Chapter 9: Chapter 9: 2 Years Later

Obisos is home to many different landscapes. One of the largest of these is its lush green forests. In a particular forest covered by what seems to be a glass dome, a thunderous roar manages to breakthrough. As the roaring intensifies, a bright yellow light peeks through the trees and shoots towards the source of the noise. Suddenly it becomes quiet again until footsteps are heard getting closer and closer to the edge of the forest. A figure comes from the densely packed trees into the sunlight.

Ace looks up towards the sky as easily walks through the barrier. He seems glad that the sun is high in the sky and continues walking.

'I'm glad I can finally leave this place. Even though I'm happy with how it helped me achieve my current strength, I'm tired of only seeing the faces of beasts.'

For the past year, Ace had been living in a forest filled with magical creatures out for his life. It was the final objective given to him by the system to finish his mission. It ended up taking longer for him near the end due to any beast with a sense of intelligence running away from him. Although they couldn't get far if he decided to chase after them.

Ace opened the MISSIONS section of his system to claim his long-awaited reward.

*FAILURE TO COMPLETE TASK IN UNDER 6 MONTHS WILL RESULT IN NO EXP FOR THE NEXT 20 ENEMIES USER DEFEATS*]

Although the system had only assigned six months, Ace stayed in the forest twice as long. He not only wanted to gain more system points, but he also wanted to make sure his strength was at a level to his liking.

Ace claimed his reward of 12,000 system points and began walking towards the wall he saw when he first entered Obisos assuming it was a town. Not long after he started walking, he heard the voice of his system

[Congratulations young master for the completion of your first mission. Would you like to receive the rewards now?]

[Thank you, system, and no I'll hold off until I settle into the town.]

Although Ace wanted to immediately claim his reward, he set his mind on reaching the town and finding an inn to stay in first. Another thing Ace had held off was checking his status as he hadn't looked at it since it was shown to him. He was excited to see all the progress he had made in these past two years and hurriedly clicked the STATS section.

Ace smirked looking at the progress he had made. Doing daily mediation and exercise for the past year had significantly raised his mana capacity and physical attributes. He also was able to learn different useful techniques for his devil fruit. Ace learned most of the abilities of Kizaru while also improving upon them. Not to mention he came up with two very useful techniques of his own.

Ace began picking up speed as he wanted to get to the town before sunset. Moving at incredibly speeds, Ace reached his destination with plenty of time to spare. He stopped a good distance away from the wall when he noticed guards stationed in front doing security checks. Although he could just phase through the wall or speed past the guards, he decided to wait in line with everyone else to not gain any unwanted attention. Ace got in the back of the line and with nothing better to do, started to observe his surroundings.

The stone wall protecting the town was about 50 meters high with large square holes spaced evenly around the outside. Ace could see giant crossbows and harpoons poking out of the holes with soldiers standing behind said weapons.

'These weapons are not meant for humans. I assume magical beasts attack here often and these defenses are used to stop them.'

Time passed and it was finally Aces turn in line. When the guard noticed Ace and his unusual clothing, he raised his eyebrow but quickly moved on as he had seen plenty of weirdos in his line of work.

"Identification please."

"I apologize but on my long journey here I encountered some monsters. I managed to defeat them but ended up losing my magic bag during the fight and by the time I noticed, I was already too far away to turn back. Is there any way I can get some sort of replacement ID?"

Trying to hide his surprise that the guard spoke English, Ace used the story he came up with earlier to help account for his "lost identification". He had guessed something like this would happen and made sure to hide his magic bag while in line to not give himself away.

"A replacement ID costs a gold coin. If you are unable to pay now you can take a test to gain a new ID. You have 30 days to pay the fee of two gold coins for the new ID and failure to do so will result in imprisonment."

Although Ace could pay for the ID, he wanted to keep his story straight, so he went with the second option. He made up a backstory for himself using his newfound knowledge of Obisos and after plenty of questions, Ace received his ID.

"Welcome to the town of Tarrin."

Ace thanked the guard who greeted him and began his search for an inn. He was desperate for a decent meal and bed. He had only been eating meat from beasts and rations provided by the system for the last two years.

As Ace looked for any sign of an inn, he observed the people and buildings around him. The first thing that caught his eye was the variety of people he saw in the town. There seemed to be elves of different kinds as well as beast folk. Rabbits, zebras, reindeer, and many other unique beast folks happily walked the town's street.

'It seems there isn't any discrimination against other races like in some of the manga I used to read.'

The buildings in Tarrin were old fashioned with vines and plants growing on the outside of some houses. The building that stood out the most was on a hill in front of the wall on the other side. It was more appropriate to call it a castle as it was huge and made of stone. It was up high enough that it felt like the people inside were constantly looking down on you. Ace for some reason felt like the people living there were only trouble and decided to steer clear from the castle.

After searching a good amount Ace managed to find a decent looking inn with the sign "Goat Tavern" hanging above the door. As soon as Ace opened the door, he could see the back of a large person flying straight towards him.
