Then he leaned forward. "I'm driving you."

I blinked again. "What?"

"I'm driving you," he repeated. "That's the least I can do."

"Dom, it's fine. I'll just grab a bus…"

"No," he snapped. "I'm not letting you stand outside at night alone waiting for a bus when there's literally a tattooed psycho out there who might want you dead."

I paused, biting my lip. "Okay."

Dominic slowly leaned back. "One breath at a time, remember?"

I managed the smallest smile. "One breath at a time."

I glanced back down at Mr. Sun's text.

And for a split second, I wished more than anything that I could just… say no. That I could stay in this room a little longer, pretending my life wasn't on fire.

But reality was waiting.

And bills didn't pay themselves.

Dominic grabbed his keys, tossing them once in the air before catching them again.
