!" Keston shouted as he still kept his eyes trained on the approaching entity. "We're going to have to work together and quickly take this thing down. If you aren't up to the task, then please head inside the mansion for safety."

Unlike in the game, bosses like the Eye of Cthulhu couldn't just go through walls, but that didn't mean they could be trapped. If strong enough, the bosses certainly could smash their way through while leaving destruction in their wake.

Hearing his words, Amber blinked a few times before shaking her head and walking beside him. "I still don't know what's going on, but... I can't leave you to deal with this on your own."

"I appreciate the thought, but I really can't risk you being on the battlefield, especially when you're so ill-equipped." Keston shook his head as he stepped forward. "Just go inside of the mansion and wait for me, I'll be able to handle it on my own."

"Hey, wait...!"

Amber didn't get to fully get out a sentence as Keston dashed forwards, his speed seemingly accelerating the more steps he took. She then watched as a strange dark-grey and blue circular object seemed to suddenly materialise into his right hand.

With a swing of his arm, a long green string or wire seemed to be connected to his hand while the main body of the object he threw dug its way quickly through the air before hitting the massive eyeball with impressive force, the impact causing a number of powerful water streams to suddenly erupt and striking the eyeball soon after.

Although it didn't seem to do much damage, it certainly caught the monster's attention as it quickly rushed after Keston after he dashed underneath and past it. Skidding to a stop, Keston began rapidly hitting the monster with that strange weapon of his, causing countless streams of water to erupt out.

"Watch out!"

Keston heard Amber's shout, but he didn't seem concerned as he quickly jumped back as the Eye of Cthulhu attempted to crash its body into him by powering through the endless strikes from his Riptide. As soon as it crashed into the place where he previously stood, it formed a large crater with cracks forming outwards from its core.

"Thanks for the heads-up, just get into the house now!"

"R-Right...!"

Although reluctant, Amber decided to place her trust in Keston this time as she made her way through the front entrance of the mansion. She noticed how barren the interior was, but she didn't care right now. Quickly making her way up to the next floor, she rushed to one of the open windows.

When she looked out, she could see Keston jumping around while avoiding countless dashes and strikes from the Eye of Cthulhu. Despite its rather large size, the monster possessed a rather impressive level of agility.

She soon noticed how smaller variations of the main monster seemed to materialise out of thin air as masses of flesh before flying around just like the boss. Undisturbed, Keston suddenly extended his free hand towards one of the newly spawned entities.

To Amber's surprise, what looked to be a long silver chain with a hook suddenly shot out at impressive speed. The hook seemed to grip tightly onto one of the smaller eyeballs, to which Keston jumped and spun his body, the chain moving along with his motions as the eyeball that the hook had grabbed swept across the air, hitting all the other enemies around it.

"What a pain..." Keston clicked his tongue as he saw more of the Eye of Cthulhu's servants spawning in. Looking up, he saw the main boss hovering above, most likely waiting for a chance to strike him. 'If you're going to take this long, I'll just go up to you.'

His Riptide disappeared back into his inventory as he used his hook to quickly grab onto one of the nearby servants, he then soon found himself being pulled towards it. Just before crashing into the smaller eye, Keston released the hook before kicking off the servant, using it as a mid-air platform.

Repeating his actions, Keston continued to grapple his way up towards the Eye of Cthulhu, using as many of the servants as necessary to close the distance. For any that were too far for him to hook onto, he utilised his wings to close some of the distance before hooking them.

Since his wings were only the Fledgling Wings, there was only so much he could really do with them.

After managing to reach the Eye of Cthulhu, Keston used the last servant as an object to use his grapple to swing himself up into the air. Along with using his wings, Keston managed to throw himself up a few meters above the boss.

"Now...let's make sparks fly!"

As Keston began dropping down onto the Eye of Cthulhu, two blades seemed to materialise into his hands. The one in his right hand was entirely green in colour, with the exception being the handle. From appearance alone, it had traits reminiscent of that of plant-life.

On the other hand, there was another sword, and although much smaller in size compared to the other, was in no way inferior in appearance. It was mainly blue with the handle and part of the blade being white in colour, along with what looked to be a ruby-like gen attached above the cross guard.

These two weapons were the Blade of Grass and Enchanted Sword.

The Blade of Grass was relatively easy for Keston to obtain, but the Enchanted Sword was honestly another thing entirely. He had found many sword shrines in this endless world, but it took quite a bit of time before he found one with an Enchanted Sword.

Fortunately, unlike in the game, this world didn't have a barrier and the number of resources was potentially endless. True, the dangers would probably be far more compared to the game, but you gotta give up one thing for another.

Landing on top of the Eye of Cthulhu, Keston quickly had to adapt to the movements of the boss as it continued trying to shake him off. Without hesitation after having managed to stabilise himself, he began raining down slash after slash onto the boss.

As each slash connected, his Enchanted Sword seemed to release a bright flash of light after every hit while his Blade of Grass released poisonous spores and small but sharp blades of grass that seemed to lock onto the boss and flying into it.

In response to this, the Eye of Cthulhu began charging around, crashing into the ground and spinning in circles in the air. Keston was only knocked off when the boss spun upside down, to which he began falling to the ground.

'These things are so annoying!' Keston saw a lot of of the servants flying at him, but due to the sheer number of them, he only managed to kill a few of them before being hit down towards the ground when a few of them charged into him.

Fortunately, the servants were unable to follow him down as after they had struck him, blue and white sparks seemed to come flying off of Keston's body and injuring them in the process. Thanks to this, Keston was able to quickly recover and recompose himself on the ground.

"Thank god for Amidias' Spark..." Keston muttered to himself as he glanced up at his health. 'The servants aren't much of a threat, it's just the Eye of Cthulhu I need to worry about. Though, the servants certainly are making my job a pain in the ass...'

Just looking up right now was tiring, he didn't know just how many there were exactly, but there were definitely over twenty of these servants flying around right now. Fortunately, they weren't exactly strong, they barely did anything to him.

With a sigh, Keston prepared himself to attack. "...Huh?"

Just as he was about to swing at one of the servants, a blazing projective seemed to strike it out of nowhere. Confused, Keston turned his head, only to see Amber standing on top of the mansion with her bow drawn, which obviously meant the projective came from her.

As for how she got up there, fuck knows.

"Don't worry about them, I'll take care of it!" Amber quickly shouted as she loaded another arrow as the tip quickly lit ablaze. Releasing the string of her bow, the arrow raced through the sky before hitting another one of the servants. "You focus on the big guy!"

"Alright, hide if it gets too dangerous!"

"Got it!"

Although he was still rather reluctant to have Amber helping him out right now, she could get swarmed at any point after all. However, considering just how many servants there were, and certainly there were more to come, he could only place his trust in her for now.

With both the Enchanted Sword and Blade of Grass in his hands, he spun them around a few times before locking his gaze onto the Eye of Cthulhu, whom also seemed to be completely locked onto him as well.

After a silent stare down, Keston dashed forwards with incredible speed.
