Chapter 10: Grimoire

This morning Julius was awakened by his little sister, Daphne, tapping lightly on his shoulder.

Groaning Julius opened his eyes, he had trained his magic for far to long the day before to prepare for finally getting his own focus, even he was nervous, knowing that he would need to make a hundreds of years old and at least slightly sentient focus accept him today.

"Yes? Daph what are you doing here? Shouldn't you still be sleeping?"

"Mother said we will move today and that father is gone, is that true? Can we really leave this place today?"

Daphne had never left the mansion in her whole life so she was understandably excited for her first time doing so and when he saw her eager smile he couldn't help but pat her head while sitting up in his bed.

"Why are you even coming to me with this? Didn't mum already tell you about this herself?"

After a short conversation it was revealed Daphne had such trust in her big brother that she, after hearing her father was finally gone and they would be able to leave this place, coupled with how Julius had spoken with their father alone at breakfast, immediately came to the conclusion he must have something to do with it.

Since Julius had played with her whenever he had time when she was still very little and also oftentimes helped her against their father she was looking up to him enough that she would form a deep grudge against anyone speaking bad of him or to him.

"Well Daph, why don't we go to breakfast now? We shouldn't keep mother and George waiting."

As to avoid suspicion of George having something to do with this mess they had to stage a rushed and unprepared journey to Magical Britain for him which included not booking a room anywhere beforehand and despite the ease with which one of the richest wizards on earth could have found a room in one of the few actually presentable hotels, which were at least partly built by George himself after Julius made him aware of the condition all hotels in Great Britain were in, it was decided for George to sleep in one of the rooms in the mansion, after all there was a big amount of guest rooms in it which were almost never used.

"Good morning mum, George. Oh and Astoria is here too?"

When Julius entered the dining hall he surprisingly noticed his youngest sister sitting next to his mother while eating, even though still a bit clumsily.

"Good morning Jules. Yes, I thought now that there is nothing preventing it anymore I could finally eat together with little Astoria. It was not exactly nice to lock her in her room every time I ate and hope she doesn't get hurt. But let's start eating now, I see you brought Daph with you too."

Daphne was hiding behind her brother and peeking at George shyly, amusing everyone in the room aside from Astoria which was still concentrating on using her spoon.

After eating in silence George took Julius with him to the Abraxus Family mansion through side-apparating, as it turned out there was a fidelius charm on the mansion but as George was the secret keeper that was not really an issue.

Nearing the wall made from black, sharp-edged crystals surrounding the huge mansion held in black with red accents Julius noticed a book, presumably the grimoire they were here for, floating in the air in front of the gate, which was big enough to easily let a carriage through.

The cover of the book looked smooth and had, again, a black colour with a small red gem in the form of a star in the middle.

„What do I need to do now George?"

Julius inspected the grimoire but didn't dare touch it, after all who would be stupid enough to touch a family heirloom of a family well versed in dark and death magic, but it seemed his worries were unnecessary as George's answer showed:

"You just have to touch it young master, it should then check if you are indeed of the Abraxus family and then it will shortly look at your magic power, it should even strengthen it a bit if it deems you worthy of wielding it."

Julius had noticed how George had avoided answering the question what would happen if he was deemed unworthy but it was probably irrelevant as he knew he was a descendant of the Abraxus family as well as that he already had his magic core.

After Julius touched the grimoire and immediately felt the magic power of the grimoire enter his body and surprisingly though it was a very tiny amount of magic power there was something about it that gave him the feeling any resistance would be his death.

After the magic power covered his entire body once he felt it probing his magic core and apparently it was satisfied as a slight feeling of approval radiated from the magic power before it left him and the stone in the cover of the book suddenly lit up and formed lines of red which formed „Infinitium per Mortem".

In the moment when the lines stopped forming Julius felt a connection to the grimoire, even though for now he didn't know any spells so he could only control the grimoire itself, it seemed the floating was not just a temporary spell as he felt through his connection to the grimoire the ability to control where it floated and to open it at any page he wanted.

After ordering the it to follow his movements and to float a bit behind him he addressed George again.

"Can we enter the mansion now?"

„Yes young master, but we would also need to write your sisters' and mother's name on the guest book to make sure they can enter too or else they will trigger the wards, something I think we would both like to avoid.

I would also like to inform you that this grimoire holds all the spells anyone who ever used it knew. Meaning you should be able to learn those spells far better with this grimoire then any teacher could ever teach them to you even though you obviously still have to learn them.

Let's first finish moving in and you also need to speak with the house elf, she should have been pretty lonely for all those years alone inside the mansion but she wanted to guard it till you came to claim it."

When the both of them walked to the gate it opened automatically and completely silently allowing sight on a bridge leading to the courtyard of the mansion which was separated from the gate through a moat filled with water, though there seemed to be a bit of movement in its depths.
