Chapter 65: Monster Hierarchy (2)

...

If the monsters in the fourth section have already made Icarus feel that way.

There is no need to mention how dangerous the monsters presents in the other three sections are.

The third section is exactly in the middle of the lake, different from the fourth and fifth, it has a tiny population, having about a thousand monsters.

Despite the small number, Icarus has no doubt that these monsters are much stronger than any he has ever encountered.

As for the second and the first section, they are the ones that occupy more space of the lake and even so, they are the ones that have less monsters.

The second section has about a hundred monsters, every one of them lying very far from each other.

As for the first section has even fewer monsters, having a measly ten, these ten monsters occupy the largest space on the lake, being directly below the waterfalls.

However, even though the two sections have fewer monsters, these two sections are still the ones that made Icarus most uncomfortable.

While looking at the monsters present on the third, fourth and fifth sections, Icarus had three different reactions.

The first reaction was to be unconcerned, because these monsters were not dangerous.

The second reaction was to fight, when looking at certain monsters he felt a certain urgency to challenge these monsters.

Finally, the last reaction was to be afraid; some monsters made Icarus freeze for a second followed by an almost uncontrollable urge to walk away from them.

This fear was nothing like Icarus has ever felt before, it was not a rational fear like the fear of getting hurt or the fear of feeling pain, and instead it seemed to be a more primitive fear, that was embedded in Icarus' genes.

The first reaction occurred only in the fifth section, while the other two reactions occurred in the third, fourth and fifth sections.

Having personally experienced this, Icarus decided to prepare himself a little before looking at the second and first sections.

He did this because he feared that when he looked at these monsters, fear would take control of his body and force him to flee, if it were just that he wouldn't mind.

After all, in his past life there were thousands of times that Icarus did not hesitate a second to run for his life.

What he really feared is losing the control of his body, like what happened when his hunger took complete control of his body.

He detested that feeling and never didn't want to feel that again

"I don't feel like being a puppet for anyone in this life! Not even of my instincts!"

With that in mind, he spent almost thirty minutes preparing himself mentally, so as not to give in to fear.

However, all of this preparation was completely useless, as different from what he expected when he looked at the second section, he not only felt no desire to fight or fear and in fact, he felt nothing.

For the first time since he gained Monnct's instincts, Icarus felt nothing when looking at a monster.

When that happened, Icarus was intrigued by the reason for this for a while, but soon a frightening thought ran through his mind.

"M,maybe... these monsters are so strong that I'm not even able to estimate their strength. Consequently, as I don't know their strength, Monnct's instincts don't know what reaction I should have. Sigh! It's like they say, sometimes ignorance is a bliss!"

After realizing how weak he really is and how easy it is for he to die around here, instead of feeling sad Icarus feels very excited

'Although currently, I am very weak and I am at the bottom of the hierarchy of this place, I will not be upset. After all, when I arrived in hell, the first thing that stupid Henchman Number 6 said to me was that I was too weak to survive there and that in just a few days I would end up being killed by others. Huehue... these comments clearly only showed how limited his vision was on that time! After all, in the end, not only did I survive for more than ten years on the hell, as I also became the strongest around there!'

With that in mind, Icarus starts to observe the monsters around him while absently chatting to himself

"Hmm... It hasn't been long since I arrived in this world. Being sincere, I didn't do anything very interesting during that time; to tell you the truth I don't even have many goals. Of course, building my house and getting closer to those cute puppies are still goals to be achieved. However, neither of these seems to me a difficult goal, in fact, all I need to achieve them is a little bit of time and patience.

Therefore, so far, I don't really have a goal that is really difficult to achieve. Well, that was until now... After all, climb the food chain to the top"

Icarus slowly shifts his vision to the first section, and as he smiles wildly, he says

"That seems like an excellent challenge to me!"

Right after that, Icarus 'body involuntarily begins to emanate an aura that aura surrounds the environment around it covering a small portion of the fifth section – that aura is the Icarus' will to become stronger!

This will is intangible and colorless, despite that fact, all the beings involved by this will, can still feel its presence.

The monsters present in the fifth section, show different reactions, when they are forced to confront Icarus' desire to become stronger.

The monsters weaker than him start to tremble with fear and quickly look away from him, as if they feared to be his next victims.

The monsters with a similar level of strength, completely stop what they were doing, enter the combat position and begin to stare at him full of restlessness, as if they were about to face a difficult opponent.

As for the monsters stronger than him, who previously completely ignored his existence, don't make much of a fuss about it; they just slowly turn their attention to him and start to watch at him with interest, as if they were ready to see a good show.

Realizing how tense the air around him has become, Icarus finally realizes what is going on around him, so he stops smiling and quickly suppresses his aura.

"Oops! It seems that unintentionally I let my intentions show on my face, I mean, on my aura! Tsk! As a professional swindler I shouldn't make an amateur mistake like that!"

After saying that, he sticks out his tongue trying to look cute

"Anyway! I hope everyone can turn a blind eye to this my little mistake! Tee-hee!"

All the monsters: "..."
