Chapter 38: A Merciful Ruler

I watched as my attack hit its target. Dirt and dust went everywhere. To my surprise, the woman was unfazed by the blow. My jaw dropped a little, but I picked it up quickly. I had watched her battle with Log and did not want to end up like the dead ape. ( I can't afford to be careless.) I thought to myself as I waited for the girl's first move. The good news was that I had seen her fight, so I knew what to look out for in this battle. I also know that the girl was running low on Ki. Well, low for someone like her.

She still had slightly more Ki than me. Meaning she could only use her black blades one or two more times. I smiled as I thought of how good the human would taste when I finally killed her. It was fun in the beginning, but now it was getting annoying. The child had made a fool out of me one too many times. I couldn't even call it a child anymore. In just a few months, the baby turned into a woman. A fact I had trouble coming to terms with when I had first seen her. But after following her for a while, I figured it was the same person I was hunting all these months. Although her new appearance was a shock, all it meant was more meat for me to enjoy.

The smile on my face grew wider as I looked at the woman wave some of the dusty away in annoyance. She then looked at me with a mischievous grin. She had lost a few teeth in her fight with Log, making her smile all the more creepy. A dreadful feeling ran up my spine as I watched the girl walk towards me. For a second, I was stunned with fear, but I quickly shook it off and raced at the human. (It's just her bloodlust fight it!) I told myself as charged at my target.

I had felt the blood lust earlier and was scared out of my mind. I couldn't remember a time I felt fear like that before. I was only able to shake it off after realizing the source. The bloodlust came from the level three human walking calmly at me, a layer six beast—somehow, the girl had released a hell of a lot of killer intent. I didn't know how but I wasn't going to be fooled again.

Boom!

The second I reached her, a short black blade appeared in front of her. I had to side-step the attack as it crashed into the ground, covering my opponent in a dust cloud. I used my Ki sense to pinpoint her location in the dust cloud. I was about to strike her again when the dust blew away, revealing a black hand coming towards me. I retreated immediately upon seeing the attack. I had seen her crush the gorilla moments ago with the same move. ( As If Id let you get me so easy.) I mocked as I looked for my target.

"Hello, again, little kitty! I'm so glad you stop to play with me. I was beginning to think my fun was over for today." The girl said as she made her way to the monkey and the dog. I was both angry and confused at her words. The woman didn't even look at me as she held her hand out to the monkey. Who handed the girl a black sword. Then she just began to swing her blade over and over. After a minute of this, I decided to attack first again. I was mid-step when the female spoke again.

"Have I introduced myself? If not, then allow me to apologize. I am princess Gora Hydra of Esha and the soon-to-be ruler of this forest." The human said when she finished speaking. The woman known as Gora charged me.

"Foolish human!" I shouted as I launched a few wind blades at my attacker. The girl dodged my attacks with much greater ease than before. (A lowly layer three is this fast? Impossible.) I thought as Gora reached me. I planned to meet her sword with my claws. I was sorely disappointed as the blade bypassed my paws and headed towards my face.

Whoosh!

I heard the sword cut through the air as I just barely dodged the attack. I felt a sharp pain around my right ear before I felt the blood trickle down. However, I didn't have time to think about the wound as the woman continued her assault. I couldn't do anything but retreat. With my speed, I was still only slightly faster than her. Minutes went by with me, unable to even attack. Blood covered my body from all the minor cuts I had received. I had also opened many of the wounds I'd received from the alpha gorilla months earlier. ( I should have gotten more rest.) I cursed myself.

The only reason I was here right now was that I sensed Log's movement. I knew he to wasn't fully healed, meaning the only reason he came out of hiding was that he found the human and her monkeys. There was no way in hell I would let the dumb ape ruin my meal that was Gora. Imagine my surprise. I saw the stupid ape get beaten by the very prey I was hunting. I figured I could use Log as a distraction as I took out the human, and then I would've finished off the gorilla. Essentially I would Kill two birds with one stone. Instead, I was one of the birds, and Gora was the stone. I cursed my greed for landing me in this situation.

"Awe is the little kitty getting tired, but I still want to play." The woman said as she rushed me again. ( How dare a mere human make a mockery of me.) I thought as I sucked in a large amount of air.

RRRAWWWW!

I roared at Gora, creating a cone of strong wind to push her back. The woman soars backward before colliding with the trees. The impact cracks broke the first tree and cracked the second. I raced after as I spotted her slowly getting to her feet.

Bang!

My horns collided with Gora's black blade. I was amazed at how fast she recovered. Even more impressive was that I didn't crush her right away. The woman was pushing back. I saw black Ki creep up the girl's blade and knew what would happen once it finished. Before Gora could complete her attack, I swung my head up, launching the girl a few feet into the air.

RRRAWWW!

I roared towards the sky, aiming for my now air-borne target. The mighty wind current pushed the human further into the air above the massive trees. I followed up my roar with dozens of small wind blades. They sailed for their target, who was having difficulty evading in the air. A few of my blades reach their target, creating minor cuts on her arms and legs. To my surprise, the girl could block most of my attacks with her sword. Fortunately, this caused the woman to be propelled further into the sky. I smile as I watch her fall helplessly.

I rushed off in the direction she was falling. I planned to reach her landing spot the moment she did. (Huh.) As I got a few feet away from where I judged Gora would land, I thought. The sound of branches breaking had suddenly stopped.

WOOSH! Whoosh

I heard the sound of something moving fast through the wind. Everything in my body screamed for me to run to move. I listened and jumped backward. Moments later, a small black blade the size of a small sword cut through the spot I was just in, leaving a long cut into the earth.

(This move was much faster than the blades I'm used to.) I thought while I scanned the trees for any signs of the human. I couldn't spot her though there was only small giggling.

"Show yourself, human!" I screamed. I decided to use Ki senes. The minute I activated the skill, I saw numerous Ki signatures headed my way.

Swoosh Swoosh Swoosh

I quickly began to run as dozens of black blades descended on me. Trees fell in the wake of Gora's barrage. I decided to retreat from the area only to have more and more blades head my way. I had to not only evade the Ki blades but also falling trees.

"This reminds me of the night we met kitty! Do you remember that night!?" Gora said before raining down more Ki attacks. I had to run to avoid being cut. As I ran, I began to remember the night in question. The memory came to my head vividly. The night I first found the human and her dogs resting. I thought I had found some easy prey at first. The thought of tasting human flesh made my mouth water. I didn't feel bad about eating her, even if she was just a child then. Food was food. Even if it wasn't typical on the menu, humans were known to taste delicious. As a preditor, I view all weaker beings as my next meal. It just came naturally to us tigres.

"I should have killed you when I had the chance! I exclaimed as one of the blades cut my leg. The cut wasn't that deep, but it caused me to slow just a bit.

Woosh!

Time slowed down as my instincts kicked in at the last second. I dove to the left just in time to watch the Gora's sword pass by me, hitting the ground.

BOOM!

Vast chunks of dirt and earth exploded around me. I was struck by the shock wave which lifted me off my feet and sent me crashing hard into the ground. My ears buzzed, and my vision blurred as I struggled to my paws.

"Your mother should have taught you a thing or two about playing with your food." I heard Gora say behind me. I turned about to roar only to receive agonizing pain coming from my chest. I reacted on instinct and clawed at the source of the new pain. I felt my claws hit something, and I dug in deep, feeling the familiar sensation of my nails tearing flesh.

When my vision finally focused, I saw that I had indeed torn the flesh out of the pesky human. Unfortunately for me, the human had already pierced my chest with her sword. Although it wasn't deep enough to be fatal, it hurt like hell. I feared if I moved, I would push the blade in deeper. The human didn't look any better with her arm torn to the bone at some points. Even so, she didn't react. Her gaze stayed fixed on mine, and the grip on her blade didn't loosen an inch. (This thing can't be human!) I thought as I glared at the being in front of me.

Up closer, I notice the horn stick out of her head. It was my first time catching the horn. ( A demon?) I wondered. I had only heard about demons never seen one, so I couldn't say for sure. Although the way she fought was how my mother had described it. According to my mother, demons are trained to fight at a young age, and that all they know is battle. They come to love everything that deals with combat. Gora had sported the same creepy toothless smile the entire time we fought. As if she was enjoying herself.

"Looks like playtime is over, huh, kitty?" The woman said, sticking her tongue out at me. I started to move, but Gora twisted the blade just a bit, sending new waves of pain through my chest. It almost seemed unreal. Like I was dreaming. (Yeah, I'm dreaming. No way a layer three can kill me. Warr, a layer six mythical creature.) I thought in disbelief.

I closed my eyes and prepared for the end. My only saving grace was that no other beast was around to witness my death.

"A ruler should show some mercy, don't you think?" Gora asked. I opened one eye in confusion. (What is she going on about?) I thought as I examined the smiling woman.

"Well, only I can show mercy. Only if you agree to be my guardian beast?" The woman asked while twisting the sword slightly. With just a tiny movement, I was on the verge of howling in pain.

(Wait! Did she say, GUARDIAN!?) I thought to myself. I was sure that my ears were deceiving me.

Warr: This is the name of the layer six tigre/tiger that's been hunting Gora. `
