Chapter 43: Lockhart
After history of magic, we had defence against the dark arts, we got there a bit early so, we were waiting by the door for the professors. We had DADA with the Gryffindors, so we greeted Seamus Dean and Neville when they arrived.
"You hear what Harry and Ron did?" Asked Dean
"Yup," I said, "we all heard the howler this morning."
"You read any of Gildory's books yet?" Asked Grant; the others shook their heads.
"I read a few paragraphs of each. I think they are well written, but that's about it," I said. "I don't know how we will use them as textbooks."
"Yeah that's what I thought" Grant said.
*flash*, and a bright light illuminated the surroundings. I looked over, and what made the light was the first year Colin Creevey had his camera up, taking a picture of Harry and Lockhart. I rolled my eyes.
"Come along, students, it's time for class," Lockhart smiled a stupid grin as he led us into the class.
Everyone sat down and waited for the professors to start.
"Let me introduce your new defence against the dark arts professor." he picked up a book showing the author's picture of himself. "Me. Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defence League and five times winner of Witch Weekly's Most-Charming-Smile Award – but I don't talk about that. I didn't get rid of the Bandon Banshee by smiling at her!"
'Basically, apart from the smile reward, the other stuff is just fancy things that mean nothing.' I thought to myself.
"We'll start with a little quiz; you will have 30 minutes." Professor Lockhart waved his wand, and the quizzes rushed to the students. "Your time beings now."
I reviewed the 3-page quiz, 54 questions about Gildory Lockhart and his wonderful self.
I answered the ones I knew and then didn't bother answering the rest.
When the half-hour was up, Gilderoy collected and scanned the test.
"I am disappointed; most of you didn't know my favourite colour or when is my birthdate?" Gildory sighed.
"Hmm, Hermione Granger, where Is she?" gilderoy looked over the crowd. "Ah, full marks, Hermione, and take ten points for Gryffindor."
"Now onto business" professor said as he tabed a cloth covered cage with his wand.
"Now, I must ask you not to scream, for it might provoke them." Gilderoy threw the cloth off the cage to show a group of Cornish pixies going mental inside.
"Freshly caught Cornish pixies," the professor said in a smug tone."they can be tricky little devils; let's see what you make of them." Then he let loose the pixies. All hell broke loose; the pixies actively destroyed the classroom. Two went for Neville, but he used his book to batter them away. The bell rang shortly after, and people made a mad dash to exit, including the professors. "I'll let you four clear it up." I looked around. Grant and Tim had escaped, but I was now stuck in the room with Harry, Ron and Hermione. Sighing, I pulled out my wand. Humming a song, I cast the spell <Immobulus>. The song I hummed was part of my sing-a-long collection ●, Livin' On a Prayer by Bon Jovi ● I found the songs that make people want to sing them make an area of effect, so now the pixies just floated.
"Okay, grab them," I said. "I'm going go, got a meeting to go to" I said and left the classroom.
I caught up to my friends at Madame Hooch's office. Inside the office were Madame Hooch, the quidditch captains and my friends. "Now we are all here. Let's get down to business." Madame Hooch said. "The speed quidditch tournament," the captains seemed excited.
"Four new teams, that need at least one person from each house" madame hooch said.
"Wait, what?" The Slytherin captain said.
"Yes this not going to be a inter house tournament, it's going to be mixed teams" madame hooch said.
"Now, if any of you captains want to captain one of. The new teams you can, but you will have to drop out of the traditional quidditch tournament," she continues. "Otherwise, we will get your suggestions for captains."
"What are the team names?" Woods asked.
Madame Hooch turned to us.
"Their based on magical creatures that can be found in the forbiddenforest, the Nifflers, the Acromantulas, the Hypogryphs and the Thestrals" I explained.
There was a lot of back and forth till we finally had 4 nominations for captains. Madame Hooch said she would contact them and do a drawing for who gets what team. Then, all students beyond the first year will be able to sign up for any team.
Me and my friends were allowed to go, and we headed to classroom 1-15 because there was still 1/2 hour till dinner. We hung out and talked about our holidays. I still hadn't gotten Grant or Tim to spill the beans on their summer love, but there was still time.
At dinner, Dumbledore announced the speed quidditch tournament and when trials for positions would be, which was in 2 weeks.
