Chapter 85: Chapter 85 - The Contract

Over the next three days, wizards and the ancient one cast various spells on the cavern that Asmodeus had "dug." Thanks to the spatial expansion enchantment, the cave, originally 500 square meters, now surpassed the size of a football stadium.

Yet, when Tony decided to send a construction team led by Jarvis deeper into the cave, they encountered a problem. The deeper they went, the denser the mana became, causing electronic devices to malfunction. Solving this issue proved challenging. Until Tony could find a way to adapt his energy source to function in high mana concentration areas of the Harry Potter world, the Avengers had to manually set up their base.

Well, at least Hulk enjoyed expanding the cave when there wasn't enough room for a sofa.

While Steve and the Avengers deliberated on sofa placement, Asmodeus and Tony delved into the wellspring of knowledge, the Kamar Taj. Each had their research direction. The book-copying process continued, likely taking another month to complete.

Asmodeus initially tried to figure out how to make the ancient portal work with his own mana. He thought it would be simple – replace the mana source, and everything would be ready. However, the sling ring directly summoned a specific type of energy that easily opened the portal. Initially thinking it was because the mana of the Marvel world was a better fit, Asmodeus had a conversation with the ancient one. She provided him with another book that intricately explained portal magic principles. It turned out this magic had two modes of operation: the tabletop opening of a spatial channel, and the other, drawing a spatial tunnel closer to oneself. In essence, most Kamar Taj wizards used the latter. In reality, this magic didn't create a passage; it simply allowed the traveler to join one of the countless spatial tunnels permeating our universe. Thus, the sling ring served as a navigator for a traveler who had lost their way.

As for directly creating a new spatial tunnel, only the ancient one uses portals; this method is considered crude and impractical, consuming much more mana without any advantages over connecting to the channel. The only difference is that with the initial spatial rift, you can secure the portal to stay open permanently, whereas spatial tunnels appear and disappear, and you sustain them with your mana until you pass through.

Understanding all the nuances, Asmodeus faced a dilemma: how to ensure the number of spatial tunnels in his world matches here? The rules of the world and spatial stability also made him doubt this method of travel.

While Asmodeus contemplated altering portal magic, Tony attempted to make his suit and reactor resistant to magic. The only idea that seemed viable to Tony was transforming the reactor into a semi-magical state, but lacking any information, he found himself surrounded by books on alchemy and artifact creation in the library. Nicolas, out of curiosity, assisted him as he couldn't find anything else to do.

Meanwhile, Dumbledore and Grindelwald decided to explore the combat magic of this world.

Days passed until one day Odin and the ancient one approached Asmodeus with a request.

"Asmodeus, can you witness an oath?"

"Huh? Well, yes, I can. What are you swearing to?"

"Kamar Taj and Asgard will sign a treaty of mutual defense, as well as open portals from one place to another."

"What!? Why did we suddenly decide to change the status quo, and why such a radical shift?"

"I've been contemplating this for a while, but the imminent end for both me and the ancient one made it difficult to make a decision. However, because of you, I see hope. Even if I die, Thor will take responsibility for the oath. If I survive, Asgard and Kamar Taj will assist each other in their future development, and you will be the bridge between them. Additionally, it will put an end to the uncertainty in the relationship between Asgard and Kamar Taj."

"You do realize I won't be staying in your universe all the time? I won't be able to resolve your disputes..."

"We understand, but we believe that we are not children and can handle disagreements if they arise. Moreover, you will receive a copy of the contract, linked to the main agreement, so that you can communicate with us across the multiverse."

"Alright... Will you just swear, or will you seal the contract with magic?"

"Though I believe in the Ancient one, we decided to create a special agreement for future generations in case we eventually die."

"Alright. I will witness the contract."

Satisfied with Asmodeus' response, Odin nodded. Waving his hand, he drew a rune in the air. The rune emitted sparks of lightning, and in its place, a piece of paper appeared. The parchment looked like an ordinary old sheet, but Asmodeus felt a tremendous amount of mana emanating from it.

Once Odin ensured the parchment was in order, he began speaking.

"I, Odin, son of Bor, swear to maintain friendly relations with Kamar Taj, to go into the future as friends, not enemies. In times of trouble, Asgard will do everything in its power to support the land of wizards!"

While Odin spoke, Asgardian script appeared on the paper.

Seeing that Odin had nothing more to add, the ancient one nodded and recited her part.

"I, Gu Yi, on behalf of the Supreme Sorcerer of Kamar Taj, bind the land of wizards and the dominion of the Protoss of Asgard in friendship for eternity! Kamar Taj and Asgard will now and forever attack and defend together, and in times of misfortune, Kamar Taj pledges to accept any Asgardian!"

"I, Asmodeus Noren Morningstar, bearing witness to this oath, affirm the pure intentions of both parties and commit to helping resolve any disagreements that may arise. As the sole entity capable of terminating the contract until my death, I pledge to be objective and impartial towards either party of the agreement! Let this contract be sealed!"

As the final words fell, the contract divided into three parts and entered the bodies of the signatories.
