Chapter 14: Returning To The Hotel.
Laura stared at the man sitting next to her with a shallow smile on her lips. James had called his driver to come and pick him up and decided to drop Laura off at her hotel before he went back to his place. It was rare for him to have a free weekend, so he was planning on making the most of it.
"Is there something on my face?" James asked as he turned to look at her.
"No, but I can't help but look at you," Laura answered honestly. James chuckled when he heard her response and continued to read the script he was holding.
He had changed into more formal clothes before they left. He was wearing a beige turtleneck with a black blazer and a pair of black slacks. It was simple, but it made him look both ascetic and sexy, which was very contradictory but somehow worked with him.
"Why did we have to leave so early? We could have gone horse-riding," Laura lamented, as she finally looked away from the handsome man to stare at the scenery outside.
"We'll go ride horses next time. We can also play some golf if you want," James said, his focus not straying from the script in his hands.
"Really? Promise me," Laura said, turning to look at him once more. James turned to look at her once more before smiling and nodding. Laura wanted to continue chatting, but they had already arrived at her hotel.
"Why was the trip so short this time? I swear it took an hour when we went," Laura complained as she looked at the familiar entrance outside the window.
"It still took an hour to get here," James said before his door opened from outside. He then went around and opened the door for Laura, who had been gathering her belongings and putting them in her purse.
"Thanks," Laura said as she placed her hand over his offered arm for support and got off the car.
"Do you want to come up?" she asked him when she noticed that he wasn't going with her.
"Alright," James said, and before he could react, Laura hugged his arm and walked into the hotel with him.
The staff bowed politely when they saw the two of them and after a moment of confusion, Laura remembered that James was the owner's brother, so it made sense that the staff behaved this way around him.
The two of them got in the elevator and went up to the floor where Laura was staying. Laura used the key card to open the door and turned around to invite James inside. James, however, stayed outside the door, making no movement to follow her.
"Aren't you going to come in?" Laura asked him while holding the door open.
"I'll stop here today," James said, determined not to get tempted into going inside with her.
"That's unfortunate. Well then, I guess I'll see you tomorrow," Laura said, feeling a bit disappointed.
"You can stop by my office tomorrow. We'll discuss work," James said to her. But it was unknown whether he was clarifying the reason for the meeting to her or to himself.
"I'll send you a driver," James added, and Laura showed him a wide smile before nodding happily.
"Then I'll let you rest first," James said, ready to leave, but he felt Laura tug on his arm when he was turning to go.
"Wait first," Laura said, and stepped forward, holding the lapels of his blazer. And pulled him towards her, forcing him to lower her head before placing a soft kiss on his lips.
"Enjoy your evening," Laura said and finally went into the hotel room, closing the door behind her.
James stared at the closed door for a while and only snapped out of his wandering thought when he heard the elevator doors open.
Seeing that the staff had brought up Laura's bag, James took it as his cue to leave. So he got into the elevator and went downstairs, anticipating tomorrow already.
Laura finally laid down on her bed after sorting out her luggage. The whole place was completely silent because Rachel hadn't returned yet. From what she had noticed earlier, it looked like some very exciting things had happened between her and Brian the previous night.
It was not easy to notice because of how she normally dressed, but she had seen some hickeys on the side of her neck when her hair had been blown by the wind. Also, seeing how Brian pretty much waited on her hand and foot gave it away.
She didn't even know if she was going to return today, especially since she had disappeared into Brian's wing halfway through the day. Laura stared at the ceiling as she got lost in thought and eventually dozed off.
She ended up waking up from her unplanned nap because she got hungry and her stomach was already protesting. With a sigh, she called the hotel reception and ordered some dinner before she went to take a shower.
While she sat on the bed while leisurely drying her long hair with a towel, she heard the doorbell ringing. She shrugged on her robe and went to open the front door. The servers brought in dinner and arranged it on the dining table before they left.
She sat down to have dinner while browsing through her social media. After meeting Jason, the two of them ended up following each other and even posted a few photos of them having fun at the birthday party, which made her fans start to speculate on whether or not she had finally decided to join a management company. A lot of them highly supported this speculation and encouraged her to do so if she was thinking about it.
She hadn't bothered to do so all these years because she didn't need to. Although both her parents passed when she was still in college, they left her a huge inheritance, which made it easy for her to invest in her friend's company.
Now she was just earning money from the dividends she received from the company and the pay whenever they launched a new product, since she was their advertising model.
But if James was going to be the one managing her, she was ready to take her career much more seriously and stop living the idle life she has enjoyed so far.
James, who was already resting at home, was unaware that Laura had only agreed to join his company and work as a model because of his own face value. And if he managed to find out, he would probably use that information to make her work a bit harder.
