Chapter 14: This is Halloween Final

We continued trick-or-treating for another two hours before deciding to head back to the Dursleys. Clarity tries to say that she's feeling better, but Harry and I decide that it would be better to be safe than sorry.

As we head back we compare candy. For the most part we all got the same things, the benefits of going together. But we each have something that surprises the other. Harry has a king sized chocolate bar, Clarity has a dozen lollipops bunched into a bouquet. And me? I have the most interesting thing of all.

Harry and Clarity give me weary looks as I try to stuff a giant jawbreaker in my mouth. "Be careful you don't hurt yourself," cautions Clarity.

"I'll bet my king size that you can fit it," challenges Harry.

"Don't encourage her, they're called 'jawbreakers' for a reason.

"Yeah, but this is my twin we're talking about."

They continue on like that for another few moments, and Clarity somehow ends up wagering her lollipop bouquet just before I manage to pop the candy in question behind my teeth.

"Hmhm. Mhhm hmhm." I hum at them, showing off my skills.

Harry cheers while Clarity groans. She hands her prize over without complaint. Soon enough we reach the Dursleys. But there's something odd. There's a strange sound coming from inside. A sound that I've heard other people make, but never has it come from this house.

It sounds like singing. As the three of us enter, we see a surreal sight. Petunia Dursley, a stickler for things being neat and tidy, is standing on the living room table.

Dancing.

Thankfully she's still clothed, but it seems like she was on her way to changing that, judging by how loose her dress is hanging off of her. Even as we watch, she takes another swig from the glass cup in her hand.

"This party is just getting started!" She yells before falling off and landing on the couch. She giggles for a bit while the three of us just stare. Soon though, her giggles stop and the sound of snoring can be heard.

We exchange glances with each other, all of us wondering the same thing.

(What the heck is going on here?)

We hear some shouting from the kitchen, so we make our way towards it. There, we see Vernon, red-faced, playing cards with Clarity's dad, who isn't red-faced. He does seem pretty amused though.

"Uh, dad? What's going on here? Why do the Dursleys seem to be... drunk?" Clarity isn't the only one confused. The only times I've seen Vernon drink is when he has family over. And he never lets Petunia drink. He always wants her sober so that she can stop him from doing something stupid.

I take in Vernons full appearance. Red face, his tie wrapped around his forehead, jacket tossed on the back of the chair. I can see that he's sweated through his white shirt in places too. Gross.

Alternatively, Clarity's dad looks the same as when he got here. Except with a self-satisfied smirk on his face. "Hello there Clarity, Potter twins. Well, after the three of you left, Mr. Dursley invited me to sit down and eat while we discussed business. Apparently, he's a man who likes a stiff drink with dinner. Though it does confuse me as to why he didn't offer me a drink as well."

He shrugs. "Nevertheless, we discussed business for a while, mainly things about managing banks and other such details you wouldn't be interested in." He waves his hand as if to shoo those details away. "Anyways, soon enough he and his wife got drunk. His wife wished to dance, and he wanted to challenge me to a friendly game of cards." He smirks.

"Of course, a game of cards isn't REALLY a game of cards if there are no stakes. So, I bet some small amounts of cash, while he bet, well, fun. For these two." He points at Harry and me, and we blink. You can practically see the question mark floating above our heads.

Mr. Insania shrugs. "He said that each time he loses, that he'll allow the two of you one day out of the house to accompany Clarity for whichever activity the three of you wish to do. An odd thing to bet, but I didn't see any harm in letting him do it." His smirk grows. "I have won easily seventy games. So the three of you will be able to 'hang out', as they say quite a bit."

Harry and I beam at each other, while Clarity shoots a smile in our direction. She knows how little freedom we have living with the Dursleys, so she's happy for us. Vernon, meanwhile seems to have fallen asleep with his face resting on the table.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Nartleb Nartleb

Yo, apologies. Fell asleep while writing this last night, so here it is now. Anyway, about why they're drunk. Remember that little rhyme back at the start? Well, Siris is the Mesopootamian goddess of beer. So boom! Anything they drunk this night was turned alcoholic.
