Chapter 38: EXCEPTION

Shiro walked in and sat on the chair offered to him by Suichiro.

"I didn't come for a long talk. Just to apologize for last night and then inform you about our decision on our departure." Shiro spoke the moment he sat down.

"I see. Why are you bringing such information to me? I thought you made it clear that you didn't want anything to do with a leadership position?" Suichiro asked.

"I just figured you're quite busy so it would be annoying to disturb you while you're busy. We had a brief meeting and due to the construction of a wagon, our departure will be extended for a day or two." Shiro explained.

"Ah, I see." Suichiro nodded. "I assume Saya already suggested taking one from the family storehouse."

Shiro nodded in response. "We'll be making adjustments to the wagon, but thank you for giving us permission to take one."

Shiro rose to his feet and bowed deeply. "I'm really sorry for everything that happened between us last night. I was already in a pretty bad mood and your words were the sparks that ignited the dynamite at the moment. I find insults to me quite acceptable except they're directed at my parents."

Suichiro also rose and bowed his head. "It was childish of me to bring parents into the discussion last night. Saeko told me all about it but I guess I was just angry and ended up speaking badly about it. I'm deeply sorry." Suichiro apologized.

"It's… it's fine. You should raise your head." Shiro stammered when he saw Suichiro bow in apology.

Suichiro raised his head and sighed in relief. "But honestly, would you have pulled your sword against me at that moment?"

Shiro was caught off guard by the question. "I would certainly have done so."

"You're too bold and straightforward. Bold enough to threaten me and then go ahead to make confirmation on such a threat. I like it, considering you have the strength to back up such a threat." Suichiro smirked.

"I guess that's all you had to talk about." Suichiro sat back down in his seat.

"Yes. I already gave a summary of our delay and you permitted us to take a wagon from the storehouse." Shiro nodded.

"When did I?" Suichiro asked, he was also confused. When had he permitted Shiro without knowing?

"The fact that you already asked about it means that much. You wouldn't speak about it if you weren't going to permit us."Shiro smiled.

"I never said that but I guess there's no point in disapproving of it. You're free to exploit the storehouse." Suichiro nodded.

"Thank you very much for your time and help." Shiro bowed once more.

"I just want to see my daughter at her safest point. That's with you kids so I'll do my best to assist you all. Also," Suichiro leaned in closer on his table and Shiro had to do the same.

"No one should know about what happened last night. For the sake of all three of us, let's keep it in the past." Suichiro spoke but it sounded like a plea.

"I'll keep that in mind." Shiro bowed for the last time to show his respect before walking out of the room.

Suichiro sighed with great relief as if he had just finished a meeting with the president. "He's a dangerous one. Luckily, he's on our side or it would be game over already."

Shiro walked back to the room and found all of them remained inside. It had been over twenty minutes since he left but he had no idea they would wait.

"Well? What did he say?" Saeko asked since everyone was too embarrassed to do it.

"We can exploit the storehouse to our satisfaction," Shiro answered and walked to his favorite couch.

"I feel like this has something to do with last time," Saya said. Everyone immediately thought she was referring to the spar between Shiro and her father but Shiro knew what she meant and objected.

"It has no relationship with last time." Shiro shook his head.

Saya brushed off a small part of her hair that was resting on her left eye. "If you think so, then, fine. We should head to the storehouse since we already have permission." She walked toward the door and the others followed behind except Shiro.

"Aren't you coming?" Rei asked.

"Who should I? It's basically like sightseeing. You all should head there. I wanna sleep. I might join up later." Shiro shrugged and lay down on his couch.

Kohta turned to Shiro. "I'll be expecting the story when I get back." But Shiro shook his head. "That would now be impossible. I'm sorry about that." Shiro apologized.

"It's fine either way." Kohta walked off with the rest of the group.

"Now I get to rest as much as I want." Shiro felt like his whole body had sunk into the couch.

He closed his eyes to sleep and flashes of him being tied to a hospital bed appeared. "On second thought, I think I'll head out for a short hunting trip while the others are busy." Shiro stood up, picked up his backpack with his sword attached to it, and wore it.

Suichiro was already aware of Shiro sneaking out so Shiro decided not to sneak out this time. With crazy bravery, he walked up to the main gate.

"I'm leaving the estate for two hours and then I'll be back." Shiro told the guards at the gate.

"We cannot allow that. The family head ordered us not to allow anyone out." One of the middle-aged men with yellow hair refused.

Shiro chuckled. "Well, there's an exception to everything. I am the exception to that rule, and if you don't believe me, you should go and ask him." Before Shiro left for the main gate, he had seen Suichiro sitting on one of the balconies that faced the main gate and he was sure Suichiro had also seen him leave.

Before the others could argue further, the walky-talky in their hands made sounds and they picked it to respond.

Only one sentence was uttered and they had to obey. It was from the same family head that gave the previous order. "Let him through."

Shiro turned back toward the buildings and bowed. He was sure Suichiro could see him. He looked at the men and smiled. "I am the exception."
