Chapter 37: He needs help.

"Okay, tell me now. Why were you distracting me in Physics class, giggling and smirking like you won the lottery?" Fu Pei asked his friend during lunch break.

"I was spying on my father! I planted a listening device in my father's car today. I am afraid he plans to watch my every move. You two would have to supervise operations in the gang from now on." His friends could hardly hear what their friend was saying because Wang Yong's mouth was full of rice.

"But what if your godfather comes looking for you? You know that he may reinstate Kong Zhu back in his former position if you remain inactive for so long." Bai Du picked up a bean sprout and placed it in another plate in distaste.

"Then just tell him what I said. Besides, he already knows that we have to study for the college exams." Wang Yong replied.

"So how is the Liu family treating you?" Fu Pei and Bai Du suspected that Wang Yong was still scared of his mother even though he always found a way to deal with her. To them, she was Wang Yong's personal nightmare.

Wang Yong nodded and up a spoon full of soup into his thin lips."Very nice. My father has suddenly turned into a saint now that he has found out that he is about to die and my mother..."

"What do you mean that your father is about to die?!" Bai Du's eyes bulged out of shock, his spoon hanging loosely from his fingers.

"My father has also been diagnosed with a late stage lung cancer. Which means that very soon, we are going to wear black again!" Wang Yong chuckled darkly, shaking his head.

Bai Du hesitated for a while before he dropped his chopsticks. "I am so sorry, Wang."

That single sentence made Wang Yong freeze, his eyes suddenly changing with different emotions he struggled to conceal. The mood on the table that was once full of ambiance and laughter had now changed to sobriety and sadness. Fu Pei hit Bai Du, giving him a look.

They made no attempt to revert the mood, knowing that it would not change anything so they ate in silence. Wang Yong was stuck in his childhood memories, his thoughts full of complicated emotions. Soon one single question occupied his whole mind, his eyes becoming dazed.

The thought of my father's death, am I happy or am I sad?

It reverberated in his head for so long that soon he was jerked back into reality when he felt his cutlery being taken away from him by force, looking at his friends who wore alarmed looks. Fu Pei held a napkin to his wrist, pressing it to his skin making him hiss. "F*ck, Wang! What did you do?!"

The whole cafeteria was in a pandemonium, their whispering and gasps filling the Bai Du looked at a panicked boy who stood at the side. "Why the hell are you standing there? Call the school nurse!"

The boy shook at the deep tone Bai Du used to shout at him, his body processing the command before his brain did as he ran. Wang Yong finally gained consciousness and looked at his bleeding wrist to the bystanders looking back at him with fright. "Don't worry, I won't die. Please go back to your seats."

He repeated the statement so many times as one of the kitchen staff escorted him to the school clinic, meeting the boy who they had sent earlier stammering in front of the school nurse. When the boy saw them, he pointed at them with a shaking finger, finally saying. "Them! Please help them!"

The nurse at the reception desk had just started her job a month ago so she didn't know that Wang Yong was a regular patient to the school clinic. She immediately directed them to the doctor's office.

The doctor stood up and began to work on his wrist when he saw Wang Yong. He looked at Wang's friends with concern as he stitched him up. "How did this happen?"

Fu Pei ruffled his hair in frustration and worry, saying. " We don't really know, Doc. We had gone to get change our drinks and when we came back, we saw him muttering to himself and he was using the table knife to cut his skin!"

Bai Du was almost crying out of remorse and regret. "It's my fault, Doc! I shouldn't have made him upset!"

The doctor who was not a stranger when it came to Wang Yong's cases, told them with a grim expression. "This can't continue to go on, Bai Du. Your friend needs to see a psychologist immediately, it is not good for him to remain like this." He noticed that Wang Yong's eyes remained blank. "I think it's best if he goes home and I call his parents."

"No, Doc! His parents can't know of his condition. Please help him!" Fu Pei objected.

"Why?" The doctor shook his head when he saw that they kept quiet, refusing to say anything. "Never mind, in that case he can just stay here. You all can come back when classes are over."

"Thank you, Doc." Fu Pei glanced at his friend one more time before he left with his friend, closing the door.

The doctor picked up an injection and approached Wang Yong who was still in a daze. He was about to pierce his skin when he suddenly felt pain on his wrist when Wang Yong held his hand. "Wang Yong! Wang, come down! It's me, Doctor Li!"

He exhaled when he saw that Wang Yong had released him, continuing his work even though his skin had already started becoming bruised. It was only when he saw that the boy's eyes had closed in sleep did he he finally look at his wrist. He sighed.

Doctor Li came out out of his office, dismissing the nurse before he made a call. The first person he called was Doctor Huang. "My good friend, I called just to tell you that kid you told me to watch out for, cut his wrist again. I really think we should make him see a psychologist....."

A few minutes later, he made another call lowering his voice. "Leader, we have a problem. Yes, your godson just had another episode. He slit his wrist again, what should I do?"
