Chapter 66: Dragon

I stare at Draco, processing his words as he smirks at me.

"...Wot?"

His smirk widens. "Hagrid has a dragon and your brother, Hermione, and Weasley know about it!"

I frown. Hermione hasn't mentioned anything about there being a dragon nearby. And she knows how much I would want to see one. I still spend hours at a time waiting by the windows in the common room waiting to catch a glimpse of the giant squid. But it never swims by whenever I'm there! I'd swear it's messing with me given how most of the others have seen it.

Seeing my displeased expression, he beams at me. "If we can get one of the professors to go down to that oaf's hut, preferably with Weasley there, it's likely that he'd be expelled!"

I raise an eyebrow. "And what about Hagrid?"

He shrugs. "Who cares?"

Point.

Still though, that seems like a waste… "If we did that, what would happen to the dragon?"

"They'd probably send it off to some sanctuary or something. Why?" He gives me a confused look.

I smirk back, enjoying the way he shivers in response. "How about we steal it instead?"

`~`

Obviously it isn't that easy to convince him, but a few days later, after showing him how I could shrink and grow Arianna, he eventually concedes.

"So all those times Blaise, Pansy, and Millicent have said they've been attacked by a tiger, that was your cat?"

He looks at me incredulously while I chuckle, embarrassedly scratching my cheek. "Yep. But apparently she's been under the spell so long that it's become a part of her or something. She can shrink or grow on her own now if she wants!"

I look at the chair she's claimed for herself, sleeping after showing Draco her full size. "If she ever did anything besides sleep that is."

"I also eat and prowl around the halls with Ms. Norris." She counters causing me to roll my eyes, much to Draco's confusion. Which I ignore.

"The real problem is trying to train it so nobody finds out about it." I mutter.

I don't think I can talk to dragons like I can talk to cats, or Harry can talk to snakes. More to the point, it's barely been born. So it probably wouldn't be able to talk anyways.

I sigh before looking at Draco. "Realistically, neither of us know how to take care of a baby dragon. Even if it is miniature. So, should we head out to the library and check out some books?"

"No need!" A voice pipes up, causing the two of us to jump. We turn to where it came from, and from behind one of the couches rises Tracey!

With a wide grin, she puts her hands in front of her mouth and makes trumpet noises. "Doo-doo-doo-dooo! Dragon expert acquired!"

We exchange glances before giving her a deadpan stare. "You?" I ask. "You're a 'dragon expert'?" The doubt is clear in my voice, to which she pouts.

"Come on, is it really that unbelievable!? Dragons are awesome, so of course I'd look up all kinds of information on them!"

I just stare at her with narrowed eyes. Sure, it sounds totally believable given her personality. On the other hand, isn't it just a bit too convenient that I decide to steal a dragon, and someone who can take care of it just randomly pops up?

(AN: Innocent whistling.)

My eyes flicker around. "Does anyone else hear whistling?" I get head shakes in reply, but I know it's not nothing. Too many similar things have happened for me to simply dismiss the event. But given how rare it's happened, and how short they are, I don't think I'll ever be able to find out what the deal is with them.

Not unless I end up traveling to another dimension or something. But I haven't seen Meowtzer ever since he went off to fight in that war. Hope he's doing ok and slaughtering his enemies.

`~`

Meowtzer stands at a window overlooking a planet. It used to be a planet full of life. But now the only thing left are the plants.

"We've achieved victory here, today. But at what cost?" He mutters to his friend standing beside him.

"Well," They say, pulling out a tablet. "The gas bill is estimated to be about five-thousand nya. And the price for seasonings should be around one-thousand. That's not counting the water bill for cleaning all the dishes, nor the bone disposal bill."

A tear comes to Meowtzer's eye listening to the report, and he clenches a paw in front of himself. "Why… Why did the tasty fish people have to start this war?"

His friend gives him a deadpan look. "You ate their queen. And you carry her bones around as your weapon."

Meowtzer glances down at his fish-bone blade. As he recalls, the fish queen tasted better than any fish he'd ever tasted before. "Oh, right."

`~`

After a week of working out the details, it's decided that Draco will spy Harry, Weasley, and Hermione to figure out a good time to snatch the dragon. It's disappointing that I have to include Hermione in the spying, but she still hasn't mentioned the dragon to me!

While he does that, Tracey and I are trying to figure out where we're going to keep it. We can't just put it in an empty classroom, there's no telling when a professor or Filch will decide to use it. And we certainly can't put it in the dorms. Sure, Pansy's face would be priceless, but then we'd have to give up the dragon!

And I guess that someone could get hurt, too.

`~`

It takes another week, but Tracey and I have a place for the dragon to stay after we get it. In this time Draco has been doing an admirable job in spying on the trio. Honestly it isn't that difficult for him given how he usually antagonizes Harry and Weasley.

The question is: how are we going to make the trunk space livable and comfortable for the dragon?

Tracey suggested using my shrinking spell on part of the forbidden forest, but… it doesn't work very well on things that aren't animals for some reason. And by that I mean they kind of compress into a ball made up of whatever I shrunk. So a tree and dirt would end up as a tree ball. And when I grow it back, it stays as a ball.

I can only guess that it's because I'd originally meant for the spell to only shrink Arianna, so that's why it's like that.

But figuring out what to do about that takes another week, in which we basically just go and ask Professor Sprout for a bunch of small but mature plants that are fireproof.

"It really shouldn't have been that easy." I say to Tracey as I lean into her trunk and balance myself on the edge so I don't fall in.

"It really shouldn't have." She agrees, ready to grab a hold of my leg if I lose my balance.

After making sure it's firmly in the dirt piled into the trunk to simulate the ground, I carefully pull myself out. After shooting each other satisfied looks, we head out to the common room to meet up with Draco.

It's time to make a plan.
