Chapter 2: Not Dead is Good
Matt awoke feeling groggy and disoriented. The last thing that he remembered was being bitten and locking himself in the back room of a game store. Checking his phone he notice that the time was already 10:00 P.M. That would mean that he had been unconscious for almost nine hours.
Looking around, he noticed that the room was oddly empty around him when he clearly remembered that there were props and merchandise around him when he entered the storage closet. Just at that moment, he noticed a feeling of energy coursing through him.
In his already apocalypse riddled mind, he could only think of one reason that he did not turn into a zombie and that was that he had mutated. The strange energy that he was feeling could only be his ability being active or ready for use. To test out his ability, he picked up the nearest object and instinctively channeled his power into it. When the energy transferred to the game case in his hand, it disintegrated into fine particles and was absorbed into him.
The energy gained was low, but it was a start on experimenting wit the energy. The only thing that Matt could thing of while using the energy was that he felt he could absorb materials and convert them into raw energy for his use or convert it into something else.
The first thing that he did with the energy was to alleviate the pain in his muscles from being bitten and running away. Using the energy, he could speed up his recovery and repair damaged parts of his bod. The second experiment that he ran was both exciting and painful as it was on his direct body. Being out of shape, Matt was what could be called well rounded in the middle. Using the energy to destroy the fat cells in his body, he was able to convert them to direct energy to reshape his body and strengthen it.
After an excruciating hour, Matt was more slender with a better bone and muscle density that would better suit the apocalypse. The only down side was that he had spent all of the energy he had as well all of the resources that he could convert to energy on himself without creating any weapons. The only way to get energy was to deconstruct materials be they organic or inorganic. It was time for him to develop a plan.
