Chapter 13: Chapter 10: Plight of the poor

{authors announcement:

Starting today i will be striving to release 5 chapters a week.

Thank you all for continued support}

Obviously i couldnt just rush down the mountain and directly bolt for the Lords solar. That was the fastest way to get caught, probably tortured, and killed.

After thinking for a hot minute about the objectives of the quest i kept in mind that there wasn't a specific time limit for accomplishing these goals, i could take it slow and steady to gain information.

Well the best place to start would be just gathering broad information, and i think i knew the best place to get it too. The eyrie was a little tough to approach first due to the bloody gates. Plus the fact that i couldn't just swoop in from above, as i would probably be spotted.

So i began to concoct my genius plan. Id go to a more approachable settlement. I knew just the place. It was south east of where i was now. It is located in a fine natural harbor at the northern tip of the Bay of Crabs. It was also the largest settlement in the vale, so even though i would stand out slightly due to my clothes, it would be easier to blend in due to the larger population.

We decided to leave at dusk, hoping to arrive right as the sun set. That way we would be able to stay for the most part undetected.

As I soared through the sky on the back of my trusty Gronckle, I kept a vigilant eye on our surroundings. We were trying to be covert ,flying from the Giants Lance to Gulltown although much less populated due to the terrain, i couldn't emphasize how badly we needed to avoid being spotted so stealth was paramount. My Gronckle was a sturdy and reliable dragon, perfect for this kind of mission.

Thorn's leathery wings beat rhythmically as we moved over the rugged terrain, keeping low to the ground to avoid detection. We weaved through narrow canyons and soared over dense forests, making sure to stay hidden from any prying eyes. The wind whipped against my face as I gripped Ironhides side tightly, my eyes scanning the horizon for any signs of danger.

As we approached Gulltown, I spotted the bustling port city in the distance. It was a hub of activity, with ships coming and going, and people going about their daily business. But I knew that my presence, along with Ironhide, needed to remain a secret for the time being. We couldn't risk revealing ourselves.

We descended toward the far outskirts of Gulltown, keeping to the shadows and avoiding populated areas. Ironhide glided silently, using his keen dragon senses to navigate with precision.

Finally, we reached our destination, a secluded cove where I could safely dock ironhide and hide him from view. We landed softly, and I patted his rough hide, thanking him for his incredible flying and stealthy approach. He grunted in acknowledgment, his eyes gleaming with intelligence.

I made sure ironhide was settled, assuring him i wouldnt be gone for longer then a day and a half and told him to remain hidden before making my way towards Gulltown on foot.

Luckily the distance wasn't to great, but it was still an annoying endeavor. After traveling for quite some time, i finally made it to this large settlement. By this time night had fallen, and not much of the city could be seen with the naked eye.

|3rd person POV|

As Bryce made his way towards the western gate of Gulltown, the guards on duty took notice of him. The moonlight cast shadows on his figure, adding an air of mystery to his presence. The guard on duty, a burly man with a stern expression, stepped forward to intercept Bryce.

Guard "Halt! Who goes there?"

"I mean no harm," Bryce replied, his voice calm and steady. "I am Bryce Emberwood, a traveler passing through. I apologize for arriving at night, but I have urgent business in Gulltown."

The guard narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Bryce. "Why are you arriving at Gulltown under the cover of darkness Mr. Emberwood? It's not a common sight for travelers to arrive at night."

Bryce understood the guard's suspicion and quickly explained, "I arrived at night as I was traveling to avoid the scorching sun during the day. I assure you, I mean no harm and have no ill intentions."

The guard crossed his arms, still eyeing Bryce suspiciously. "Hmm, traveling without an entourage is not something see very often in Gulltown. What is your purpose in the city?"

Bryce maintained his composure, answering confidently, "I understand your concern, but I am simply passing through Gulltown on my way to a distant destination. I have no business in the city and pose no threat. I am just a weary traveler seeking shelter for the night."

The guard continued to scrutinize Bryce, his stern expression unchanging. He must have been running a few considerations through his mind, seeing a stranger arrive so late at night and wearing such noble attire. After a moment of silence, he spoke again. "Very well. But you must understand that arriving at night under these circumstances do raise suspicion . You will need adhere to the city laws strictly. Failure to do so may result in severe consequences."

"Understood," Bryce nodded, relieved that he was allowed to enter. "I will comply with the city's regulations. Thank you for your understanding good sir."

With that, the guard stepped aside, allowing Bryce to pass through the gates and enter Gulltown.

Bryce took a step into Gulltown, grateful for the guard's permission to enter. He looked around, taking in the sights of the city. The guard, still keeping a watchful eye on him, noticed Bryce's hesitation.

Guard "Is there something else you need, Mr. Emberwood?"

"Yes, thank you," Bryce replied politely. "I was wondering if you could direct me to the nearest inn within the city walls. I am in need of a place to rest for the night."

The guard nodded, pointing towards the direction of the city center. "Certainly. The 'Golden Eagle Inn' is a reputable establishment located just a few streets down that way," he said, pointing towards a well-lit street. "You can't miss it. It's one of the most prominent inns in Gulltown."

"Thank you," Bryce said with a nod of appreciation. "I appreciate your assistance. I will head there straight away."

Guard: The guard nodded, relaxing his stance slightly. "You're welcome. Have a pleasant stay in Gulltown."

"I will, thank you," Bryce replied, and with a nod of farewell, he made his way towards the 'Golden Eagle Inn,' following the guard's directions. He was relieved to have a place to rest for the night.

|3rd person POV Ends|

After arriving at the destination that guard had pointed me towards, i quickly realized that i had made a grave miscalculation. By this worlds standards, i was poor. I didn't have a single copper to my name.

Standing outside the inn, feeling like a complete idiot, i sudden heard a cry for help nearby. It was almost certainly the cry of a fair maiden. How cliche.

Stealthily making my way towards a nearby alley, the sound started to get louder. Peering into the dark area, i could see a young lady, couldn't be more then 20, pushed up against a wall as a disgusting man, about 5 foot 9 roughly handled her and ripped at her clothes, groping her with his disgusting pudgy sausage fingers. She was vehemently trying to escape, and his intentions were clear as day. Rape.

I knew that i should've prepared myself and probably steeled myself for seeing these types of thing, concerning the world i was now in, but i sure as hell wasn't about to let this slide while i could see it with my own eyes.

Reaching into my inventory i grab the reinforced dragon-glass dagger i had gotten from the starter chest. I held the obsidian dagger in my hand, admiring its dark, glistening blade. It was a rare weapon that was for sure, but i didn't have the the time to marvel at its details.

I softly sped towards the assailants rear, trying my best to not alert him to my presence. Luckily more me, this new body seemed to be quite dexterous, and brimming with muscle.

I hastily got in close, and with precision i put my hand on his mouth with the obsidian blade pressing against his neck and he froze.

Deciding to go with the words of one of the most badass characters on tv, i got close to his ears and spoke in a voice audible enough for him to hear, "I will cutoff both your arms, and then both of your legs, and i will cutoff your face right off your head. You will be this armless, legless, faceless thing, won't you? Rolling down the street like a turd in the wind."

He seemed to almost crap his pants at those words, his lusting expression completely wiped from his face now.

I speak up again, "Is this really what you want, or will you follow my advice and disappear from my sight."

Not allowing him to turn around and see my face i say in a louder more vicious tone, "Use your tongue or lose it" to this he finally responds "y-y-you won't ever see me again, i swear it by the old gods and new."

Pushing him towards the exit of the alley he begins to run like a hellhound was chasing him. With one thought running through his mind. 'Fuck this shit, ill become a fisherman.'

(Skill gained: intimidation ;) lol)

Watching him disappear into the darkness, my attention was drawn to the young lady in front of me.
