Write a reviewI read this book and almost i got stuck to it , the plot is good and rightly paced not too long to be bored and not too fast to not understand what is happening It becomes my favorite book
Had a promising base story with ww1 as the setting but quickly devolved into Communist propaganda as the author have a hatred for businessmen and the industrial complex calling them all as Capitalist who seem to oppress the common man. Not only that they're stupid too Tanks once invented was quickly copied and countered quickly it's why WW1 was such a stalemate everyone was innovating and mass producing everything necessary to fight the war. Why would motorcycles become unsellable when every vehicle was used to fight the war why would a businessman just sell his motorcycle factory for cheap? WW1 was the first modern war where factories played crucial roles factories would be expensive as any civilian factory can be converted into a war factory.
This writer thinks that every country in the world is like china, no democracy and law under authoritarian regime. It become weirds when he tried to portrait in france context. It become more weird since this writer can let go his communism bias to western's conspiracy theory. As a result, It shows some stupidity into story development such as enforce military conscription for underage easily (especially this kid is state's hero and from educated-middle high family) without public outcry or power struggle between aristocrat vis-a-vis farmer vs capitalist. it's too bad actually since it has interesting premise and not many touch this, travel time during world war I. I'm always frustrated with china's writer, it seems they always looked trying to spread their ideological dogma to any novel or manga even though they started with a well premise. If you want to become propagandist to pass china's government screening, please do it more subtle or with common sense.
Very well researched, minor mistakes in translation. Great novel if you can ignore the anti-capitalist propaganda.
