Chapter 3: Young Girl

Holly's eyes lit up with the thought of another human. Papyrus held a small child with long brown hair. She wore a pink cotton dress and a blue butterfly hair clip. Her limp arm hung from the skeleton's grasp.

"I FIGURED YOU'D WANT TO ADD HER TO YOUR COLLECTION" He spat.

"funny ain't ya bro? but where can she…" Sans started.

"She can take the bed." Holly interrupted, getting up off the bed.

Her black clothing was creased and cut in a reas and the new gloves hid any form of colour range except her face.

"um… ok? you sure?" he said.

She nodded and sat down on the carpeted floor. Papyrus placed the new girl on the bed then quicly left, clanking at Holly. He clearly hadn't changed after death.

"don't take it personally, kid." Sans said, "pap won't live you killing him down."

He tucked the child in.

"i'm going to grillby's, you keep an eye socket on her, k?"

She nodded again.

. . .

"Hm?"

Holly looked up, it was the girl. She had woken up and was looking around at the surrounding, a bit like what Holly herself had done in this strange world.

"Gmornin', are you okay?" She smiled.

"Um… where am I?" the girl said, finally spotting the picture, "Why… why do you have pictures of dressed up skeletons in your house?"

"Ain't my house and, they ain't just dressed up skeletons," she laughed, "Call me crazy but they're actually living 'monsters'. That's Sans and that's Papyrus, Sans'll be back soon to say hello to you, his bro Pap rescued you when you fell. I fell too…"

The little child looked at Holly fearfully, "But… my mum said monsters don't exist, that they were just in my imagination. Why are you pretending?"

"I ain't pretending, don't worry, you'll see. Look out the window for proof they're real." Holly said kindly, opening the curtains a little so a small gap of light shone through.

Whilst the girl stared out in horror, Holly continued, "So what's your name? I'm Holly."

"I-I'm Lucy…" she whispered, "Um… why are you wearing gloves indoors? I was told that was naughty unless it was winter where it was snowing."

"Well, I kinda saved one of those skeleton's lives and in the attempt, it burnt the skin off my hand and well, that ain't a pretty picture to look at so it's probably better without it being shown. Don't worry, there isn't any blood, it's just bone, that's all." Holly slightly revealed a bit of her hand.

The girl sat up in shock.

"Anyways, you can sit here and watch the world go by, imma just sleep again. I'm tired, I've had a long few days." She yawned, "Cya later Lucy."

. . .

She woke up again to a knife, it wasn't as sharp as the last one but still had the ability to cause damage, "You… You're a monster too…" Lucy whispered, her arm shaking in fear

"Uh… Trust me I'm not, just put the knife down okay?" Holly replied, calming herself as well as the little girl.

"I'll… I'll kill you… You won't touch me!" She said.

Holly realized what was happening. The Lucy thought that the monsters were going to kill her so she was intending on stopping them before they had a chance. She took too long thinking and the girl made a slash at her. It cut Holly's left arm.

"Ow, no thank you." She said, making a grab for the knife. It cut her arm but she didn't care.

The door opened, "holly, what's happening? why are you bleeding? did the kid hurt you?"

It was Sans.

"Please don't hurt her, I'm going to calm her down." Holly said, the knife blade in her hand.

"Get off it!" Lucy screamed, in tears.

Sans tried to come over but Holly stopped him, "No, just let me."

She placed her right hand on the child's shoulder, "Calm… We are going to get you out of here. If you really want to go, there is an exit, you can go through that. Just let go of the knife."

Lucy stopped shaking. It was clear that she didn't know what to do. After a while of waiting, she let go of the dagger.

"Thank you" Holly said, gripping the rest of it and placing it back on the side table.

Sans stared at her in awe. How could a human sort out this situation without death or major, perhaps permanent damage? Humans were supposed to be fierce heartless creatures, why wasn't Holly? He looked at her soul, kindness, that explains a lot. But still, wouldn't she still have some need for self-defence? He dropped the thought and said, "We should probably get her back through the exit, once she goes through, it will close."

Holly nodded and began hugging Lucy in order the comfort her.

. . .

They all stood by the barrier; Holly, Sans, Papyrus and Lucy. The young girl stood next to the shining light and stared at it. She looked back and waved goodbye then ran through.
