Chapter 5: Bear with me...
Another day later, at Raoul mountain, I take deep breath and activate my Ren, my eyes focused on the mama bear. She darted to the side, attempting to hit my flank as I rolled under her, jabbing my knife deep into its leg.
It screamed in agony, flailing wildly at me, missing me by a wide margin as I stepped aside and walked over to where the newborn cubs were.
"Oh! You are so adorable! You little soot ball. Come here." I cooed at the furry little ball of bear and made my way back to the ship to the background weeping moans of mama bear. I almost felt sorry for it, but, it attacked me first. Not that I stole all of its children. It still had 2 more of its cubs right there and statistically only one of them survives till adulthood, so really I was doing it a favor by saving its child from a cruel, gruesome death.
I looked back at the now fallen bear and saw it glaring at me with the fury of a thousand suns.
"Hey now mama-san, don't look at me like that. I'm helping you. In fact you, fat lady should be thanking me. I'm sure if it was Ging here instead of me, he'd stolen all your cubs from you for one of his dubious 'wildlife preserves'. You should be grateful to whatever Bear sky daddy you got that I only injured you." I say.
Eh, whatever. Who am I accountable to ?
I climbed back onto the ship and left behind the mountain. Soon we passed over the Mimbo republic and landed onto the Arena helipad.
As I descended the ramparts, an attendant came over, handing me a package from Battera enterprises.
The debit card. He didn't go back on his word huh? Nice.
"How do I enlist as a participant?" I asked the attendant.
"Just go down to the ground floor and enlist at the reception desk." She answered.
"Thanks." I said and turned back, signalling the pilot to go back and entered the building proper.
On the ground floor, I called out to the reception desk and enlisted into the tournament.
"Is there a tailor in the premises?" I asked handing back my enlistment form.
"Yes. You'll find one on the 53rd floor. Take the elevator to your left." She replied.
"Thanks." I said and entered the elevator.
"Hold it. Hold on please." A man called out just as the door closed.
I pressed the door open button and in he walked with a young boy following shortly after. He looked strangely familiar. I had seen that goatee somewhere and the boy's dead cat eyes. Then suddenly the boy's fingernails extended out as he began cleaning them with a q-tip.
And now it clicked into place. No wonder they look familiar. It's Illumi Zoldyck and his butler. I almost didn't recognize them, what with them being younger and less gloomy.
Illumi turned to look at me and I realized I was staring at him. I frantically shot out an explanation.
"I was just looking at your nails. They're so cool! I'm not a weirdo or anything." I replied, flustered.
Illumi gave a light chuckle as my floor came up.
"Your bear is very cute too." He replied.
I dashed out as soon as the doors opened, then turned around and bowed in apology.
Who knew what these psychopaths would do if they got angry? I'm not strong enough to survive a fight with them. They just gave me an awkward smile as the elevator moved on.
Once I knew that they had moved on, I let out a sigh of relief.
Could've almost died back there!
Now calmed, I looked around for the tailor and spotted the shop in the corner.
Entering the shop I was greeted by the pleasant smell of fresh lavender and sandalwood.
Mhmmm.....
I took a deep sniff as an attendant walked up to me, looking as if to kick me out.
"Kid, are you lost? This isn't a shop for people like you."
I looked down at my clothes, now in tatters from my fight with the bear and the climbing and such.
"Huh?! No. I have money." I say, showing him my platinum executive debit card.
"Oh! Sorry about that sir. Right this way!" He said.
What a 180 degrees heel turn. Jackass.
I followed him into a seating area and laid out my request.
"I want a cloak made out of spider eagle silk. I have the material here." I said and unwrapped the silk from my body.
"Make sure that cloak is warm and the size of an adult me." I added.
"Yes sir. Would you like anything else?"
"Get me two pairs of clothes for now. Also could you escort me to a hotel. I need to arrange some accomodations."
"Sure sir. Just a minute."
Once I had paid for the clothes and room, I retired for the night. Tomorrow I was going to be in my first real fight. I had to be well rested. I kissed my pet bear good night and tucked him in beside me. And then I drifted away from wakefulness.
