Chapter 43: C41: 12 Grimmauld Place

12 Grimmauld Place | 3rd July 1986 | 4 PM
Sirius Black and the Potter brothers stood in front of a townhouse. This townhouse was very od, though none of the residents noticed it. The numbering was messed up - the numbers went on till 11, but then skipped 12 and continued from 13. Charlus didn't notice this, but as they were walking from the 1st townhouse, Harry had started counting the numbers and was confused when he couldn't find the number 12.
Sirius smiled and took out a small paper slip and handed it to Charlus. Chalrus took the slip and read it out loud.
"Sirius Black owns 12 Grimmauld Place."
He looked at Sirius and said, "This is your place? I thought we were coming to visit someone."
Harry was more concerned with the confusing scene in front of him.
"Padfoot. Your house appeared."
Charlus looked back and saw that 12 Grimmauld Place was right in front of him. He couldn't believe his eyes. He had seen clearly that there was a white coloured and cream coloured building side-by-side. But now he could see a brown building right in the middle, which he didn't remember.
Sirius didn't answer their confusion and led them inside. They were greeted immediately by a red-haired lady.
"You are here! That's wonderful!"
She ignored everyone and looked directly at Harry.
"You must be Harry right?" When Harry nodded, she brought her hands near his cheeks and squeezed them tightly. "Well aren't you a cutie. You look just like your father. And Sirius, I just can't say how lovely it was for you to donate your house to the Order. It's nice you are finally playing your part."
Sirius coughed and said, "I'm not donating the building. I'm just letting you use it for this summer. After that, I'm burning this place to the ground. Too many bad memories of this place."
Molly showed her displeasure immediately. "I don't think Headmaster Dumbledore will be happy about that. Think about it Sirius, we can do a lot with this house. We can host all our meetings here."
Sirius took Charlus and Harry inside while saying, "Don't worry about Dumbledore. I'm going to have him there when I raze the place. Who knows what dark artefacts dear ol' mum had in this hell hole."
Sirius led the two inside the house. The front door opened into a long hallway, lit with gas lamps and a large overhead chandelier. On one side of the hallway was the dining room, which featured a dresser holding the Black family crest and china. The dining room contained a long wooden table with chairs and hanging light fixtures.
A door at the far end of the entry hall and a set of narrow stone stairs led to the basement and the house's kitchen. At the end of the entrance hall, facing the door, a grand staircase led to the upper floors.
Sirius was very surprised at how good a job the Order had done in cleaning the place up. he could remember how gloomy the place was, and while it still was gloomy, the atmosphere was nowhere near how depressing it was before.
He took the kids to the 3rd floor and pointed to one of the bedrooms. "You have to share that room. Put your stuff and go to the dining room. There will be a lot of kids here, including Neville. Make sure you make friends with them. Now off you go. And don't involve me in any of your pranks."
He pushed the two into the room and when they looked back, they couldn't find their godfather. They put their stuff on the bed and walked out of the room. They were immediately greeted by two red-haired brothers. The brothers looked like perfect copies of each other.
"Hiya."
"He's Fred."
"And he's George."
"We are."
"Twins."
"Nice to meet ya."
They were trying to finish each other's sentences and were having minor success.
"We heard."
"The word."
"Pranking!"
"And we wanted."
"To see who."
"Was the one."
"Who said it."
Charlus and Harry were very surprised at how well the twins were co-ordinating. Harry replied, "Padfoot. He said not to prank him, but to prank everybody else."
The twins were very intrigued.
"What's your."
"Name?"
Harry giggled and said, "Harry."
"Well, Harry."
"How about."
"You, and maybe."
"Your brother."
"Prank this."
"Padfoot?"
Charlus immediately said, "You can prank. I'll just watch."
Harry on the other hand was very interested. He said, "Okay. I have a lot of stuff I bought at Jonko's. Want to try?"
The twins were surprised. They knew what Zonko's was, but they also knew it was very expensive and that no parent allowed their children to be there. They wanted to see what Harry had, so they followed Harry back to the room Surius gave them to see the Joke products.
Charlus left them and explored the house. He saw the stairs and climbed them to the fourth floor. He saw that there were two rooms opposite each other, contrary to the three rooms on the third floor. He went to the doors and saw that they were marked.
"Do Not Enter Without the Express Permission of Regulus Arcturus Black"
"Do Not Enter Without the Express Permission of Sirius Black III"
Charlus tried to open the door to Regulus' room but it wouldn't budge. He tried to push it open when a pair of arms pulled him back.
"Don't try to touch anything in this house Charlus. This place is full of dark objects. There are many curses so be careful."
His godfather warned him and then turned to his room. He went inside but didn't close the door properly. Charlus peered through the small gap the door created with the wall and looked at Sirius' room. The room was filled with red and gold colours and banners, and posters of Muggle motorbikes and bikini-clad girls.
Charlus sighed and turned away. He shouldn't have expected much from his godfather.
