Chapter 1: I Keep Waking Up to My Wife-I

My name is Nate, just 24 hours ago, I was a normal 17-year-old kid doing typical 17-year-old stuff, but now I have a wife and I am a 26 years old man. How did I end up in this situation? I have no idea.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a regular morning just like any other day; I was in my bed sleeping when I felt a soft sensation on my hand. *BOING* It felt like a soft melon, something round and squishy. I squeezed it again in my half-asleep state.

"Ah!" a voice came. It was more like a moan than an expression of surprise. That moan made my eyes open wide, and what I saw was like some boy's wet dream, a beautiful woman with long blue hair was sleeping beside me. She had a tiny nose and small black mole on her, adding to her beauty. I was so mesmerized by her charms that I forgot about the squishy melon thing but then I realised there was no squishy melon, to begin with, it was the woman's chest that I was squeezing, with every squeeze she twitched, making the whole scene even more erotic.

I quickly withdrew my hand, trying not to wake her up, but alas, my now self-conscious hand fails me. "Ah!" she moans as she opened her eyes, calling her pretty would be an understatement, she had big ocean blue eyes, I could almost feel drowning in her stare.

"Darling, looks like you were having a good time." she said with a smug face.

I was confused.

"Who is darling? Is she talking to me? But I am a kid compared to her, did she kidnap me? Am I being trafficked?" thoughts like these swirled in my mind. I don't know how but she saw right through me, "Darling, is there something worrying you?" the woman asked.

Amidst the chaos within my mind, some of my thoughts slipped and came out through my mind,

"Who are you?" I asked.

With a smug look, she said, "Looks like you are still in your dreams, or perhaps you don't want me to leave, do you?"

She brings her head close to mine, "What is she doing?" I thought.

"Time for the morning kiss~" she whispers as she leans close for the kiss.

She was so close, I could her breast on my chest, that sensation was godly. Quickly, I backed myself a little against my will. "Are you okay?" she asked, confused by my reaction.

"Who? Me? Of course, just needed to go to the washroom. I'll be back in a couple of minutes." I said nervously. I got out of bed and started moving towards the door in the unfamiliar environment.

"Honey!" the woman shouted.

Caught aback, I nervously replied, "Yes, what is it dear ?"

"Weren't you going to the washroom?" she asks.

"Yeah" I replied as I fumbled with my words.

"Then why are you going outside the room? The door is there." she said pointing to the other corner of the room, where another door of similar proportions stood.

"Oh, yeah, I was going there only, I guess the last night's drink messed my mind a little." I replied thinking she would believe me.

"When did you start drinking?" she questioned immediately.

"I don't? Heh, yes, I don't, just messing with ya." I replied, confused about what to say next.

She didn't look very convinced, but I ignored her and paved my way to the washroom, as soon as I reached the door, I quickly turned the knob and went inside. Once inside, I was freaking like a fly in a spider's web. I tried to calm myself by rubbing my hands, it was ineffective. I was having a full-fledged existential crisis when I saw a man on the other side of the sink, he was tall, had reddish-brown hair like I used to have and blue eyes with a sharp nose. I felt a strange feeling of familiarity upon seeing his face. He was in green PJs and was rubbing his hand just like me, though his clothes hid his body, I could feel he had a muscular body.

"Who are you?" I whispered, but he didn't say a word, instead, he just moved his mouth as if imitating to speak, I moved my hand toward him and he did the same, I lifted my left leg and he did the same, everything I did he just copied me. Frustrated, I sent a light punch towards him, but my punches never reached him, an invisible wall blocked it. It hit me with a wave of understanding. There was no invisible wall; there was no other side of the sink, to begin with, the man on the other side was my reflection in the mirror!

Confused, I touched my face, I picked myself. Ouch! It hurts. This is no dream! How could this all happen! I was just a kid the night before and now I'm a grown-ass man. Suddenly, it hit me, I wasn't being trafficked, the woman is indeed my wife, and I'm indeed her husband.

"Calm down! Calm down, Nate!" I said, trying to calm myself.

"You need to stay calm, otherwise she would know, it would only make things worse, you need to calm down!" I continued speaking to myself.

Slowly the adrenaline withdrew, looking at myself in the mirror, I started working on a plan.

"First, I would need some evidence to make sure, this is me, next I would need to confirm the year, a family album would be perfect for the job, yeah sounds like a good plan."

With shaky hands, I turned the doorknob and exited the washroom, she was still there, but now asleep. Perfect! I tiptoed my way out of the room, try to make as little noise as possible. I reached the door, turned the knob and exited the room as the door behind me closed with a creak.

I let out a sigh of relief. The next aim was to look for a photo album. The living room would be the best place to start from. I quietly made my way to the living room, on my way, I saw photos of me and that woman in customised frames you would find in any newlywed couple's house. I was about to exit the corridor and enter the leaving room when I noticed something in the corner of my eye. I turned my head to find an 8X10 steel door with letters S, T, U, D, Y engraved on the surface, in Times New Roman font.

"That must be my study, it would be a much better place than the living room to research about myself." I thought.

I tried to push the door but it wouldn't budge, I tried pulling it, still no effect, then I thought maybe this a sliding door, I tried to push it towards right from the left, ineffective, then from right to left, the move failed. Exhausted, I decided to drop the plan and search in the living room when I saw a digital keypad attached to the door.

"It requires a password, you idiot!" I scolded myself.

I wondered what I could have used as a password, maybe our wedding anniversary; don't know, maybe my birthday; wrong, must be my mom's number; nope, what is it! Then I realized, deep down there was a side, none one knew, I am a pervert! I tapped 8008 as the passcode, the calculator style graphics making it look like BOOBS. It worked! CLANK! The metal door moved inwards, there was the sound of gears rotating, then a snap. Gently, I pushed the door inwards, it opened as if was weightless. Slowly, I entered the room, what stood before were stories tall shelves of books. Each shelf contained more than a thousand books for the very least, the study was for a bookworm like me, a wet dream. I was so lost in my thoughts; I failed to realise I have reached the end of my study.

Millions of books; all arranged neatly in hundreds of bookshelves, each of which were marked with the genre of books they accommodated. There was historical fiction, academic, non-fiction and many more; all neatly arranged in their room. It was truly a sight to behold. My fanboying came to a stop when my eyes saw a blue bulletin board at the end of the room. It had several pictures pinned to it joining all corners of the board, with various X's and arrows, like a mind map. I walked towards the end of the room, hoping to get a closer look; the moment I realised what they were, my heart froze, the heading of the bulletin board read, "NATE HAWKS: Collection of Losses."

That's my name, why do I have it on the board, and what is the "collection of losses"?

Loss ID 0001: Andria Hawks, there were photos of a woman, she looked remarkably similar to my wife, no, it was her. There were marker writing, all in red, each describing the circumstance in which the photo was taken.

Cause: Death

That line scared the heck of me. What do you mean death? I was with her in the morning. How could she possibly be dead?

Day: 27th June 2031

Time: 11:55 a.m/

That's it! I quickly scanned the room for a calendar, I tripped over an ashtray like object, CLINK!

It made a sound, soon rays of light came bursting through it.

"Hello there, Nate! How my help you?" came a feminine voice from the object.

"Who was that?" I shouted in utter disbelief.

"That's unusual, it's me SOPHIA, the artificial intelligence of the Hawks household, you created me remember?" the voice said.

It was artificial intelligence, perfect! Nothing could have been a better device than an A. I itself.

"So, Sophia, could you please tell me what date is it today?" I asked politely.

"It's 26th June!" the AI responded.

"26, huh? What year is it?" I asked.

"2031 ." she replied.

"Is this some kind of prank? No, this couldn't be, I remember being a 17-year-old kid yesterday, and if the person responsible for my condition is the same who had given this prediction, then that woman is in great danger. I must save her."

'Honey! Weren't you in the washroom?" a voice came from behind.

"Yes!" I said, jumping from fear. It was my wife.

"Oh crap! If she sees this, how would I explain this to her." I thought.

"Why are you staring at an empty board?" she asks.

"Empty? Do you mean you can't see anything on the board?" I asked.

"Yes, there is nothing on the board to begin with." she replied.

I turned around to make sure she wasn't joking. She wasn't, her face had the genuine expression of confusion.

"She can't see the photographs, this is surely something supernatural, and by the looks of it, the prediction might come true. I need to save her. Gotta think quick!"

"Anyway, weren't you in the washroom?" she inquired.

"Oh, yes, I was, I just need to find something." I lied, trying to look away from her eyes.

"Okay? Did you find what you were looking for?" she asked, I could tell from her tone she was not believing it.

"Ah, no, I was going to ask you about that, you know what, maybe it is not here, let us check in the living room" I replied, fumbling with my words here and there. I hastily pushed her out of the room as I exited, the last thing I saw were the marker writings rearranging themselves, to spell, 'SAVE HER'.
