Chapter 2: Guild

They left the kitchen and went towards the area where the noise was coming from, They entered into a large open room that held many tables and chairs, filled with people all eating or drinking and talking loudly amongst themselves. The round room was lit by a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling that glowed with a soft light.

The other customers did not pay attention to Kayden passing through the crowds of people. He could hear their conversations as they talked about what they had seen on the news earlier today. When he got close enough, he overheard them saying something about a dragon and how it attacked some soldiers nearby.

'Im really in a fantasy world huh?' Kayden thought to himself as he continued to walk past the crowd .

''You should go to the desk on the right, you should be able to apply for a guild card.'' Gemini spoke through telepathy

'But why don't we just leave? I'm sure it's fine.' Kayden said trying to get out of this place situation.

''No! You must also sign up to the guild for proof of identity and such so that they know who you are. Without that, you will never be considered an official resident.'' Gemini said sternly.

Kayden sighed. 'Alright alright, stop being noisy,' he said annoyed.

He turned back to find another route to the desk on the right side of the hall.

A group of men were standing in front of him blocking his path. He tried to move past them but one of them pointed at him.

'Hey! What are you doing here? Go back where you came from!' The man shouted.

Kayden frowned and stared at the man. ''I have no idea what you're talking about.''

''Yeah, right! You're a mixed blood'' The man sneered.

'Gemini, you said normal people should'nt be able to tell im a vampire right? then what is this person talking about.' Kayden asked.

'He probably views you as a half elf half beastman.. its not that its a taboo thing for races but where we are is a mainly human situated city. There are those like this who discriminate against other races.' Gemini explained.

Kayden looked around and realized that the men surrounding him were wearing heavy armor and carried swords. Looked them over and decided to keep his mouth shut. He didn't want to do anything that would cause a fight in this crowded place.

''Oi oi, whats going on here?'' a man came up from behind and placed his hand on Kaydens shoulder.

''What are you doing? Leave him alone, he is not bothering anyone.'' The man said while removing his hand from Kayden's shoulder looking up at the surrounding men.

''Leave us alone, we have no quarrels with you'' One of the men said angrily.

''Who the hell are you?!'' The man yelled back, getting angry at the unknown man's tone of voice.

''My name is Hale, I am the vice guildmaster here. If any harm comes to this boy, I will see to it personally that you are punished for your discriminatory actions.'' The man said calmly while placing his hand on his sword hilt.

''That's enough, leave the child be.'' A woman's voice called out from behind Hale and the man seemed taken aback, startled at seeing her.

Kayden took the opportunity to sneak away from the group of men.

Hale approached the men and forced them to step aside. She walked up to Kayden.

''Are you alright? Did they hurt you?'' she asked worriedly.

''No ma'am. I'm fine. Thank you for helping me. Im only here to sign up I dont want any trouble.'' Kayden replied.

''Its my job to look after people here and if anything happens, I always step in.'' She smiled warmly.

The two exchanged smiles before she guided him to the desk where he could sign up to the guild and handed the task over to Hale.

''Who was that?'' Kayden asked

''That was Guildmaster Val. She is one of the most powerful members in our guild and has been for a long time. Her magic is very strong and she is skilled with both ranged and melee weapons. She is also an elder so she can use more advanced spells than the rest of us. Don't be brought in by her humble nature, she was a different kinda breed in her adventuring days...'' Hale shuddered and carried on explaining the guild card.

''So, the guild card is basically proof that you belong here. After signing up, you will be given a guild card which shows that you are a part of the guild. This is used to gain access to certain facilities within the city and to prove your identity when buying items or hiring services. You will also be able to buy training equipment from the guild itself. So, without further ado, let's get you signed up'' Hale said and pulled out what looked like a stone tablet.

He began to write something in a fancy script across the surface with his finger and handed it over to Kayden.

''Press your palm over here. it should then show you your information.'' Hale explained.

Kayden did as he was told and pressed his palm over the tablet. It felt cold against his skin and the cool sensation spread throughout his body. He closed his eyes and heard a clunk sound. When he opened his eyes again, his information had appeared.

''Wow...'' Kayden gasped and examined his new cards.

It showed his name, his age, race, sex, titles and much more.

''Is there a way to hide certain information?'' Kayden asked.

''Of course. You can change it to show only basic info with a title or name with your mana and health.'' Hale explained.

Kayden looked down at his information fully displayed

...

He remembered the fantasy games he played as a teenager.

'Doesnt this kinda suck?' he thought.

''Your face doesnt look too good? Aha is it your rank? Of course everyone starts off at F rank before they increase their ranking. Its not the end of the world you will rank up with time. Similarly with your level, the higher your level your mana and health will increase. Most common folk who dont do adventuring tend to be about level 5-10.'' Hale comforted

'Its not just the rank. its everything that sucks.' Kayden thought again.

Gemini sneered 'Heh'

Kayden gave Gemini a glance 'I will bury you in the mud outside'

Gemini made no further sound.

Kayden sighed, seems he was in for the grind.
