Chapter 2: Alienated

In elementary school, I was fortunate to have a friend who was always there for me. We would form groups during the game sections and share many happy moments together. As a child, I often dreamed of us remaining best friends forever, but I now realize that this was an unrealistic expectation.

As I grew older, I found myself disappointed when attempts to form new friendships didn't result in the same level of closeness. I used to believe that treating people well was enough to create enduring relationships, but I now see that this is a mistaken belief.

Reflecting on this while sitting on the stairs of my school, I wonder what it must be like for those who are content with being like everyone else. Is it not a wonderful feeling to be accepted and to fit in with the group? While I may not always be able to form lasting friendships, I can still strive to be kind and compassionate towards others, and to appreciate the connections that I do have.
