Chapter 43: December happenings

Christmas was fast approaching; it was now the 15th and the students that had decided to go home were starting to pack up. The holidays would span from the 17th of December to the 4th of January which was a decent break, to say the least.

The snow continued to pile up on the castle grounds which added to the festive spirit that was starting to roam around. Hermione was happily reading her book on the couch as I walked down the stairs from my room.

Classes would end today which was a relief since we had been studying heavily and a good break was needed. It would give us time to implement a couple of our ideas, such as the physique enhancing potion, the mirror of erised and training new spells, charms and jinx's.

We headed down towards the great hall where breakfast was being served, it was boisterous and busy as students talked to their friends, walked around heading in different directions, it reminded me of a busy ant colony.

Sitting down and eating our breakfast, the owls came flying in as normally seen every day. I saw Aria who seemed to be carrying the newspaper and a letter which was probably the knights telling me all about what was happening.

As the letter dropped, I saw Aria land on Hermione's shoulder which pissed me off. What a traitorous bird. I didn't know whether to be happy or sad about it, Aria was annoying but I did get attached to her so it was a tug of war to see which side would win.

Shaking the useless thoughts out of my head, I opened the letter to find the contents to be exactly what I had guessed. Not that I minded since I liked to see what the world was up to while I immersed myself in a different one. It kept me grounded, constantly reminding me that there is another world out there. Hermione seemed to get a letter herself and a book which after taking a look at, was about exercise, gymnastics and other things which would be good for her physical exercise.

My breakfast consisted of toast, eggs, a latte, and a banana afterwards. Hermione wouldn't stop looking at me like a weirdo for eating that combination, but I don't care, to me, it was a good transition of foods that gave me a good source of energy to get me through the day.

We had, potions first period which I had grown to hate since Professor Snape killed any semblance of a good mood I carried in the morning. Don't get me wrong, it was still fun to see Harry and Ron getting bullied consistently but his attitude towards us didn't change. I sometimes wondered how big the stick up his ass was.

He did piss me off with his useless comments again, but I managed to keep my snarky remarks to myself as long as he didn't go over the line, the fucker was a sour fruit to the core, I swear he's secretly a transfigured lemon.

Sadly, my lack of attention ruined my potion which lost me 5 points, but I didn't really care, I had lost most of my interest in potions. The teaching method just didn't resonate with me, but Hermione didn't cease to successfully complete all the potions which got back the points I lost. She gave me an angered look before smiling victoriously.

I didn't really care, she can have the petty victory, I just want to shove my foot in Snape's mouth to shut him the fuck up. [ do it, you wouldn't!] said Drak spontaneously. His remark made me jump before I burst into a laugh. Naturally what followed was a slap on the back of the head by a book Snape was holding.

'Drak you're not helping' I thought trying to hold in my chuckle before doing my potion again, this time doing it successfully. I walked out of the classroom with Hermione in tow before heading to charms where we did more theory and chilled while hearing Professor Flitwick's stories. It was a relaxing and productive class.

In the afternoon we had herbology before dinner in the great hall. Afterwards, there was astrology class at midnight which busted my balls. I was already in a sour mood from potion's and now I had to cut my sleeping time short due to this shitty class. I pretty much stopped paying attention halfway and just fell asleep, it was a completely useless subject I will never use.

Unlike those dumbass centaur's I don't trust the stars to guide my fate, I make my own. But there is some truth to their words since they did predict the death of Harry in the forest even if they got the year wrong.

I was awakened by Hermione just in time, as the teacher was walking towards our side of the class. It was funny since I could theoretically sleep all class and still be at the top mark wise due to the exam being based on the textbook. Stupid class if you ask me.

We headed towards our rooms, and I fell asleep again almost immediately. Like that another week passed by and it was now the middle of the Christmas holidays. Christmas was tomorrow and Hermione and I decided to write to our parents in order to wish them a happy holiday.

"I feel like I should gift them something," said Hermione in contemplation.

"Give them candy, I'm sure they'll like it a lot," I answered simply.

"Tom, are you dumb? My dad hates candy, he's a big no sugar guy," she said looking at me oddly.

"The question is not whether I'm dumb, it's whether you are," I said with a grin.

"You-" I stopped her by putting a finger over my mouth to signal her to be quiet.

"Did you forget that candy here is made with magic? No sugar is used," I said while rolling my eyes at her.

"We went over this same topic on Halloween," I sighed and facepalmed.

"Right… We did too, but where will I get some?" she asked.

"I have a solution, come with me," I beckoned for her to follow me.
