Chapter 2: Meeting Lily (1)
Shane stood there, utterly astonished, as he gazed upon the girl's face.
"How is this even possible?" he wondered aloud.
Pulling out his phone, he compared the avatar of his online girlfriend to the girl standing before him.
"What in the world?" he muttered under his breath.
To his bewilderment, the avatar and the girl shared the exact same face.
He couldn't help but speculate, "Did those scammers use this girl's picture?"
"But how could it be that the same day I acquired her as my online girlfriend, I encountered her in reality too?"
"This coincidence seems too remarkable to be true."
As these thoughts consumed his mind, the girl approached him and halted directly in front.
Despite his inner turmoil, Shane maintained an composed expression in front of her.
"Pardon me," the girl spoke up.
"Yes?" Shane responded, his face remaining neutral.
"Could you kindly step aside? You're blocking the path to the counter."
"Oh, yes, of course," Shane stammered in reply.
Overwhelmed by the sight of the girl, he had momentarily forgotten that he was obstructing the way to the counter.
Shane's mind was in disarray, a chaotic whirlwind of emotions.
Aunt Lin greeted Lily as she emerged from the store room, clutching two bags of migorang ramen noodles.
"How have you been, Lily?" she asked.
"I've been well, Aunt Lin. And yourself?" Lily replied.
"Every day feels the same for my old bones."
Aunt Lin sighed.
"Is there anything else you need?" Lily inquired.
As Aunt Lin and Lily conversed in the background, Shane found himself shocked once again.
"If I recall correctly, my online girlfriend has the same name," he thought out aloud.
"How is this even possible?"
What are the odds of such a coincidence?
Could it be that the claims made by the scam app are true?
Maybe I should spend some money on her to find out.
"But how can I even do that?"
Lost in thought, Shane's phone chimed with a notification.
Curious, he checked his phone and discovered that the notification was from the app.
He decided to open it.
"Congratulations, Shane, on your first interaction with your online girlfriend, Lily," the app announced.
"You have unlocked Lily's background information.
Would you like to read it?"
"How on earth does this app know about my interactions with Lily?" Shane exclaimed.
Gradually, Shane found himself starting to believe in the app.
With a sense of anticipation, he tapped "OK" on his phone.
"Lily, Age 19 years old," the app revealed.
"She possesses a simple and resilient nature, although there lies a hidden sense of inferiority deep within her heart."
"Not too long ago, she achieved admission into the prestigious Wolden University with an impressive score, becoming a source of pride for the orphanage. In addition to her studies, she takes on odd jobs to cover her living expenses, leading a frugal lifestyle in order to save as much money as possible."
"Regularly, she sends her remaining living expenses to the orphanage's teacher, aiming to improve the lives of her fellow brothers and sisters. She is truly a kind and virtuous young woman."
As Shane delved into her background story, he found himself deeply moved by her character.
"She truly is a remarkable individual."
