Chapter 3: System
A soft laugh could be heard from the other end of the call.
"Silly," She chuckled, "medicine doesn't cure everything, death does."
"..."
"Was that a bad joke?"
"Kind of."
"Medication, more specifically, psychiatric medication don't cure mental illness, but they can often significantly improve symptoms and make other treatments more effective. These 'servants' are still vulnerable to mental illness, though some have carried over from when they were living such as this particular case." Her voice stopped for a moment as she took a breath.
"Remember Lin Yun, true change comes from within. Due to my background, I am more than capable of diagnosing providing the proper medication, including psychiatric ones, but that is the extent of my abilities. The rest, however, can only be brought out by therapists and psychiatrists by healing the emotional wounds through communication. Unfortunately, they were caught in the explosion and as you may know, the world outside of Chaldea might as well not exist at all."
The betrayal of the advisor, Lev Lainur, cost Chaldea 200 lives leaving only 19 staff members alive, with time they managed to recover to 60, they had to spread between Technology Development, Emergency Care, Researcher, Coffin Management, Maintenance, Security, Cooking, Accounting, and a myriad of other occupations. Considering that most of the staff were screened before their recruitment, the priority for the re-establishment of the Mental Wellness division was close to the bottom.
It's easy to forget that these Heroic Spirits, who can tear the skies asunder, can be just as vulnerable as a regular person.
"Now that's where you come in."
"Huh?"
"The therapy part."
"I'm not a trained therapist."
"I know."
"Then how do I play a role in this?"
"Servants... are quite sad," Eirin let out a sigh, "What are servants to you?"
"Beings of legend, or well, most of them are at least."
"Correct. They're symbols, some are even worshipped today, they're quite literally, heroes."
"It's reputation!"
"My, correct once again. Servants have to maintain their reputation as beings who stood out from the others of their time by performing miraculous deeds and possessing qualities that no others possess. When a Servant is in the presence of similar beings, they are obligated to maintain their reputation, some of them even represent their country. Displaying vulnerability makes them less like the grandeur depictions of them but more like humans. Though like all cases, there are many exemptions but this is the general case."
"Okay, so how I am supposed to help?"
"Oh, let them vent to you, talk about their worries, jealousy, depression, really anything. Letting out your emotions is quite cathartic and healing for humans, naturally, if you can help solve what's troubling them then that'd be even better for our goal in this world, but with some people, there is simply no solution."
"Isn't that what their Masters are for?" From the knowledge of the game, gradual progression of the Bond level of Servants would have them talk about their insecurities and other similar topics.
"The first and foremost goal of Masters is to secure humanity's survival into the future, not spend time worrying about the emotional state of their Servants, tell me, my dear, how many Servants do we currently have?"
"Over one hundred and fifty, I don't remember the exact number off the top of my head."
"196 currently with more to come. We have 2 Masters, let's say that they both contract 98 equally. There are 1440 minutes in a day, taking 480 minutes out for sleep, food, and hygiene, that would be 960 minutes, assuming that the Master spends 600 minutes for the preservation of humanity, that'd leave 360 minutes. 360 minutes divided by 98 Servants is 3.67346938776 minutes of communication time per Servant. Even then, this is unrealistic, some Servants have more preferential treatment, which divides the time unevenly."
Upon hearing this, Lin Yun couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. Back in his original world, he only focused on the Servants that appealed to him to be it their personality, looks, or character stats.
'But it's just a game!'
"Every Servant is different, some need more, some need less, how can Masters possibly balance this? The answer is they can't, not everyone can be happy at the same time, sacrifices must be made, which can potentially result in a backlash, such as the jealousy case that is going on right behind you."
Taking a deep breath, he turned over, looking at Minamoto in the room. "I'm terribly sorry, please give me a little bit more time."
The distressed woman only replied with a smile and a slight nod.
"To the others, how do you think Servants would feel if they were asked to save humanity, only to be put in the backline? These are heroes of their time, almost every one of them have immeasurable pride befitting their legends. However, Masters are not babysitters, nor should they be treated like one."
"So are we supposed to be the babysitters?"
"A babysitter is there every second, that is not our job, or more accurately, your job. In the end, they'll be the ones walking, you just follow behind and occasionally correct their paths if they go astray, push them if they stop, and catch them if they trip."
"So regulate as much as we can in the Masters' stead?"
"Well, we can't have them coming back from a Rayshift with their home in absolute ruins right?"
"That..." Lin Yun has had multiple colleagues back in university vent to him before so he wasn't too uncomfortable with the idea, "But this is with people who can wipe out my existence at the snap of a finger, what if they get a little too emotional?"
"You don't need to worry, I was told to give you this, let me find it... Ah, there it is. You should see it any second now."

[Usage: Put on the hat with a ball on the top, the ball will act like an antenna that detects the nearest person that is in trouble or dilemma by 'protruding' in that person's direction.]
[Gourmet Table Cloth]
[Usage: One(or multiple) may simply use the cloth through voice command for the cloth to conjure up food. Is limited to ingredients equal to or below to that of the 21st Century.]
[Sword of Light (Denkomaru)]
[Usage: Grab the sword by the handle and it will act as an automatic parrying weapon as well as doubling as an instant knock-out finisher. It has a built-in sensor that will detect any incoming attacks from weapons equal to or below to that of the 24th Century. The sword will automatically 'deflect' or block the attack if impossible*, nullifying it completely which would result in the attacker. After parrying, Denkomaru will swiftly counteract with near-impossible chances of dodging and/or blocking. Also powered by a battery that lasts only 10 minutes due to it's taxing ultra-compact (REDACTED) computer.
*Due to Denkomaru's combative nature, blocking the attack may result in it breaking, however, it comes with the insurance from (REDACTED), which means that it'd at least deflect/block and counterattack at least once before breaking down.]
