Chapter 20: Chapter 20 Couldn't stop looking
He walked to her and on reaching, he cleared his throat and said," Uh, good afternoon." "Good afternoon," she replied, her eyes looking down. She couldn't bring herself to look at him in the eye.
"I need to talk to you. Will you give me a few seconds of your time?" he asked. "Well, I have no option. You are my boss after all," she muttered under her breath but he heard it clearly. "Uh, not in that light," he replied before looking behind him to see that his assistant was at a distance and wouldn't eavesdrop on their conversation.
"I... I am so sorry about what happened last night," he spoke before adding,"The truth is that, it wasn't my intention to see you naked- "
"Did you really have to state it?" she couldn't help but ask. "Ohh, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry I didn't mean to. The thing is, I am not that kind of person. When I came back, I was going to take the stairs when I heard you talking to someone. I got curious on who you were speaking to and I decided to take a look. It's when I saw you in that state," he explained and she eventually raised her eyes to meet his.
Looking at her, Jing Yue noticed her clear large black eyes that looked back at him. Her facial features were soft, making her look very innocent.
He noticed her long, thick lashes and sharp nose. His eyes also took in her plump pink lips and he couldn't believe that she was this beautiful. It was the first time he was taking time to look at her and oh God, he didn't want to stop!
"I honestly find it hard to believe you Mr Jing Yue because you would have left the very first instant you saw me...in that state but I caught you staring. As though you had come a long time ago," she replied and she subconsciously bit the corner of her bottom lip. Seeing the innocent action, Jing Yue realized that looking at her lips was a big mistake.
He forced his eyes away and said, "You are right. But the thing is, I didn't notice when I lingered for so long, I promise. I honestly didn't know how and why...I couldn't stop myself from looking," he said and her eyes widened at the statement. "I acknowledge that it was my mistake and all I ask is for your forgiveness and that you please not misunderstand me," he added.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before saying,"Alright. I will believe you." "Thank you," he said and turned to look at his assistant then gestured for him to come over.
"Please accept this small gift from me," he said. Her eyes fell on the box which didn't look to be small at all.
"You don't have to do that Mr Jing Yue. I already said that I forgive you." "I insist. Take it if you have really forgiven me," he said and she gave it a thought before nodding.
He looked at his assistant and gestured for him to take it to her room which he did. "I will be taking my leave now. You can inform me if you don't like them and we have a change," he said and she nodded although she knew that she would never do it. When he walked away, she entered her room and looked at the beautifully wrapped gift box that was placed on her bed.
Sitting on the bed, she pondered over his words. Did he just say that he couldn't stop himself from looking? What did he mean by that? Subconsciously, she blushed and her cheeks turned red as she reached for the ribbons then stopped her hands midway. Even though he had apologised to her, she wasn't fully convinced and she was still cautious. When she recalled the state in which he had seen her, she covered her face with both her hands. He had almost seen everything!
When night fell, Tang Ning went to the bathroom and on coming back, she changed into her night wear as always. Her eyes settled on the gift box before leaving it and she reached for her phone. She talked to her father and then called Daiyu who didn't pick up. Placing the phone down, she remembered that the twins were coming back the next day and she became excited because she found the house boring without them.
She afterwards stood up and opened the door before walking outside. Going to the kitchen, she opened the fridge and got herself a glass of milk. She leaned against the kitchen counter and started drinking the milk when the door opened and on looking, it was her boss who came in.
She suddenly became uncomfortable and wondered what he was doing in the kitchen.
"You're here," he commented and went to the fridge before pulling it open. She watched him pour himself a glass of water and drank from it making her wonder if his room didn't have any water. She decided to drink the milk fast so that she could escape the eerily silent environment.
When she got done, she immediately washed the glass before placing it back in its original place. "From where did you learn to sing?" she heard him ask before she could leave.
She turned to look at him and gave a small smile before saying," Since childhood. I was told that my mother was a great singer and I could have gotten it from her."
Jing Yue realized that it was the first time he was seeing her hair let down, not in it's usual neat bun and he realized that she looked even more attractive.
He nodded at her words and asked," Haven't you ever thought of becoming a known singer?"
She shook her head lightly before saying," Not really. It is something I often did in high school due to passion and nothing more. I have never thought of making it a career." She saw him nod and before he could ask any further, she said," Have a good night Mr Jing Yue." "Have a good night too. Uh, did you like the gifts?"
"Uh, the gifts...I haven't yet checked them but I will do it before I go to sleep. Please excuse me," she said before leaving.
