Chapter 27: 26

Dorne - Sunspear

Visenya Targaryen

----

Today is the day, I feel light and warm inside when I think about the people who will soon arrive. Prince Doran has pulled out all the stops and spent a ton of gold to get everything ready for a royal welcome. Only the most trusted of servants are working on food and drink, cant be too careful when we aren't even trying to hide what's happening. Spitting in Robert's face and hoping he marches down to fall in the sands to our spears.

The chances of it happening are low, the reports that were sent by Prince Doran of the Blackfyre movement in Essos has everyone tense. What better way to have them on edge than letting them know the black dragons are coming for them while we wait out the storm. I can't help but marvel at how the pieces are coming together, learning about the rebellion and what my name as Targaryen means I grew up worried.

Now the worry is gone and instead, I look forward to seeing my uncle on the throne and not having a huge target on my back. I will still have to be careful but I will be much freer than I am at the moment. I will also be able to see the north and my mom's side of the family. A knock on the door draws my attention and the door opens before I can say anything, my mom comes in.

"Nervous to meet them?" She sits next to me Infront of my mirror as I look back at my reflection.

"Not really, mainly excited." I grab a part of my hair and begin to braid it.

"Are you nervous?" She nods and grabs the other side of my hair and begins to match my braid. She is dressed in normal Dornish novel clothes but has a stark pin, after today she also won't be 'hiding' and it will be confirmed she is here as well as my identity.

"I am, I wonder if she blames me for what happened?" I frown and look at her in the mirror as we braid my hair.

"Why would she, do you think she is like that?" Referring to my grandmother Rhaella and how Rhaegar ran off and married my mom and started a war. If she wants to blame anyone she should blame my father but I doubt she does.

"I don't think she is like that, I am still nervous though." I roll my eyes, it's far too late to be nervous about meeting the mother of my father.

"It will be fine, we are all here with you mom." She finishes the braid and stands up.

"You are right, let's head out, they will be here soon." I take her hand and take one last look in the mirror and then turn to head out to meet them.

Rhaenys Targaryen

----

We are standing outside in the yard and waiting, I look at my sister and see she is dressed beautifully.

"You nervous?" I asked her and she sighs while looking into the air.

"How come everyone thinks I am nervous? I am more excited than nervous." She replies exhaustedly.

"Damn girl alright, I was just wondering. You don't have to snap at me little wolf." A nudge from my mother in the ribs has me reflexively straightening my back and holding my chin up. I don't see anything happing and glare in her direction as the corner of her lips twitch up.

A horn blowing lets us know that they are approaching and I straighten up for real this time while anticipating them walking into the gate. First comes in some of my uncle Doran's men who are holding up Targaryen banners, showing off to any spies watching. Next are two men with silver-gold hair that shines in the light, I reach for my single braid of silver-gold hair. I have a head full of dark hair like my mother except a single section is silver-gold like other Targaryens. I keep it braided on its own and keep it to the front to show my pride in my blood and name.

Next, a carriage comes in with Targaryen banners draped on it and the panels are closed so I can't see inside. I notice Visenya shifting in place and roll my eyes, not nervous my left foot. Arianne is standing toward the front so I can't see her face but I can tell her head is locked onto one of the horse riders.

The horses ride up past the carriage and next to a different rider who is wearing white armor and a white cloak. An old man with a fire in his eyes that should be Ser Barristan and he is in actual Kingsguard armor. His identity is even more obvious with the wide smiles spreading across our Kingsguards.

The first Targaryen male I look at should be Viserys, he wears a small golden hoop of a crown that holds his hair to his face. He also looks like he is about to die of dehydration as he puts on a good act of covering his discomfort.

The second should be Eragon and I wonder if that's what my dad looked like, he doesn't look 'melancholy' or 'Depressed' at all. He is very tall, taller than his brother, and also has more muscle mass that is noticeable from this distance. His hair is short to medium length and combed back, piercing purple eyes meet my own for a moment as he looks at us. He gives a small smile and looks back at his horse, he looks around and sees the others dismounted and his brows raise.

Does he not know how to get down?

He looks around again quickly before setting both hands at the front of the saddle and freeing his feet from the stirrups he lifts himself and swings his leg over before pushing off the horse. He lands and looks back at the horse which had to steady itself and is also looking at him, he nods at it and turns to walk toward the carriage while brushing himself off.

"What in the seven hells was that?" Visenya asks and I have to hold myself back from laughing, he didn't know how to get down. I guess he has never ridden a horse before and was giving his best, at least he didn't fall. I now look forward to taking him out for riding lessons.

"Alright, so I have to ride this thing even though I haven't ever even seen someone do so before?" I look at the horse and it looks at me with a challenging look in its deep eyes. A snort and it turns its head away with an aloof look to its mane flowing in the dry desert breeze.

"Watch Ser Barristan and do as he does, riding in the carriage will make you look weak." How does that logic work?

I watch Ser Barristan mount the horse in his old Kingsguard armor her has polished at least one hundred times on the ship. He does look like an intimidating figure in the shining white armor and the white cloak is spotless.

"I want to ride one." Rhaenyra comments and gets patted on the back as she is shuffled into the carriage with the other disapproving girls. They also wanted to ride but mom is scared their dress will get messed up their first time riding.

They are all wearing very beautiful dresses that compliment their figure, their hair is done nicely and they were scrubbed raw by the women that bathed them before we set off from the dock. I can still feel the nails of the old lady who was ' helping me wash ' and I shudder. Why do the people here get bathed by others I will never understand, mom took great enjoyment when I complained about it. I can clean myself on my own without help.

"Don't worry, you get to relax and stay pretty while I breathe in the desert sand." I try and cheer them up and they close the window blocking me from seeing them.

----

I somehow made it without falling and it's mostly due to the well-trained horse who is doing all the work. I pet him on the side of the neck and he snorts but keeps walking, what a fickle little guy.

The people on the streets we are walking through are pointing and even screaming and cheering, Viserys is eating it up and smiling wide. I can also see people scowling and giving dirty looks of disapproval. Not a very warm crowd these people, it doesn't ruin my mood though. I look forward to the massive building built going up a giant rock aiming into the sky.

That must be why it's called Sunspear, it is massive. Much bigger than the sea lords' palace or iron bank.

----

I look around at the people standing Infront of us, some are smiling and others aren't showing any outward reaction.

A woman with dark hair and tan skin with a single lock of silver-gold hair catches my eyes and I meet her own eyes and notice they are a light brown. She is Rhaenys Targaryen if I had to guess, she is standing next to the only person I know, Elia Martell.

To the side of Rhaenys is a girl with dark black hair that is braided and slightly curly where it is not. She has soft purple eyes, Visenya if I had to guess.

My nephew Aegon is easy to spot with his silver-gold hair and purple eyes standing beside a man in a chair with wheels. He isn't very tall and is paler than the others around him, he wears a silver Targaryen badge with a three-headed dragon.

I soon realize I am the only one still on horseback and have to get off smoothly, I lift my weight and sling my leg around the horse before throwing myself off. I land easily and look back at the horse who is giving me a confused look from shoving him. I give him an apologetic nod and walk to the carriage to help the girls get out.

The door opens and I hold out my hand from the side and my mom grabs it and uses it to support herself as she walks down. She stands to the side and the others repeat the process one by one, once everyone is out I shut the door and stand to the side of my mom.

She walks up and stands with Viserys and looks at the man next to Aegon.

The crowd Infront of us gives a quick bow to Viserys who nods and then we all look at the man who mom is looking at.

"Welcome to Sunspear your Grace, I would stand and bow but as you see." He motions to his legs and Viserys smiles.

"It's fine Prince Doran, thank you for the warm welcome." Doran smiles back and waves toward the door and a servant steps up behind him.

"Let's head inside and get some food and drink, you must be hungry from your travels and we have a feast prepared." We all follow after him and Viserys speed walks up to his side and starts talking quietly with him.

----

"You like lions?" A voice from beside me asks and I turn to see who I believe to be Rhaenys walking beside me while eyeing Brightroar.

They wanted to take my sword when I came in but I would rather wait outside than part from my sword. After A man who was talking with Ser Barristan said it's ok and he will watch me I was let in, I think he is Ser Arthur Dayne and the pale sword of his should be Dawn.

"I don't care for lions or not, the sword came like this." I answer and she closes the distance a bit more after I responded.

"You don't like lions but you bought a lion sword?" She meets my eyes no longer looking at the sword, her hands are behind her back and joined together. She has her head tilted slightly and gives a brilliant smile as she waits for me to reply.

"Well, I didn't buy it since it was a gift. Probably the best gift I have ever been given other than my life." Her smile widens and a curious look forms on her face as her brows come together.

"It must have come from someone you care about if you value it so much, do you love them?" She asks with a hint of mischief, a cough from behind draws our attention back and I see Elia frowning at the girl.

"It's not that, it came from a man and I prefer women. Take a peek and see why I value it so much." I slide it out a bit and the noise draws attention and one of the men who was standing with Ser Arthur Dayne pulls his sword out a bit as well.

"Wow! It's Valyrian steel?" She asks in wonder as we come to a stop as she grabs my shoulder.

"Yea, you have probably heard its name before as well." She tilts her head again and looks confused before she seems to put it together.

"Brightroar?" I nod and hear a few of the others who were listing gasp. I sheath the blade and am about to keep moving since I can practically feel Viserys eyes stabbing me. "Can I try it out later?"

"You want to try out my sword?" I ask with some hesitation as I don't want to let others borrow it, even if its for a short moment. Though she must have heard what I said differently as he eyes widen a bit and a shy smile spreads across her face and she tightens her grip on my shoulder.

"I would love to try out your sword Uncle Eragon, if you are not too worn out after eating we could go try it out." I hear Danny groan on my other side and I seem to have messed up badly as I feel another pair of eyes join in stabbing me, Mothers.
