Chapter 2: The Avenger
Chapter 2
I kept on falling.
First, it's dark. Like space in the night sky, without stars. Then, there was a planet. I've been falling to a freaking planet!
Zooming in, blurring everything else. Darkness, then the planet, then force field. The barrier I saw, I'm going to fall in it. At this point, I'm terrified.
That horse saved me for nothing. I can't do anything about it. I can't stop falling. Then BAAAMMM!
I woke up in the forest. At least my clothes didn't get destroyed. I got a black hoodie and a grey shirt, for the top. Then, dark blue denim pants and black basketball shoes. On my right pant's pocket is the coin. The black coin that turns to spear. A black shining spear.
I get up. Checking if I have injuries, I got none. Thank goodness I didn't get injured from that fall. Anyway, I checked my surroundings too. There are lots of tall trees and some shrubs. There's some light peaking through the trees. Awesome! I can still travel with this sunlight.
"I should go and find a village, it might get creepy at night," I said out loud. I get the coin and tossed it. Once it touches my palm, it turns to a spear Better be ready than be sorry. At least I can defend myself with this.
So, where should I go? I don't know.
I went to my right. I kept on walking. I hope there is a village nearby, the first thing I know about isekai is to find an adventurer's guild. Well, I will look for that first.
I walked and walked. I don't make any sounds except my feet touching some dried leaves or woods.
I noticed that there are some birds, a few insects. And occasionally, I see some snakes. They're just small and far away so I kept walking straight while holding the spear. I use it to move some shrubs to check if there's some animals or insects in front of me.
After a few hours of walking, I heard a river. A flowing river. About time to drink water. I'm quite thirsty. I went to the direction of the sound. After a few minutes I found it.
Cool! The water looks clean. And it is cold too. Nice. I hoped a brought a water bottle so I can have a drink while walking.
I looked around. It's so cool being in this area. I only see this in a picture. There are some plants on the side of the riverbanks. On the edge of the clearing are some flowery shrubs.
Then, boom! There was a loud thud on my left while I am checking the area. I looked and the thing I saw scared the shit out of me. I stood frozen. Not moving an inch because there is a weird looking creature. I said creature because I don't know what it is.
It has 3 big horns on its big head. One on each side where the eyebrow should be. The 3rd horn is in the back of its head. It has a small neck attached to a big green body. It is as big as a bus. There are lots of spike on its back. And there are four small wings too. I don't think It can fly with that, because the ratio of the wings and body doesn't match. It has 2 powerful hind legs though. Big enough to support it's big body. The tail is quite big too, and the end of its tail is scary because of the blade. It looks sharp at the end of its tail. It stands like a dinosaur, but don't think it is a dinosaur because it has feathers in its legs.
So far, it didn't notice me. It didn't last long though. When I got to my senses, and thought what I should do. The best I could think of is to run. Run for my life!
I walked back. You know the most annoying thing? When you try to be silent. There are some freaking dried wood where your feet would land on your step. It's some horror thriller cliché!
It heard me. Slowly, it turns its head towards me. Then, I run at full speed in the other direction. Haha good bye! I run as fast as my legs can.
For a chubby guy like me. I don't think I run that fast. I looked back to that creature. It's still there. Maybe thinking why the hell I'm running. Or what the hell I am. I really don't know what is it thinking. I don't want to ask.
Then, my heart jump! Because that creature jump forward to my direction. In just one leap, it closed the gap to me. I'm still running but if it jump again, at this rate. It'll catch me.
"Fuck this. If I'm going to die, I'm going to die." I stopped running. I face it. I held my spear tighter. I'm not Leonidas. I'm no good with spear. I didn't even train for this. But one thing I remember that sleipnir said. This spear won't miss.
I take aim. Imagining how the fallen king did it in the movie. I relax my myself. Looking at the creature. Determined to fight this monster to the death. "take it's heart."
I release it like an untrained person who just started playing javelin throw. Then, that monster jump again. Lunging to my direction. I don't think my spear will hit it. But it did. As if my spear knows that it is going to jump. The monster lands in front of me. It tries to bite my head off. It's still alive! Even though the spear hit him in the chest.
I dodged it. Rolling in front under the monster! "Rwarrrghhh" it shouts. I think I annoyed it. Or maybe it is frustrated.
Guess what. I took the spear on its chest. Blood drops from the wound, It smells bad. I heard another roar. Stumping randomly because he can't see me. I thrust my spear upward. Multiple times while this monster is struggling to move. It almost walked me over. Thank goodness it didn't.
A few moments later. It fall to the ground. I moved aside just in time. It's over. It's dead.
"Sorry" I said to it. Breathing heavily of exhaustion. "now I smell bad." There is blood everywhere.
I hope it's smell won't last long. I went to the river to wash everything. My clothes, underwear, the spear and specially myself. I wash it in the flowing river beside us.
There are some fishes but they didn't bother me. Although at first I got scared because I thought they are piranhas, but they're not. So, I wash in my hearts content.
After washing, I dried my clothes on the rock nearby. Then I speared some fish. I don't want to eat that monster. I don't even know how to cut that. I love meat but I think the better choice here is fish.
The only thing I needed to do is start a fire. How do you do it?
I don't know. That's a problem. Because fire is very important. It keeps away the animals, cooks food and it keeps you warm. I don't know if I can start it with rocks like I see in videos and movies. I tried though.
It took my whole day starting a fire. I tried my best to make the rocks spark. But I can't. I guess I'm going to eat this fish raw. Let's eat sushi without rice. Haha
It's almost sunset and I only eat one of the four fish I get. I like sushi, but this fish without rice and sauce is not good. After I ate, I took my clothes. They're not that dry that much but it is ok. I drink water for a last time and move downstream the river.
It is already night. I found a spot near a tree where I can take a rest. This is my first night in this world. I almost died because of that monster. But I enjoyed it a lot. Not the killing part, but the thrilling excitement for an adventure.
I looked up in the clear sky while lying in my bed made of leaves, there are lots of stars. It looks good. I tried to find the 3 kings in it. But I can't find it. I guess this is a different constellation.
At least there is moon to illuminate my surroundings. The moon is bluish in this world. It looks great. Blue is my favorite color.
I woke up refreshed the next morning. But I'm hungry. I only eat one fish for a whole day yesterday.
I look for fish again. Even though I'm disgusted of eating fish raw. I ate five just to satisfy my hunger. And I drink a lot of water with it.
I'm good to go.
I walked down stream. I hope I find some village. At least food there might be good.
Then I saw smoke on the other side of the river. I crossed the river, it is not that deep. It only reach my chest so I can still walk on it. I don't know how to swim even if I stayed in the beach side in 4 years.
I followed the smoke. When I was near, I heard voices. The good thing is I can understand it. I hide to a tree. I saw a man emerge from a cage. There is a someone inside a cage not moving.
"Are you done with her?" said a man. It seems like he's waiting for the other man. He has long red hair and a big fat belly. He is stout and looks like a tough Viking. He also has a red beard and a few scar in the face.
"Yeah, I am." Said the other. This man is also stout but much smaller than the other man. I think both of them are not taller than me. He has reddish hair too. But the other man has a brighter hair.
"Then let's go and sell this slave, Mardo." Said the one with brighter hair.
"Where's Fermi, Dorm? Said Mardo.
"He's looking for some food." Dorm said.
There's 3 of them. What the hell, where is the 3rd one? I looked around.
"I found something." Shouts the man behind me. He is possibly Fermi. "or should I say, someone."
I turn around. And saw Fermi, he has dark orange hair. It is short and messy. He smiles to me and said. "I found another slave."
Then the other 2 went to our direction and drag me to their cage. The cage has wooden wheels in it attached to some weird looking bird. It is like a big chicken with two heads. It has brown feathers and small wings. And quite bigger than an ostrich.
"Slow down." I shout while fermi is still dragging me. "I'm just a traveler."
Then he punch me in the stomach. "urgh
"This is a lucky day for us men!" said Dorm
"This one looks good. It might sell for a few gold coins" said Fermi
They notice the spear I'm holding. And I'm sure their eyes light up when they see it.
"Its mine now!" said Mardo. Taking my spear from my hand. He inspect it.
"Hey, I'm the one who finds this man. I should have it." Fermi protested. Then he try to get it to Mardo's hand. But Mardo is fast enough and moved away.
They push me inside the cage. Then they get ready to go. They're still arguing who gets the spear. But looking at them. Mardo is not giving it up.
The cage started to move now. The driver is Dorm and both Fermi and Mardo are still arguing beside the cage while riding their own birds.
I'm quiet now and thinking how to release myself in this cage. Then something moved beside me. I guess it is the girl they were talking about. There's a blanket on top of her, so I didn't see her when I enter.
I moved the blanket to look at her. "Hi, oh sorry." I apologize because she didn't have any clothes with her. I covered her body with the blanket.
But she just look to me. As if looking empty, without a life. I think she's already dead inside. She has short white hair, it is kind of messy and dirty. Her skin is light but with lots of scars and wounds. There's still blood in her lips. Some are fresh and others are dried up.
"Kill me." She mumbled. "End my suffering now."
"Wait. I'm sorry." That's the 1st thing I said. I literally don't know what to say. I know she faced lots of hardship. She might be a victim of torture and rape. But I don't think ending her life is the answer.
I held her hand with my left hand. "I can't do that. I don't know exactly what you feel. But I don't think death is the..." as I said this. My hand grew warmer and become color gold. It is not shining or glowing. My skin just turn to gold. I look at other part of my body, specifically on my other hand. It didn't change color.
I notice that her skin changes too. Her wounds and scratches is healing. Even the scars are gone now.
Both of us were stunned. I didn't know I could do that. Is this the gift Sleipnir is talking about?
A gift to heal others is great in this world. The girl get up and hugged me. "Thank you." She said with teary eyes. If you look closely, I think she's cute.
Still stunned. Because a naked girl hugs me and because of the healing powers I got, I smile and said. "You're welcome." I then notice her ears. It looks like it's been cut. Because both of her ears is flat. Unlike us that have rounded ears on top.
"I'm John. What's your name?" I asked.
"I'm…. I'm Ganda." She hesitates to tell me.
"How long you've been here? What happen?" I asked loudly because the guard answered me.
"Hey, no talking!" shouts Dorm without even looking.
Ganda drag me under her blanket. Both of us hides there. And she said. "We should kill them. Can you fight?"
I can't focus. How can you focus when you're face to face with a naked girl? If I'm in an anime, my nose will probably bleed.
"Yeah I can." I think I can kill one instantly because of my spear. I'm so sure it won't miss.
"Then, once we get in the village, we should fight back." She suggest.
After a while, I heard Fermi and Mardo shouts at each other.
"I didn't took it!" Said Fermi.
"Then where's the spear?! Maybe you toss it because you're jealous!" accused Mardo.
I looked out in the blanket. They both have sword in both of their hands.
"You toss it. I'm sure of it!"
"I didn't!"
"Where's my spear?!" I shout back.
"Shut up puny slave!" Then Mardo stab me between the rails. I almost got hit.
"Once I got out of here, you're the first to die." I cursed.
I should've fought back before. When I'm not in the cage. While I still have the spear. Now it is gone. I instinctively touch my right pocket. I felt there was something in it. I took it out, and saw the best thing in the word. My black coin. Now they're fucked.
I toss it up. Once it touches my palm. It turns to the most beautiful spear. There is no light, no effects or anything while it transform. Just pure black metal.
The men saw what I did. And was stunned when they saw the spear. Before they can react. I stab Mardo in the chest. And said. "Told you."
Ganda saw what I did and grab Dorm from behind. In a mere seconds, dorm is lying on the ground with a broken neck.
"Run!" I shouts at Fermi. I hope he got scared of what I did. And with luck, he did. He grab the reign of his ride and speed away.
"Why did you let him leave?! Are you nuts? We should have killed him."
" Don't worry. I got this." I tried to stab the lock of the cage. It got destroyed and I open the door. I can't still see him. He's quite far now.
"Hit him will you?" I send my spear flying. Then, I saw it hit Fermi. I think Ganda saw it too because when I look at her. She smiles and said. "Not bad"
I smile back. Then I felt the coin in my pocket. It has a great enchantment. It goes back in my pocket in coin form.
"What's the name of your spear?" Ganda asked me while she start looking for their bags.
"I don't know. I have no idea."
"Then you should give it a name. A great weapon should always have a name."
I don't know what should I name it. This spear saves me a couple of times already. It saves me on that monsters, and in this slave traders. It also help me get some fish. I'm damn I can save a lot of people with this. When I think about it. I think, I have a name. I'm going to call it.
