Chapter 1: Chapter 1 - Happenstance

A black fog crept over the horizon and brought with it a faint smell of burnt copper. Dark clouds covered the sky causing the day to turn to night. A hurricane of ash blew in from the east as the mountain tops crumpled.

Solem glanced over his shoulder at the catastrophe. An unknown emotion flashed across his eyes; was it shock, was it regret? Either way there was nothing he could do. Looking down at his hands, which visibly shook, he began to mumble calculations under his breath. As his eyes widened a sense of determination arose from the bottom of his heart.

Though in direct contrast to his face his legs buckled as he fell onto his knees. Suddenly the world began to shake as if something was emerging from the depths of the forgotten. As if taken over by a completely different person Solem glanced into the distance and started speaking in a somber voice, "Solem listen carefully, you must save her. You have to. Don't let her die. And beware the coven!" A sense of regret appeared on his face briefly. If there were any onlookers this scene would have seemed quite peculiar.

After a heartbeat of silence Solem continued, "When you are in the pit, jump into the abyss but keep your eyes closed. When you awaken you don't have long until you must flee. Keep your items hidden or just a glance and they will belong to him." Solem is interrupted as the space near him seems to distort and cracks form in reality. From within the cracks Solem spotted ghastly apparitions and ghostly tentacles made out of plasma. Just looking at them seemed to cause him to reel back in pain and clutch his head.

Struggling against the pain, Solem opened his eyes and watched as the tentacles shot out from the cracks and started consuming the earth. The cracks managed to spread into the sky and formed a web-like pattern. A large pair of eyes formed in the clouds that seemed to belong to a demon. The eyes glared at the world with hatred and sadness. Watching this scene Solem's skin started to crack as blood began to pour from his body.

Gazing at the heavens Solem's eyes began to glow with a holy light as an ethereal hourglass appeared above him. The golden sand stopped flowing as a glorious bell rang out across the world. Solem opened his mouth and started shouting, "This I declare! -The world shall fall alongside the immortal angel as the devil born to kill sheds a tear of blood. When the coven convines in search of the heaven that they forsook, the pure will be sacrificed to open the gates and the traitor who seeks the power of the divine, in a world with no god, will prevail. Five will rise from the ashes, Five will descend from the heavens and with the birth of a second sun the stars will fall, the oceans will run dry, and the blasphemer will reign supreme.- This is what I see and what you will oppose." As Solem finished his speech A demon descended from the sky wreathed in lightning and an abomination arose from the ashes of the mountains.

As the monstrosities clashed in the sky above, a thunderous roar filled the land as the glow in Solem's eyes seemed to consume reality, returning it to the void. With nothing but a once forgotten lullaby echoing betwixt the nothingness.

Solem lurched awake covered in sweat from the nightmare. He was still shivering with fear from the terrifying dream. He was surprised because usually he never had dreams.

As he looked around Solem's stomach suddenly dropped. 'Where the hell am I!' As his eyes adjusted to the darkness around him Solem realized that he was in a claustrophobic container and was tightly strapped to the wall, almost unable to move. The cold metal and rough straps irritated his skin and a slight vibration coursed through his bones. The whole pod seemed to be shaking as if it was moving incredibly fast. Fear grasped at his heart for he didn't have any clue as to what was going on.

A loud bang rang out causing his head to throb. He guessed that the pod probably hit something. This wasn't good. Solem felt the g-force increase greatly possibly due to spinning caused by whatever the pod had hit. If this was true then Solem could conclude that the container was most likely falling. Moments before he was going to try to unfasten the strap but now, if he was currently falling, then that probably wouldn't be the wisest choice.

Closing his eyes Solem didn't sense the speed increasing, he guessed that it had reached terminal velocity already. Looking down at the straps he began to wonder if he would survive the crash. Still confused by whatever situation he had found himself in, Solem glanced around the pod trying to glean whatever information he could. But he found nada. The metal was a dull grey and wrapped around him like a robotic cocoon. The straps were an olive green color and didn't seem like they were made from a human.

Craning his neck to try to get a glance at whatever was behind him was quite difficult but he somehow managed despite not being that flexible. What he saw gave him a little bit of hope of escaping after he landed. It was what seemed to be a solid black door with a bright red handle. On the door a symbol was painted with the same color as the handle. It was similar to an octagon with a spiral flame leading towards the center. 'Is that the symbol of whoever made this container?', he thought to himself.

As he was lost in his thoughts a sudden jolt surged through his body as he was launched forwards barely held in by the straps. A loud bang rang out as immense pain ran through his core. Wincing in pain a strong taste of iron flooded his tongue. Opening his eyes Solem spit out the blood. 'I hope I just bit my tongue and that I haven't acquired any internal injuries.', Solem complained.

"Well I guess I survived the crash!", he laughed. Turning his head he found the buckle to the strap and started freeing himself. Every move he made hurt as he still felt the buzzing in his bones. As he undid the last strap he suddenly fell to the floor super weak. Resting for a second, Solem caught his breath and managed to crawl over to the door.

Standing up he turned the handle and pushed on the door. But it barely moved. His eyes widening, Solem wondered if there was something on the outside blocking the door from opening. Turning the handle again, Solem began to ram himself against the door as hard as he could. The first few times he didn't manage to make any progress but on his fourth try the door swung open as he fell onto the ground.

Blinded by the bright light Solem felt the grass underneath his hands and the warmth of the sun on his back. As his eyes adjusted Solem looked up and saw a peculiar sight.

Four other pods had all crashed and now sat in front of him. In front of one of the pods a tall man with long blond dreads and huge muscles leaned against a crooked tree. He looked very similar to what Solem would describe as a viking.

In front of another pod which seemed to have smoke rising from it a slim looking woman crouched next to a young girl who lay on the ground coughing. The woman seemed to be quite tall and had raven black hair that was cut short to her ears. The young girl who wasn't as slim and instead had a little weight on her, had golden brown curly hair.

Looking at the smoking container Solem turned around and glanced at the pod that he had just crawled out of. Looking at the side of it he noticed a large dent. Putting two and two together Solem supposed that the two pods had collided midair causing him to spin out of control and the other to fill up with smoke. Solem's eyes widened as he realized how lucky he was to not end up like the poor girl. Hopefully she wouldn't end up passing.

Wait a minute didn't he see four other pods. Glancing at the other open container he concluded that it belonged to the woman, but what about the one furthest away. Squinting his eyes, Solem realized the door was still shut tightly. Standing up he nodded at the other two people before limping over to the last pod. Upon arriving at the pod, Solem turned the handle and pulled the door open. Walking inside Solem saw an unconscious person hanging in the straps.

It was a young boy with long black hair, longer than the woman from earlier. He had dark rings under his eyes and a pale complexion. 'He definitely looks like one of them emo kids.', Solem smirked. Suddenly the sound of a bell went off in Solem's head as he stared at the young boy.

Hello wonderfull reader. Thank you for giving this novel a chance. Though this is my first novel I will be posting, I have experimented with defferent stories in the past and have tried to level up my writing game. Although I am no professional I still have a semblance of confidence in the stories I want to tell, and I hope you enjoy my work. Thank you again and have a great day.
