Chapter 106: The Short Hypothesis Thus Far
She first asked us if we remember the amount and all of the hypothesized groups based on the three symbols near the gravestones that we had found back when we were in the first cave, to which I confirmed it and said that aside from the astronomers, there were also symbols for the community managers and farmers or construction workers.
She continued that apparently, the current room we were in supposedly functioned as some sort of one of the important meeting places, if not the most, for the astronomers. They would first have the sky spectated day and night continuously, until they could come into some sort of a conclusion before they would then call for the rest of the other groups to gather and shared the information with them. Since it would definitely be of a non-stop task, she was very sure that a large number of people might possibly have to work as an astronomer back then.
Unlike before, I had something on my mind that bothered me about her hypothesis. It was if the number of the population of the same community would actually be that large, since there was a large distance between the megalithic room and the first cave and that travelling on such a distance would prove to be very exhausting. I asked her about it right away after she had finished explaining, but then she stated another possibility for that matter.
She said that while the gravestones in the first cave did have their respective symbols on it, it still did not tell us if the gravestones belonged to the leaders, or founders of the groups, or rather just the regular members. However, she also stated while it was still unclear, she was more confident in saying that the gravestones belonged to the regular members.
"But, if so…" I said to her, "Should not we have seen at least some sort of a trace of their homes back when we have just gone out from the cave?"
"About that…" she responded quickly, "Their houses might in fact have sunken deep under the river floor."
She explained that since none of us knew for sure if the river had always been there since the time when the community had been around, then there was also a possibility that their houses had been accidentally sunken under the river when the dam was built. The possibility was also rather high, because most prehistoric graveyards would not be made too far from the center of the community center unless they were meant for great leaders and/or founders.
Right after that, she expressed her other curiosity, which was on how accurate they could cut large megalithic stones into cube-like bricks which were what the room and the hallway were entirely comprised of. Even if the community center was as early as Bronze Age, the tools would not have been hard enough to be able to cut megalithic stones on that level of accuracy.
"These cube bricks have been cut by a nearly laser level of accuracy…" she said.
Both Billy and I could only keep ourselves silenced as she then muttered again those similar words for a few times, before she finally stopped. Since I believed that there was nothing else that we could do, I suggested her to forward what we had found inside the room and about the hallway as well to the National Board of Archeologists, to which she completely agreed.
I initially wanted to contact Nest through my watch again, but to my surprise, my watch did not seem to be able to transmit and maybe even to receive messages while we were inside the room. That was the first time the gadget had not been able to work properly, and all the more confusing for me since it had worked perfectly when I had tried to contact Nest both during in the first and second caves.
"Can it be because we are currently inside a perfectly sealed room?" Billy said. "Because it does not look like there is any gap between each bricks on the wall either."
"So we must go back to where we came from earlier in order for me to be able to contact again, huh…" I said as I sighed. "Great…"
Not only did the bricks were very accurately made, but it had also left no gap at all between each other when they were stacked together that my watch would not be able to get a signal for communication. It was at that moment when I also began to wonder how those people from the past made those bricks.
Nevertheless, I somehow had the feeling that we would find more clues on similar structures once we had gotten out from the jungle. Jessica also muttered about the very same thing shortly after, even stating that we might find another deeper inside the jungle.
We then went all the way back to the same spot where we had come from earlier, with me leading in the front and had our pace slower and more silent the closer we get to the collapsed ceiling. I had not noticed before that the path right before the collapsed ceiling to be completely blocked seemingly by a landfall, which was possibly due to countless earthquakes that had happened in the past.
Billy was the first one to get out of the hallway by climbing up the wall and up to the ground outside, and there was absolutely no need for him to get any sort of assistance from me because the distance from the ground to the ceiling was no more than six feet. Then, Jessica followed by first raising her hand up and getting pulled by Billy from above. I was the first one to climb out of the hallway before the three of us had then returned outside.
The sky above us had become pretty dark again, and it was already 05.17 p.m. by the time I looked at my watch. Also, it was not raining anymore by then and instead, the late afternoon sun seemed to greet us back when I looked up. Since it was getting late, I suggested to contact the National Board of Archeologists later on to which Jessica agreed.
"Well, eyes on and ears up everyone…" I said, as we were back on our feet to go deeper into the jungle again…
