Chapter 1: Prologue
"Stefano.Run!!Run!!"
I can't run away from those people they are my co-workers. They have been with me since day one in this war. I can't believe that they are few of us who are left in this war. Many lives have been lost. There is so much blood and bodies
" Steff save your self. There's nothing you can do to save us"
I saw their eyes there is no hope left they already accepted their destiny.
I saw a grenade flying in the air towards my friends. I didn't think I ran and jumped to the grenade. The only thing I remember is a loud explosion and all went black.
5 hours later:In the hospital
"Mr Morrati". I hear a faint sound calling for me.
"Mr Stefano, can you move your fingers?"
I try to move my fingers and my body is in so much pain.
"Can you open your eyes?" The doctor asks.
"Yes" I open my eyes I move my eyes and everything is so blurry.
I'm so much pain. I look around and see a doctor and some nurses. I look to my legs I try to move them. Shit I can't feel my legs. The machine beeps so fast the doctor check up on me.
"Mr Morrati you are having a panic attack try to breathe". I try to breath but there is so much pain around my chest.
"Breathe in and out" I finally managed to breathe.
My body feels so numbed. "Doctor why I can't feel my legs?"
"You have been in an ancident and we were forced to remove your leg during the surgery."
"Why?" I ask the doctor.
"You are a brave man, you jumped on a grenade to save lives even though they were lost. You didn't think about yourself/health you tried to save them"
"They didn't survive?" I asked the question that was bothering me all this time.
"I deeply apologize they didn't survive but what you did for them was very brave" I start to feel so much pain it was all for nothing.
"I'm deeply sorry Mr Morrati. You lost leg you have to be amputated. You will have to sign some papers and we will contact your family."
"If you need any help with your mental health feel free to say you will get the best help. The government paid for everything you are a hero to all of us."
"No!! ." I say so loudly
"Are you sure?"
"Yes"
It was all for nothing. I risked my life and they died I lost my leg.
I jumped on a grenade for absolutely nothing.
I lost an leg.
I will never be same again.
