Chapter 2: A Casual Run

I was walking, one foot in front of the other, down the dirt road to the nearest town. The sun hung high in the sky, telling me that I had plenty of time to arrive.

A small clock sat just above the map in the corner of my vision, saying that it was currently 12:54 PM, meaning that I had plenty of time until the sun set.

According to the map, the town was about five miles away from me, and considering my speed, I figure it would take around two and a half hours to get there.

I wonder if there is any way to get there faster? Well, I might as well run for a bit.

With that in mind, I picked up my pace, moving into a nice jogging speed. Strangely, it was rather easy.

I'm not tiring in the slightest, and I can easily keep my breath. What if I run faster?

I pick up my pace once more, moving into a nice running speed. My body still feels perfectly fine, and I still have my breath, even after two full minutes. I don't remember being this fit.

Okay then, time for the real test. A full sprint.

I speed up once more, bringing myself to run as fast as I can. Everything blurred past, but I also saw everything clearly as well.

Wait, I'm not running at a sprint, I'm running even faster than one! In fact, I'm moving as fast as a car could go down a highway!

I could clearly see everything as I was zooming by, my legs a blur, even to me. My arms thrust forward repeatedly, over and over, carrying my body ever forward. How is this possible? I've clearly broken a record for fastest runner in my previous world. The craziest part is that I still don't feel the least bit tired!

I glanced down at the map in the corner of my vision, looking to see how far I have come. Shockingly, in the five minutes I was running, I had traveled four and a half miles! That's even faster than I thought I was going! I quickly slowed my speed, realizing that if I came zooming in at a speed like this, I might scare people.

In an instant, I brought myself to a stop. I didn't even have to put much effort into it, either. It was that easy.

Just how strong am I?

I can feel a gust of wind rush past me as I come to a stop. It was the gust I had created while running. This is impossible, someone shouldn't be this strong.

I put my thoughts to the back of my mind and look around me. The dirt road ran through a lovely field of flowers. There was a flower for every individual color of the rainbow, making for a pretty field to look at. There was a little hill much further off the path and in the middle of the field. No flowers grew on the hill, just grass.

At the very top of the hill sat a large tree that grew far up. Sitting just under the tree was a sleeping boy, who looked to be about fourteen years old. He had dirty blonde hair and freckles on his face. Even from where I was standing, I could make out even the smallest details about him, like how he had exactly forty seven freckles.

How the hell do I know all of this from a single glance in his direction?

As I stared at him, the boy stirred from his sleep, slowly opening his eyes. It was kind of like how I woke up in this world. Sleeping beneath a tree. The boy saw me after taking a few moments to look around. He quickly stood up from where he sat, and began to run towards me. Compared to how fast I was running earlier, this boy was moving at a snail's pace. After a minute, the boy finally made it to me. If I had to describe the distance he just ran, it was like a football field in length.

When he arrived, he was gasping for air, his hands on his knees to keep himself up. It was clear that the short run he just did was fairly exhausting for him. He was about as fast as the average boy from my old world. It was awkward waiting for him to catch his breath. After he did, he began to talk.

"Hello there. My name is Adam, nice to meet you. What is your name?"

My name? I haven't really thought about it. I could use the name I had from my previous life, but I want to start anew in this world. What name should I use?

"My name is Estelle. Nice to meet you."

I only thought for a moment before coming to a decision, but in that moment, I went through dozens of names before picking the one I liked the most.

How did I do that? It was like my thoughts raced forward out of control, except they were in control, and I vividly remember every moment.

"Estelle? What a pretty name. Tell me Estelle, are you from around here?"

"No I'm not. In fact, I'm kind of lost."

This isn't true of course, as I have a map telling me exactly where I was, but he doesn't know that.

"Lost? Well where are you from?"

"A faraway place."

Im not lying, I am from a faraway place. In fact, I'm from another world.

"Well, why don't I take you to the nearby town?"

Well, I could have gotten there by myself, but sure, I wouldn't mind that at all. Besides, I somehow just know that he isn't a bad person, and that he genuinely planned to help. It's like I can just tell that he is a good person.

"I would greatly appreciate that, thanks."
