Chapter 84: The impostor
"I was ambushed the morning I was supposed to come to Hogwarts to teach defense. " Moody said.
They were all surprised at the news.
"That was two weeks ago…Wait…are you telling me that we had that impostor from the first day?, and He is been teaching classes?" Snape asked in disbelief.
"Do you know who the attacker was?" Dumbledore asked.
"Aye, I recognize one of the bastards. It was Antonin Dolohov. There were two others with him but I didn't have time to see them clearly. "
Madam Pomfrey arrived at that moment and started to tend to Moodys.
"You don't have any serious injury. But you are severely starved and dehydrated. I have some potions that can help, but you will need a lot of rest."
Pomfrey said.
"Can't rest now woman!. That bastard may still be here. I don't know why He released me. But the moment He took me out of that dimensional luggage, He stunned me and left me there, I don't know how long I have been out, but it must have been hours." Moody said with anger.
"That is strange. The impostor was doing a good job at deceiving us. Why expose himself now?" Snape said.
"Maybe He accomplished what He came here for. Severus, did you not hear anything about this?" Dumbledore asked.
"Of course not!. I would have told you." Snape answered quickly, having taken offense at the question.
Dumbledore noticed this. "I'm sorry, my friend. I did not mean to doubt you."
"Headmaster!, an emergency!" The portrait of one of the previous Headmaster exclaimed.
"What is it?" Dumbledore looked at the nervous portrait.
"My portrait on the great hall has just heard something disturbing. It seems that the ghosts have found a dead person at the bottom of the astronomy tower!."
"Oh Goddess!, I hope is not a student," Pomfrey said.
Dumbledore and Snape looked at each other before standing up to leave, then Moody tried to stand.
"No, you don't." Pomfrey stopped him.
"You are missing an eye, a leg, and can barely stay conscious. You can stay here and wait for the Headmaster to return or I can take you to the infirmary."
Reluctantly, Moody sat back down.

Dumbledore quickly found the body among some rocks.
It was the impostor, and He was still wearing Moody's clothes, his artificial leg, and his magical eye. But the face has already gone back to his original looks.
Even with all of the injuries, Dumbledore recognized the man. The last time He saw him was during his trial, and soon after that, He heard about his death.
"Barty Crouch junior…" He said.
Snape also looked at the body and frowned.
"He was supposed to be death. His father has some questions to answer."
"I believe it would be prudent to call the Aurors. Amelia will not forgive me if I keep this a secret." Dumbledore said.

The next day, Hogwarts erupted in rumors and chaos. The Headmaster had declared that there will be no classes for the day and people had seen Aurors walking the grounds of Hogwarts.
The situation was similar to previous years so people were starting to wonder if someone else has died.
"That's awful, I hope no one died this time," Hannah said.
"I don't know, I tried talking to my aunt, but she only said that she was busy and couldn't talk at the moment." Susan commented while playing with her food, not feeling in the mood to eat.
"What do you think happened?" Luna asked Harry, who was reading the Dialy Prophet.
"With all of the deaths that we had so far in this school, would one more be that surprising?" Harry commented before going back to his lecture. Pretending that He had nothing to do with the current events.
"Oh, by the way," Hannah said, wanting to change the subject.
"Tomorrow is Hogsmeade weekend and Luna can finally come. So, what do guys say?"
"Yes, finally!" Luna raised her hands in excitement.
Susan smiled fondly. "Sure, it will be fun. But, we are going to need a gentleman to escort these three ladies."
All three looked at Harry and he sighed in resignation.

The authors found evidence of Barty Crouch having been a victim of the Imperio curse, but could not find anything pointing to the culprit.
They never even approached Harry, but even if they did, He knew several ways to hide the use of illegal spells on his wand.
In the end, Amelia concluded that it must have been some internal conflict among death eaters.
They interrogated Igor Kasparov and Snape but both of them had solid alibis and their wands were clean.

Malfoy Manor
"Dead?" Voldemort asked.
"Yes My Lord. I could not find the details of the investigation, but He was found dead after falling from the astronomy tower." Gibbon said.
"Someone must have found He was an impostor, Barty has always been quite incompetent," Bellatrix mocked.
Voldemort looked at her with anger.
"He was at least doing something useful. I don't remember the last time You did something like that. "
"My apologies my lord. My sister hasn't been feeling well latetly and needed my company. Losing her son and husband has be-"
"I don't care!" Voldemort yelled.
"I only care about results. And lately, I seem to be getting nothing but FAILURES !." He slammed his hands on the table.
The other death eaters sitting at the table were starting to get nervous.
"My Lord. I'm sure there will be more opportunities to kill that brat." Mcnair commented.
The glance that Voldemort threw at him made him look down and stay silent.
"How is everything else going? Bella, report." Voldemort turned to look at her.
"Avery said that the giants have agreed to fight for you and will be here in two months' time. Over two dozen foreign wizards have agreed to join our cause.
My husband and brother-in-law have agreed to the vampire's demands, as You instructed."
Bellatrix looked at Voldemort for a moment.
"Are you sure about this My Lord?. Giving them Hogsmeade and Hogwarts seems a bit excessive."
"Unfortunately we need them. But, the deal is not going to be as good as they think. After what I have planned next…there may not be much left of Hogwarts. "
Voldemort's laugh resounded in the dining hall of Malfoy's manor.
