My shoulders sag. There's no way I can tell him without having to divulge the whole thing. The last time I spoke to my mother was two days ago. I don't know what my father has arranged with the facility that has my mother, but if he's locked up, how will I find my mom and how will I speak to her? I'm not due to talk to her again in a week. Who knows if I get the call?

Maybe I should just tell my brother? Ugh. This is hard. Why is this happening to me?

Closing my eyes, I take a deep breath and hear him say, "Everything will be all right, Malia. He can't hurt you anymore."

The words are at the tip of my tongue, ready to tell him.

I still have Keith. He'd surely be able to do something about this, right?

With that tiny hope, I smile wistfully at my brother. I can't lose him too. I'll find another way. I have to talk to Keith. "Yeah, I hope so."
