Chapter 1: Prologue- The Beam

Jack had chestnut brown hair and dark brown eyes. On his left eye stood a mole, perfectly fitting with his chiseled jaw and body.

He was a defender: One of the highest statuses a mage could have, though being on the low-ranking side; he was a fan favorite thanks to his looks.

"Say, Jack, how is being a magician treating you?"

Jack perked up, hearing his uncle's question. Putting down his fork and knife, he turned his attention from his medium-rare steak.

He sighed

"Well, it is tiring- Being one of the defenders," He waved his hands and tilted his head. "The pay is good, though."

He elaborated, getting back on his meal by cutting a humungous piece. He was 18 now, being the youngest and weakest defender. He was kept for his potential, but he was happy he got enough money to live comfortably.

Jack's and Sara's dad looked away from his television and stared at Sara, giving her a grungy look.

She was a freelancer and still did not have her own house. She was always rebelling, even though she was older than Jack. Everybody was too lazy to get her into shape, as it never worked.

"Gef off your phone,"

Jack called out to his sister. Sara did not bat an eye and kept sticking to her screen, being ignored. Jack blew a vessel or two; She used to tease him all the time- whenever he got bad scores whenever Jack hung out with a girl.

Now she was a freelancer, always on the computer and talented at nothing. She still lived with their parents, making the whole family worried about her.

But Jack was fond of her current situation. The roles had reversed. Jack would frequently tease her to seek revenge. He believed he had earned it after all the beatings and torture he had endured.

"Sara, please eat your food."

She softly requested while placing the food in front of Sara. She had a sweet spot for their mom. And Jack knew of this fact:

Sara closed her phone and grabbed her spoon. She was about to eat her soup when she saw Jack staring at her with a mischievous expression. She looked away, trying to ignore his aura. He smiled, knowing he had won.

"Jack, can you check the antenna?"

The man shouted from the television; the screen had turned crimson red with a tilt of orange. Jack whisked out of his seat, grabbing his dad, mom, and sister.

As their uncle followed Jack's lead: They sensed a behemoth amount of magic coming to their location. So, they broke through the wall and ran away.

But the attempt was futile… As everything became white.

"Welcome,"

A gentle voice danced around in Jack's ears; A girl with long sparkling silver hair and glacious pink eyes introduced herself with her long crystal eyelashes, and a shining halo sparkled through her head.

The snow-white wings spread out from her back, and her pale skin and cherry lips radiated with a shine no girl could have. Compared to her, the most beautiful human was cannon fodder.

But Jack was too confused to react to the angel's beauty, which made her eye spiral. She was ignored for the first time, but she had to regain her cold expression as this was quite a serious job.

"Jack Burden died at the age of 19. And God has a request for you. We need you to go back into the past. Approximately 4 years ago, but the event will change."

Jack had finally grasped the situation. he scurried down at the mention of his death. So, it was true, he had died, but how? No mana beam could be that fast; They were deadly and all, but a shroud that fast? That was impossible.

"How the fuck?"

It was a simple but deadly question, the power in question; Was nothing a human could shed.

"Well, that was what you call a rebellion of minor gods: One lower god sacrificed himself to destroy your planet. And the True God could not interfere as he was not allowed, and the angels were not fast enough."

The angel spoke like a greek man telling a story of how Zeus did a donkey, poetic and confusing, he was never the wisest guy, but he genuinely thought she spoke nonsense.

Lower gods? True Gods? Angels? What is this a fantasy novel, well, magic is a thing, but still, this was too much to gobble up. It was trenching than the second stage breakdown, and every mage knew how hard that process was.

"Where do I come into this?"

"We need you to turn back. And if you do… I Tien shall become a mortal and become your guide."

She stumbled on her words. An angel was supposed to be a mortal. What could be more humiliating? Every angel was once mortal. But still, it was not a good sign. Either God was desperate, or she had gotten fired for one planet.

And she hoped it was the first option.

"I accept."

Jack did not hesitate. A new chance at life? Who would not take that offer, even though he had to stop a calamity? Even if he died, he decided he would fix some mistakes… And apologize to a certain someone.

This was a dream-like situation.

"Wha…"

"I accept."

The angel swirled around.

"You sure? I think you should think about it."

Her holy façade had fallen, and Tien was losing her cold expression. She looked like a child that saw a toy store for the first time, indecisive and sad.

"Well, I have one more question."

Tien slapped her face; It was gods will, and she could do nothing about it.

"What is your question?"

"How many years will I be going back?"

Jack tilted his head; this was the question he most wanted to ask.

"Approximately 4 years, didn't I already say this?"

'Have she?' He did not listen to most of her rambles.

"If you are out of questions, the process shall begin."
