Chapter 14: Preparing for the Apocalypse II
After leaving Saya and going through our second period it was time for me to head to my second destination for the next two hours before heading back home.
The Kendo Club.
I walked through the alleyways, people moved aside to allow me entrance as they departed school in a hurry as if they were allergic to books. Yuuki tried to approach me but stopped when she saw where I was heading. I think she has her suspicions hehe~ it is amusing to play with this girl.
She doesn't know if my girlfriend is Saya or Busujima-senpai, none of the two is a girl she wants to piss off. When the catastrophe starts, I wonder how long she will survive, I don't intend to protect her or any of her boyfriends.
Reaching the Kendo Club I saw several members. When they saw me enter; they bowed and I did so as well... one of them was Busujima-senpai who holding a wooden katana with aikido robes.
I changed and prepared for my training. Physical combat was one of the things I considered I needed to experience before the catastrophe, I could have easily gone for karate dojo or something of the sort but, then I thought... are you fucking insane?
I won't be punching or palming anything in that catastrophe... nothing... I'll either be slicing or shooting. At first, I thought about going to a Kendo dojo, but... it was then that I witnessed Busujima-senpai's skills one day. She had been doing a demonstration for the first years and her movements captivated my eyes, I have seen yakuza members in my past life, and they couldn't hold a candle to her movements.
I had been between the Kendo Club and the Sojutsu Club where Miyamoto belonged, but Busujima-senpai's skills did it for me.
For a month I have been attending and training with everyone she's quite fierce and indoctrinated.
"Are you ready, Kouhai-kun?~"
"Come at me, senpai..."
*WHOOSH!*
I swear this woman almost teleported... I have seen her fighting against the other members and I don't know why when it comes to me, she's merciless.
*BAANGG!*
I slashed forth with greeted teeth, it almost felt as if both our wooden swords were getting smashed with this mere clash. She retreated and used a technique of three touches, I barely managed to keep up with her before she hit my head.
"Ugh!" I sighed in irritation, holding my helmet.
"Again, Kouhai-kun... if you manage to touch me once, I will call you Brand-kun instead~ does that sound compelling?"
"You can't go back on your words, senpai!"
I rushed towards her, using a mixture of what she has taught me and also my street style. Going against her with her own style is equivalent to suicide, I can't be better at her style than her, and that's why I need to improvise.
I hit her several times seeking her shoulders but she blocked it all, in doing so I exposed my abdomen and when she made her move, I knew she was going for it.
'Come!'
She ducked and slashed forth against my abdomen; but I was expecting that, using my momentum I twisted away from her reach, but then she did something I would have never expected when I was ready to slash the fuck out of her head.
*BAANGG!*
She kicked me!
"FOUL!" The referee yelled, the whole place was astounded at what just happened, I held my hurting ribs and looked at her in disbelief.
'Hey, you can't do that!' did this woman just cheat me?
"I'm sorry, K-Kouhai-kun... I admit defeat" I heard Busujima-senpai's voice through her helmet and she took it out, looking at me with a smile.
'What the fuck are you smiling for?! you cheated!'
I thought in outrage as if I had never cheated anyone in my life, is this karma...?
"Winner, Brand Mercer..." The guys said and all applauded me, for a minute I had her, however, I was not content with this victory. I headed back to the changing room to get back into my high school uniform, Busujima-senpai was looking at me.
When I came out she wasn't there anymore.
"B-Brand-kun, don't take-"
"Shut up..." I said coldly to the senpai that tried to stop me and he immediately retracted his hand, what can I say, even third-years are scared of me, I beat four big guys on my first day of school. Yet I just lost to some high school girl that tried to be smart.
Sighing I departed the dojo with the intention of going back home, Shizuka wouldn't pick me up today, I looked at my phone I had no calls from her whatsoever, she must be busy, usually, at this time she'd send me a message saying she loved me and stuff.
"Kouhai-kun..." I heard Busujima-senpai's voice behind me as I left, she had changed as well and rushed towards me, holding two wooden swords in their scabbards.
"What is it, Busujima-senpai?"
"Could we talk?"
"I'm heading back home..."
"We can go together" She suggested, holding my wrist.
"No problem, do you live towards the main district?" I didn't mind but what if we live opposite ways?
"Yes, I believe we live en route... I-I have seen the direction you take whenever you leave with Shizuka-sensei".
We began walking back, I'd usually take a bus but walking was perfectly doable.
There was silence between us, I don't know if I'm upset with this woman or not, it would be petty to be angry at her, however... she cheated. I don't like people cheating on me, I cheat, not the other way around!
"I'm sorry for what happened, Brand-kun".
"Just call me Brand, Busujima-senpai".
"T-Then... you can call me Saeko, would you accompany me to that park?" She pointed towards a park nearby and I shrugged my shoulders, following her.
When we arrived in the middle of the park, she put her bag down and turned around towards me, giving me one of the swords.
"Would you like to have another duel, Brand?"
"Hmn... why?" I frowned, taking the sword. Busujima-senpai instead smirked when I took the sword, releasing hers from the scabbard.
"How about we have a duel... a freestyle one... you can punch me, kick me... slice me... and I can answer just in kind, what do you say?~" Her silhouette looked as beautiful as she was threatening.
"Sounds like the type of duel I'd like to have~" I took the sword, it is time for some payback.
"If you win, what would you like?" She suddenly asked me, taking her position as we circled around the two school bags.
"So there are bargain ships? you tell me what you'd like if you win".
"If I win... you have to spar with me like this... every day~"
"Every day?!" This woman is insane or what? I can't do this every day.
"Yes~" She confirmed to me.
"I can't every day... but twice a week I can go along and spar with you" I confessed, there is still my training with Shizuka and I also want to train my aim with the crossbow, although fighting with her like this is also a training of sorts, I can't completely invest myself to it as I don't intend for the sword to be my main weapon during the catastrophe. Regardless of what sort of enemies I will be fighting, I'd rather do it long distance.
"Why? got some things to do with your girlfriend?" Saeko asked me with a poisonous voice.
"Yes," I said the truth, Shizuka is my girlfriend and we will be training... among other things.
"..." She frowned and readied her sword, "What do you want, Brand?"
"If I win, show me a true sword, you're the descendant of the Busujima shrine, surely you must have a real Katana in there, right?~"
My intention was simple, I want to analyse a real katana, the greater the quality, the better... there musn't be a better Katana than the ones being held by her family, a traditional family of samurai.
"Just show?" She asked solemnly, obviously, she was not willing to hand me any of their swords let alone sell.
"Yes".
"Deal!"
*WHOOSH!*
She came at me with everything she got, holy cow... this time there is no protecting gear, no nothing, this is no different than a gangster's fight, just we're using swords instead of our fists.
*BAANGG!*
We clashed, I felt my hands receive the whole impact and then I saw it, her smile. It was then that I realised that I stumbled upon a treasure. The person that I need with me in this catastrophe.
