Chapter 21: Hogwarts (1/2)

The halls of Hogwarts were louder than ever. Gossips echoing through the place, spreading like wildfire and with no clear signs of stopping anytime soon.

Hogwarts was rarely in such a state, after all it was not a common sight to witness students of every house gossiping with one another.

Especially for Slytherins and Gryffindors. And even weirder was to witness the Ravenclaw students not sticking their faces inside a book but actively taking part in conversations.

And the topic of such gossip?

"Sebastian Slytherin!"

Gasps could be heard in the large hall as the continuous gossip came to a sudden halt with the entry of a single boy.

One with hair darker than a raven and eyes brighter than emeralds.

He was the picture perfect description of a royal –of a Slytherin.

"Is it him?"

"Of course it is him!"

It was an astounding sight to witness a boy who had barely completed the first decade of his life enticing such reactions from the crowd.

"That is the Slytherin robe!"

"He is in Slytherin!"

It was even more impressive when the children with such reactions were children from noble and famous houses. Not even Harry's sorting had such a reaction within the crowd.

"Of course, he is in Slytherin…" A red haired boy mumbled under his breath, "He is the 'heir' of Slytherin dimwits."

"You would not want the professors to hear such crude words, Ron." Hermoine reprimanded with a disapproving frown, yet not necessarily denying his words.

"Is he truly the Slytherin heir?" Harry asked, baffled at the fact that there was a boy from a family whose name was used to name an entire house of Hogwarts.

Most found it difficult to believe that there was a Slytherin heir that was still alive.

While the rest did not care whether it was a true heir or not. They only cared about approaching the heir.

"Crabbe and Goyle, do not let any other person meet the Slytherin heir before me." The one to say this was the heir of the Malfoys –Draco Malfoy. "Father has ordered me to befriend Sebastian."

Crabbe and Goyle were the followers of Draco, mostly because of orders similar to the one made by Lucius Malfoy.

Just in their case, it was to befriend Draco.

"I believe quite a few of you have already heard of the recent events." Finally, the crowd stabilized a little as Dumbledore decided to speak. "This year can be said to be an incredible year for Hogwarts."

The headmaster smiled and looked around, "We are blessed to witness such talented and motivated witches and wizards joining our school." He said with pride, "Children from ancient and noble families, children from the non-magical worlds who possess magic on par with the prodigies of wizarding families. Talents from all of Europe and some even beyond."

It was true that most of Hogwarts' population was witches and wizards from Europe, but there were people who were outside of the continent.

"And just when we thought that we had acquired all the talents that could be acquired… we were proven wrong." He showed a grandfatherly smile. "I am glad to announce that this year, we have another talented wizard joining us."

He slowly turned to look at the raven haired boy standing at the corner, next to Snape.

"While it is unfortunate that he could not join us during the sorting ceremony, we did manage to arrange a small sorting ceremony for him." He explained, "And through it, we were able to add a new wizard to the house of Slytherin."

Dumbledore looked straight, "So, please welcome him with a round of warm applause." He signaled the boy to walk forward. "The heir of the ancient and noble house of Slytherin, Sebastian Slytherin."

And right at the moment, Dumbledore heard applause and gasps grander than anything he had heard in a long time.

'This… might be a bit more than what I bargained for.' Sebastian mused, looking at the massive crowd nearly bursting his ears with the sound of applause and howls.

'They are savages…' He concluded at the lack of poise, while wondering. 'Was such an introduction necessary?'

But he knew the reason.

"Are you really the Slytherin heir?!"

The loud yell stopped the applause as the crowd looked at the one who asked the question.

It was a lanky boy, one with freckles all over his face.

'Of course.' Sebastian knew why Dumbledore decided to let his introduction be at such a large scale.

It was simply so that such questions could be answered all at once.

"Well…" Sebastian walked forward, standing on the magically enchanted podium that Dumbledore stood at previously. "Firstly, good morning everyone. I hope you are enjoying this lovely morning."

He smiled, quite enjoying the morning. He found it rather pleasant as it wasn't as cold as the past few days.

"I am Sebastian Slytherin, the current heir and lord of the most ancient and most noble house of Slytherin." He kept his confident smile, "I have not yet officially taken the position of the lord, but to answer your question, yes I am the heir of the house of Slytherin."

"How can you prove it?"

The question of the boy made the audience gasp.

It was the same boy which made Sebastian's lip curl up.

"Before that, may I ask for your name?" Sebastian asked, quite amazed at the boy's bravery. "It is not everyday I see someone be so vocal about their doubts, especially in front of noble families."

Sebastian already knew that the boy was not pure blood. He knew that no pure blood wizard would be so bold and blunt to ask such a question, after all he had seen how pure bloods were.

They were far too cynical and plotting, and none of them would publicly take the risk of asking such questions.

Especially when there was a chance of potentially ruining an opportunity.

"Andrew James." The boy replied, proving Sebastian's assumption.

Now, Sebastian did not dislike mudbloods. He knew his grandfather despised them and he also knew the reason.

But he did not find any reason to go after wizards of such blood, mostly because his grandfather's reason was not something that he had to follow.

"Well then, Andrew James." He said, "There are quite a few ways that I can prove it with. But most of it includes showcasing magic that is strictly of the Slytherin heritage."

This statement made not just the students but quite a few of the teachers interested as well.

After all, when was the last time they saw an ancient magic, especially one of the Slytherin heritage?

Never.

"But unfortunately, the rules prevent me from using such magic unless it is required in a class or it is a duel that has been approved by the school." He grinned, "And as much as I am willing to duel, I do believe that you neither have the training nor the knowledge to face me in a duel."

Cocky, he was being extremely cocky. But he had every right to do so.

He was the Slytherin heir and pride was an inherited trait. But above all else, he did not want to look like a pushover who simply did what was asked of him.

"And for me to use magic of such caliber," He said, "You have not given me any reason or cause of value to waste my time on a duel."

Was he being too petty? Of course, he was. But he was someone who believed in earning respect.

And while the boy did earn a little respect by asking him the question, it was still not enough to engage in a duel.

"But of course, all of you will have plenty of time to witness the Slytherin magic as we study together." He was confident, something that most students lacked when asked to speak in front of such a massive crowd.

The boy, Andrew, went silent while the crowd around him bursted into whispers.

"Silence!" Professor McGonagall yelled, putting to the noises.

"Now, I know you all have a lot of questions regarding my story." Sebastian saw the entire crowd nodding, "And while it is quite a tale, it is also awfully long. So, I will not be going into details for now, just know that the name Slytherin might have fallen, but I will revive it back to the fame it once held."

He looked at Snape and smiled.

"And while doing that, I will also try to do as much as I can for the house of Slytherin of Hogwarts." He announced, "I will do my best to make the House of Slytherin the best house."

After all, Slytherin was not a name that could ever be anything but the greatest.
