Chapter 4: New_Formation | System
Suddenly I felt my throat being heavy and dry. Still half-asleep I felt ache all over my body. Correct, I feel asleep in that horrible position from last night. I slowly got up and sat on the bed. Yawning and stretching. I looked over at the clock. 6:45 AM. I have at least more than 1 hour to get dressed, have an appetizing breakfast unlike the previous day.
I sighed. I looked over the ceiling. Was yesterday this much tiring? I unconsciously remind myself of that skin-ship. Well, true it was for the first time , I ve ever been held by an opposite sex....Why am I even thinking of that early in the morning? And also, this was bugging me all day yesterday. Have I heard her name somewhere? It feels like I know her. Definitely. Not mistaken.
Anyway, I went to the washroom and got myself ready. During opening my clothes , I realised that I was wearing the uniform from yesterday. Dirty. I quickly took off my uniform and searched for the new pair. If I had any. Fortunately, I was having another pair. I sighed in relief.
After that, I did my usual. I bathe. I got dressed. I packed my bag. I cooked. And I ate. I ate omurice. Well, yea I bought the ingredients yesterday over the supermarket.
I still had enough time to get to school. Nevertheless, I locked my room and made my way to my destination. I rode the elevator and came to the ground floor. Walking with my usual UNIQUE face, I glanced here and there. Observing.
"Um..mm..H-Hello... Ayanokouji."
I heard someone calling me. No, it wasnt Erza. But to my surprise, it was Sakura Airi, with Erza walking slowly behind. Erza was few steps behind her. She had her usual Earphones plugged, like nothing else matters. Eyes glued to the screen of the mobile. Guess she really loves music. An Artistic person.
I got my focus towards the pink-haired girl who called me.
" Oh yes..Hello there...Good morning Sakura."
Surprised she kind of jumped and said, "You-You know my name?" As I saw her getting red? Why would she become red at such a simple thing? Also she diverted her eyes. Definitely suspicious. I really dont understand women.
"Yea, I kind of remembered some of the names" As I put one of my hands in the pocket.
"Ah..I-I see.."
Someone was observing us. Yes. Erza was observing us. Does she think I ll do something to her friend in the broad daylight? No. Its not the case. Its just her personality. Rather, she is keeping her guard up for some reason. Or rather checking out something minutely.
After sometime she stopped glancing towards us.
"Also, hello to you, Erza.." I called out. Why did I do such a stupid thing? She was clearly concentrated on her mobile. Damn...
"Eriiiii!!!!!" Sakura shout-called her. I stared at her. Woah! she can also shout. Well she is a rather very shy person to begin with but guess she also can show some distinct features like Erza.
Coming to realise, what Sakura had done she mumbled ' Ah..sorry' .
My eyes went towards Erza, as she noticed her call and unplugged one of her earphones, and stood beside Sakura. With a stern face. The face From when I first saw her. In the bus.
"You called me. Is anything wrong?" She asked.
"Ah...no..its just Ayanokouji here said G'morning to you.." Sakura said with a small smile.
"Ah I see, I am sorry for the rudeness. Also Good morning to you."
"No worries." I assured.
"How much time do we have?" Sakura asked.
"26 mins left to go" I answered.
"We should probably head towards school." Erza proposed.
I do admire that self-composed personality of hers. Saying that, she walked upfront with Sakura, and me being on the left of her. Maybe I was interfering. But I noticed, how important of a friend, Erza is to Sakura. Sakura was the one who was starting conversations, also saying dumb things , got embarrassed over the silliest actions of hers, and smiling.
Erza, on the other hand, was going with the flow of the conversation, even though she didnt talk much, just simply nodded or said one-two words, it felt like Sakura understood, what exactly those actions meant.
Must be nice to have a friend. Maybe I should try a little more. Today. But I didnt imagine, that Today I will be walking to school with Erza and Sakura. Both were the last person I could think of. Also along with Horikita.
I hope everything goes well with Horikita today. I dont want to argue, the very beginning of the class. I sighed. I wonder why I am sighing so much today.
"Ayanokouji, you alright?"
Erza asked while her eyes focused on me. Also Sakura's too.
"Yes. Its alright. Guess everything is wearing me out too much."
"Yea..its the 'point' system and the kind of questions in the Examinations, I am worried about". Sakura said as she placed her fingers over her chin in a 'Thinking' position.
Erza then continued, "Also no one told us anything about the criterion, specified for the given qualifications for being promoted to a Higher level of Class."
Now, the conversation is getting heavy. Why? Erza has now fully focused on the topic we are discussing, looking very interested. Is she into detective proses?No, she is interested, because she got hold of the topic which made her 'smirk'.
I didnt comment on anything. I was highly observing Erza, to confirm my real suspicions on her , whether it was true or not.
"Dont you think thats---" Erza was cut off by Sakura, "Definitely suspicious. But we could never know that, since Ms. Chabashira herself told she doesn't know the qualifications. Only the higher-ups in the organisation knows."
"That what makes it more suspicious. A criterion decided by a group of people." Erza narrowed her eyes.
" Supposely, assumed that the Homeroom teachers are all unaware. That results into them,not knowing how to grade the students, which gives us an explanation of the Gradation system". Erza stated. Ferociously Sharp. The same observation which I, myself did. She caught it, in seconds. Splendid.
" I dont quite understand 'what'...Eri.." Sakura asked in a low voice.
"The Grading system not only Qualifies students or rather candidates with the Academic results but also some other criterion, Which I am supposely thinking of as sports or any other relative subject." I spoke out.
I guess I am now sure that, she took notice of it as soon as the news was declared in the class. And that is why she purposely 'smirked' . I also have another suspicion about this 'System', but I am gonna leave it here.
[ Erza POV ]
(Before meeting with Ayanokouji)
I got ready. As I had enough time to meet with Airi, I went in front of her and waited. I didnt mind waiting for her. I had a feeling I am gonna meet with Ayanokouji before going to the class. Let the time explain whether my Intuition is correct or not.
I waited for Sakura atleast for 16 mins before she came out and mumbled 'Sorry for making you wait for me.'
"This isnt a new thing, is it? And I ve told you its fine. Dont worry about unnecessary things, Airi." I assured her. "Shall we get going, then?"
"Ah..yes of course." She smiled.
We were on our way , but I felt like listening to music. Thus I plugged the earphones. Music helps me concentrate better. Anyway, Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, huh? Very Skeptical being.
Doesnt talk much. But observant. I doubted it, because of his interrogation about me and Airi's relationship. Well, I just happen to believe , that it wasnt a coincidence he saw us together. Also, including the fact, he glances at me every now and then.
Since I am wary of him, in some sense. I just need to clarify, this one thing, bugging me. Just one conversation is enough. For me to clear my suspection about him.
I was walking a few steps behind Airi. Purposely. I know since, I think I do have a minorly good impression on Ayanokouji, from the first meeting in that mall. I supposedly believe, that he will call out to me, for a minor 'Greeting' .
Assumed, that he calls me out. Then when the time is right, I ll slip into that ONE conversation. If my suspection is correct. Then, its all going along well. Otherwise, I ll find another specific time to get hold of some conversation. He is the person, I should watch out for anyway. For later.
First things first, my first intuition was 100% correct. Ayanokouji Kiyotaka was walking the same direction as us. A little distance, from Airi. I narrowed my eyes at him wearing my usual stern face. What a crucial timing Ayanokouji.
I nudged Airi's hand, to call her. She answered, "Is something wrong?" I guess she didnt know Ayanokouji. No, she might have forgotten him. After all, I did tell her about the conversation between him and me and also the incident.
I eyed towards Ayanokouji.
"Thats Ayanokouji."
Even being hesitant though, she went towards him and shyly called him. I was just noticing his actions, nothing unusual for someone who wary the other .
Since the situation was all normal I continued listening to music and thought about the later interrogations.
Not long after that, I noticed a vague call perpetuating through my earphones, by none other than Sakura . I went to her.
"You called me. Is anything wrong?" I asked.
"Ah...no..its just Ayanokouji here said G'morning to you.." Sakura said with a small smile. I think she doesnt really find anything fishy. That's alright. I dont particularly like sharing my observations with someone else, even though its my 'friend'.
"Ah I see, I am sorry for the rudeness. Also Good morning to you." I apologized.
"No worries." He assured me.
"How much time do we have?" Sakura asked.
"26 mins left to go" He answered.
While going, Me and Sakura was talking, rather it was purely one-sided to Sakura.
I noticed, how Ayanokouji was a little distant. He sighed over and over again.
"Ayanokouji, you alright?"
"Yes. Its alright. Guess everything is wearing me out too much." He said with his usual face. Just what is 'everything' to your senses? Ayanokouji?
After that, Sakura enquired about the specifications about the conversation between us three. More like, Ayanokouji and Me. Perfect.
I took this chance and said the words which I wanted to say from the beginning. Very close to clear my doubts. Just one line away.
"Also no one told us anything about the criterion, specified for the given qualifications for being promoted to a Higher level of Class." All right. Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, lets see now, the real deal.
" I dont quite understand 'what'...Eri..." Airi spoke in a low voice, I guess not to attract any attention.
"The Grading system not only Qualifies students or rather candidates with the Academic results but also some other criterion, Which I am supposely thinking of as sports or any other relative subject." Ayanokouji finally spoke out.
Correct. By here onward, I could say my suspicions were right. He was indeed, a true observer, of the total situation.
I realised this fact, the moment Ms. Chabashira told us about the 'System' intentionally. Also, I observed the fact, she was unusually talkative that day. Which made my suspicions, grow more intense. I connected the dots as far as I remember, which made me realise, there was another thorn in the Elite room. Observing the situation very intently.
I doubted, it was Horikita Suzune, but no. She was more of a self- restricted person. Who doesnt really care about others, and purposely focuses onto her own mind-goals. A person doesnt like to include others in their own goals.
Then, came Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, unbelievably quiet. Seems like he wanted friends but unfortunately, not being able to acquire one. Not that its his fault ; its just that anyone doesn't seem to interest him. All he ever did was talk to Horikita . Rather argue.
If you ask me, why these two I had my suspicions on, then its quite easy, they both are what stands out the most after Kushida Kikyou and Hirata Yousuke.
This is what, I observed in my first day. In the later half, when the 'incident' happened in the supermarket, I had a hunch about several things.
First, what other expects from Ayanokouji, doesn't matter to him.
Second, Horikita regards herself as a superior.
Third, Ayanokouji is self-reliant and calm in hilarious moments like those. On the other hand, Horikita seems to be the type to prove herself right in anyway possible.
This made me conclude, Horikita might be distant and harsh and might have a self-complex, which may make her an easy target to manipulation.
Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, on the other hand, is a Distant, calm, logical person, with a sense of self-competence. Which makes him, an easy suspect of being a manipulator.
Now back to the where it was.
The conversation went from low to high real quick. The conversation which I wanted to get encountered with. The most. All thanks to Sakura.
The conversation and also my observations, made me sure that Ayanokouji IS the person. The thorn.
"Now, coming to this 'point' system" I spoke. We were near the class about now. "Shall we discuss about it , some other time?" I suggested.
I wanna see what your viewpoint is Ayanokouji. Is that the same as mine?
Ayanokouji stared at me , while I had that stern face of a rock. I dont particularly like expressions so I guess its fine.
"Yea, lets discuss about it some other time, Ayanokouji, and also it would be great if you can be an acquaintance of ours." She gave a small smile of generosity. A pure girl with a pure conscience?
"Yes...sure...if you dont mind me." He said.
Was he hesitant?
"Yea, not a problem. Its fine if the discussion helds at your place, Eri?" Airi asked.
Not that I have a problem though. As long as I could hear his view-point.
"Sure..."
With that, we went inside our class. The starting of our day was quite hectic. I hope nothing troublesome happens. Hopingly.
