Chapter 40: First dueling club meet -40
*Narrator pov*
The beautiful night sky was filled with sparkling stars that seemed to emit an otherworldly light. Students were finishing up their meals, you could almost feel the electric feeling of excitement in the air.
The students spoke fervently about the dueling club meeting that was being held after dinner was finished. The students found it strange that the first meeting was being held at night but paid it no mind.
The interesting thing about the dueling club was anyone could attend to watch but only second years and up were allowed to actually duel.
It was deemed that the first years didn't know enough about magic to effectively learn what they needed to.
Morpheus was in his room seemingly whittling a bone when he saw the time and left.
He was interested in the dueling club, it being his suggestion we wanted to see how the professors taught.
Of course, Morpheus would ask to step in and teach every once and a while like Professor Flitwick is.
As he rounded the corner to enter the great hall a small smile lit upon the pale professor's face.
He arrived just in time to see the professors remove the tables and the fake sky disappear.
The students were in awe as the stone moved letting the real sky appear above the great hall. The moon's gentle ethereal glow lit the hall nicely.
"I didn't know the great hall could do that," Professor Yowie said in awe
"Yes, I rarely do it out of convenience but this seemed like a fitting time to reveal the ability," Albus replied in a gentle tone
"Tonight seems fitting for this auspicious day doesn't it my friend?" I smiled while looking at the stars
"The stars are bursting with excitement, just like my heart," Abara laughed lightly at his own joke
Morpheus chuckled, "Show them what a true master of the stars is,"
The professors not instructing the club meeting stayed on the elevated teacher's platform.
Professor Abara and Yowie stepped down onto the transfigured strip that was the dueling arena for today.
The students huddled at the sides with excitement plastered on their faces. The loud discussions among the students made it impossible to hear the two professors.
Professor Yowie raised his wand to his throat and said, "Quite down students we will begin the first official dueling club meeting now,"
Slowly the discussions began to die down, the great hall was silent as everyone awaited for the defense against the dark arts professor to continue.
"Professor Abara and I have decided to put on a little show for everyone, pay attention as we will follow dueling etiquette to the letter," seeing Professor Yowie remove the wand from his throat the students began talking excitedly in hush whispers
"First bow," the two professors bowed
Then they turned and walked seven paces from each other, right as both reached the seventh step a heavy ambiance engulfed the dueling floor.
Professor Yowie spun around and yelled, "Expelliarmus, Stupefy!" in quick succession both spells shot from his wand like missiles
Professor Abara calmly flicked his wand upwards, "lunae lumen clypeus!" (moonlight shield) he said deeply
The ethereal moonlight that poured into the great hall seemed to condense in front of the astrology professor shielding him from the attack.
The professor quickly followed with the spell "lune ultionem!" (moonlights revenge)
The shield fired forward twisting into the shape of a crescent moon.
Professor Yowie spun to the right while transfiguring the ground into a stone wall.
*SHICKK* the moonlight cut through the stone like butter
Professor Yowie stepped out from his crouched position, "That was dangerous my friend," he said with some humor
Professor Abara laughed, "If that did you in you wouldn't be a top Auror,"
Professor Yowie laughed while thrusting his wand forward causing the transfigured wall behind him to transform into stone Spears.
"Careful my friend," The ex Auror warned
*SHOOM!* the spears shot forward like bullets
Professor Abara suddenly rushed forward while muttering a spell, his body began to glow as if he was bathed by the stars.
The professor whipped his wand around and then jumped toward the spikes, as the spikes neared him the professor seemed to move his wand slightly to the left then a sharp right.
The stone Spears that were about to impale him veered to the right flying into the sky, the professor then landed and did a spin on the ground while thrusting forward with his wand. The previous spikes changed direction and shot toward the defense professor.
Professor Yowie laughed while flicking his wand causing the spears to revert back to stone right above Professor Abara's head.
Professor Abara cursed in his head while throwing himself backward using the falling stones as a shield from stray spells.
What he didn't expect was Professor Yowie to rush forward while using the levitation spell silently to create a perfect hole for him to slip through.
A beam then shot toward the downed Professor Abara, recognizing it as the stupefy spell the professor silently used a shield charm.
Getting back to his feet while defending an onslaught of stupefy's and Expelliarmus's the astrology professor was clearly on the losing end.
"Flashy doesn't always mean stronger, my friend," Yowie said while he continued to bombard Professor Abara
Professor Abara clinched his teeth in frustration he knew he couldn't keep defending.
Blocking another Stupefy professor Abara pointed his wand at his opponent and shouted, "LUMOS!" his loud voice was followed by a blinding white light
While both professors and the audience were blinded Morpheus was not, he could clearly see Professor Abara running blindly to the left to get into a better position.
Once the flashbang effect was over both professors looked for their opponent. they immediately began to cast a barrage of spells at each other.
It was like a beautiful dance under the moonlight, they dodged, shielded, and fired spells all at the same time.
The students couldn't help but look in awe at the performance.
Professor Abara suddenly began to form a star pattern with his wand, he narrowly dodged a spell and then intoned, "Stella descensus," (stars descent)
His wand tip lit with a bright white light then the light shot out *FWOOM* the speed was unlike anything Yowie had seen.
He tried to dodge but the light suddenly curved, "Protego!" Professor Yowie said quickly
The white light seemed to curve around the shield, *BAM!* the White Light connected with Professor Yowie's side causing him to drop onto the ground
Professor Abara seeing his opportunity intoned, "Expelliarmus!" the spell cleanly hit the defense professor causing his wand to fly into Abara's hand
Professor Yowie picked himself up off the ground with a grunt, "You won," the hall was silent no one expected this outcome
Professor Abara laughed kindly, "Only because of the environment, that last spell is only usable when a certain star shines bright enough,"
Professor Yowie laughed as well, "You must teach me that spell that allowed you to jump so high,"
"And you some of those transfiguration techniques," Professor Abara replied smoothly
The whole hall suddenly lit up in applause and cheers.
It was safe to say, everyone was now itching to go into the arena.
