Chapter 2: CHAPTER 1: Investigation in an Alternate World
What.. What is this?
I saw a familiar vision, the ceiling. I turn my head in every location and saw an old bookshelf, a computer, shoe rack, and my drawer. I immediately realized that this is my room before the outbreak. Everything feels so nostalgic, tears flows through my cheeks.
I remembered that in your final moments, you'll see your memories going backwards very quickly.
"This is different from what they have said." I told myself convincingly.
I got up to browse my books. I loved reading light novels back then, this is my own personal space. Everything feels so real, the sun that basks my room. I felt heat in my skin, a discomfort from just woking up. I glance to my alarm clock, it says 8:30 AM, today is Saturday. I checked my calendar, it says 20xx.
"So this is 10 years from when I was alive." I told myself.
I sat in my room, and then I heard my phone ringing.
"tururururururururungggggg"
"tururururururururungggggg"
I got irritated. I remebered that I used a very loud ringtone because when I immersed myself in reading. It's very hard for me to notice everything around me.
I looked at the screen.
It was my bestfriend, Nifuji.
He saved me when we were surrounded by "them". He told me to run with Yui and regroup with our team. I didn't want to leave my bestfriend but Yui dragged my feet away from him.
"TOOT"
"Hello?"
*Where you at right now?*
"Oh. I'm at home, Nifuji."
*What?*
From Nifuji's tone, I can see that he is furious.
*Didn't we had an agreement to go practice today with Yui?*
"Oh, uhm.. Right! Sorry, I don't feel so good today. I answered with a flustered tone."
*What? Oh so you're sick huh. Alright, we can't do anything about it if you're sick. Get well buddy!*
"Yeah. Sorry about this."
The call ended quickly.
"No way in hell I am going to study in my death's door. Wait, did he just said practice? Practice studying? We were suppose to study and go over the festival this night, right?"
That is what I remember. Ohh man.. I'm tired, this has been too long. What the hell is happening.
What if, I am back in the past, and I'm not dreaming?
"Haha.. ha.."
I laughed but it slowly fades away because it isn't even funny.
"No way that will happen to me. Alright then."
I decided to eat because I felt hungry, so even if this is just a dream, I too get ---- hungry.
I saw my mother cooking something. I immediately ran at her to give her a hug.
She was shocked. I know it. I was never this affectionate to her before. She simply smiled at me and patted my head.
"Mom? What's for breakfast? "I almost cried but I held it back.
"We can have pancakes for today, your favorite."
She smiled at me. I felt so nostalgic and relaxed at that time. I gave her my biggest smile that I could ever do. I sat down and ate my meal. I watched the news with her. Father is out at work and my sister has her club activities on weekends.
"It's so rare of you to have breakfast. It's good that I made extra for today, Nifuji."
"Well, I.. uhm.. hmm.. was very hungry for some reason!"
I smiled at my her. I never had this meal for a very long time with someone. I am so happy today.
I went back to my room. I get back to sleep knowing that this dream would end soon.
"Wait, is it a dream? Or a flashback?"
I wanted to ask myself more but it don't matter to a dead person anyway.
----------------------3 hours have passed------------------------
Someone's knocking on my door.
"Were coming in!"
It was Nifuji and Yui.
"Yui? Nifuji? What brings you here?"
"Well, Yui here has been very worried about your health. And we finished practicing so we decided to come over."
"No! No I'm not! Nifuji you idiot!" Yui sounded flustered.
"Oh. Yui. Don't worry, I'm fine! Sorry to make you feel bad."
I made Yui worried.
But something feels weird, this is not part of my memories. I remembered that I went with them to study before. But if future have changed because I was not with them, then..
Have I gone back to the past? It was supposed to end the dream when I went back to sleep, right?
So.. Is this reality? No way! Did I go back to the past? I can't believe this. If it's true, then.. then I must warn them about the apocalypse!
No. I have to calm down. First, I must investigate what really happened to me.
So I whispered something to Yui.
"Hey, thank you for saving me when I was surrounded by "them".
"What are you talking about? Are you still half asleep?" Oh right, I bought some juice for you! Its not like I want you to get better. I just felt bad that I am drinking something and you're just watching me drink it! hmph!"
Hmmmm.. Feels like she doesn't know everything.
"You're so cruel Yui~ you bought some juice for Kenji and you forgot about me~ so unfair~"
"Die idiot!"
Nifuji looks at me. He looks very excited, like he wants to show me something. Tch, that smirk face.. I wanted to punch him for some reason.
"hehe! Kenji, I have something to show you."
Alright. Here it is. Nifuji really is an open book.
I drank the juice while waiting for what he is about to show me. Nifuji opens his palm, I thought he was gonna give me something. But there was nothing on it. But then flames engulfed at the top of his palm.
I panicked, his palm's on fire without any reason. So I poured my juice on his palm.
"Hey! What the hell are ya doing? After I finally managed to control my flames!"
"What? Control? Hey now don't play with fire on my house!"
"Oh come on, believe in me. I can control magic better now, it won't blow up like last time."
"Oh.. Right, I see." (Wait, did he just said magic?)
"Ermm.. How about you? Yui?"
"Oh. Me?"
She stood up and opened both of her arms. She began levitating in the air. She acted like it was a norm here.
"SWOOOOOOOSHHH"
She then landed. She was so beautiful. Her silky hair is flying around, her legs is so long and tender. She is so slim. Her chest is round and soft that it bounced a little when she lands. What's more is that it's not too big, and not too small. ----------- Wait, what the hell is going on in here? Why can she fly? Is she an angel?
"Ohh.. Umm... Yeah! Fantastic!" (I don't know how to react to that, definitely!)
"Everyone knows she has talent in magic, you know?" Nifuji nodded like it was so normal that she can fly.
"Ohh.. of course. You're right, Nifuji." (Wait, did he just said talent in magic?)
Wait wait wait. ------- So Nifuji can cast flames and have said that he can control it better now. And Yui can also fly. hmm.. Chunibyou? No no no. No I don't think so. After all, they can do it. Wait.. So that means..
Kenji has finally succeeded in connecting the dots.
After spending 5 hours in this dream.. no, this is not a dream. This is the reality. I was back from the past. But.. Something is different. Have I been..
Reincarnated.. in an alternate world?
I reincarnated in an alternate world.
Whoaaa! This is too crazy for me. Not only I am back from the past, am actually in a different world! --- Wait, different world? Timeline? No, time is not the issue here. Dimension?Alternate? Mirrored?
This is confusing. Let me settle with alternate. So is it the same as my world? Except that it's not?
No. Before that, what should I do? Is the event still the same? Will there be an apocalypse? I should keep the apocalypse thing a secret, they won't believe me. No wait, that's not fair. I mean. They can cast magic! But magic is a fact here. Oh right! Magic! Speaking of magic, I'm not a part of this world, right? So it means that I can consider myself as.. a foreign object in this world.
Ohh.. so that means.. I am the only guy in this world that has no magic! What the hell is this? I am the weakest amongst the group in my original world, and now. I am also the weakest? No. They might have magic, but I have my own power of knowledge! No! I should expect the unexpected. What if my knowledge in my past life is useless here? Oh this is so confusing. I need to calm down.
Yui noticed Kenji staring at her. And now is very embarrassed about it.
"Umm.. hey Kenji. Why are you staring so hard at me?"
"Hey Kenjiii!"
"I said HEY KENJI!"
"Ouch!"
"Yui? What's wrong? Why did you push me?"
"Don't what's wrong me now! You were staring so hard at me, you know?"
I see that Yui is blushing and acting bashful. It seems that I still have the habit of forgetting everything around me when I'm deep in thoughts.
"Sorry! I was so astonished by your beauty just now!" (Wait, why did I say that? We are not yet a couple in this world!)
"Fweh?"
Yui covered her face to cover up her embarrassment.
(Well atleast she didn't get mad at me.)
"A-a-ah sorry Yui! I didn't mean to be so honest and straight about it!"
"No, its.. its fine.. I don't really mind..
I saw nifuji sneaking through the window.
"Oy, Nifuji. What are you doing?"
"Iahh." He lazily answered. "I just wanted to give you some time alone you know~ seems like I'm disturbing you~"
Yui quickly used her magic to close the window, leaving Nifuji on the floor.
"Ohh? I see, you wanted to give us some time alone eh?"
"uwaah, c-calm down now Yui. Yui? YUI?!"
I laughed at them, I am so happy to see these two. I really wanted to protect these precious memories of them.
"What? Hey, Nifuji. I think there is some loose screw on Kenji's head."
"Nah, forget about him."
Nifuji quickly changed the topic.
"Oh right Kenji, if you're feeling better now. Let's play some games."
"Oh, sorry. For some reason, I wanted to study in the library." (I must investigate this world first before going anywhere else.)
"Then, let me go with you. You coming, Yui?"
"Sorry, I wanna go home, I promised something to mother."
"Alright."
I quickly changed my outfit. "Uwaaa." What the hell, are these my fashion sense when I was younger?" Oh right, I am a first year highschool student. I gotta buy some new clothes.
"Let's go, Nifuji."
"Right behind ya."
We strolled around, I looked everywhere like I am a foreigner from a different country. Everything is still the same but, what's with the magic? We reached the library. I went up to search the history books.
Everything is just the same, but there is one thing that caught my attention. The war against demons since the memorial time andcases of demon murderers around the world. I skipped pages and notice that a plague that gives human the ability to obtain magic. It has a different name and this happened in 19xx. The name of the virus is GTX-00.
I immediately searched for the name of the virus on a computer, GTX-00 gives no harmful effects on human, they gained magic but it was a disaster. Millions of people have died because they can't control the magic.
Imagined those people who have died because of their loved ones but they didn't even mean it.
I take some keywords on my phone to continue researching about some things. That includes the concept of magic, demons, and the GTX-00.
I called up my friend, he is reading some manga.
"Hey, let's go."
"You done studyin'?"
"Yeah."
We left the library. I have so many questions about this world.
"Oh, Kenji. I have some errands to do. Mother called up to me just now. I'm leaving ya."
"Okay, Understood."
I am not yet satisfied, so I walked around the place and watched how life here goes around. No one is using magic for their everyday lives. Is it part of the law here? Law is important wherever I go, so I should do some research when I get home. The layout of this world is the same in my world, so it is easy for me to go around. Maybe if I attended class, I would get something from the history class or science. I don't even know the subjects. I went home and get to sleep, tomorrow is Sunday, so I should be able to do something about my magic if I have it or not.
I think I should just ask Yui to come tomorrow so I can ask her about it. I want to know if myself in this world have it or not.
---------------------- Sunday ------------------------
I readied myself, I texted her today to come see me here in my house at 11:00 AM. I notifed mom to make more for lunch because Yui is going to visit me. As she arrive, I greeted her and
"Hey, thanks for coming Yui."
Her clothes are so revealing. I can almost see her bare skin. I immediately slapped myself after saying those things to her.
"???? What's wrong Ken?"
"Nothing. Just getting rid of the demon inside me."
"Wait. Don't joke about that. I'm gonna be mad at you,"
Her face turns pale and serious all of the sudden. I understand, this world really have demons."
We had lunch, mom won't stop teasing us. Thanks for the treat though, I saw some different sides of her in this world.
"Hurry, I need you to do something for me."
"Ehh? Is that why.. I am here?"
I turn to her, confused why she is questioning me of why she's here.
We entered the room, oh man she was so full of openings, I can almost see her whole chest. Sweat running through her body lines. I immediately turned on my aircon.
"Hey thanks Ken"
"No worries. As long as you help me do my research."
"So whats-it about?"
"Oh. Nothing big really. Why demons and humans is in war. What led them to fight. Something like that."
"Wow.. That's... Pretty deep." -------- "You know, are you paying attention to class? Oh. I mean, ARE YOU EVEN AWAKE IN YOUR HOW MANY YEARS IN CLASSES?"
"Woah calm down! What do'ya mean?"
"Ugh! No one really knew why the two parties have been in a war, you know. Some says that humans and demons were fighting for land and resources. Some researchers also said that engrave in the demons gene are somewhat likely to connect why they're hostile. Some says that humans are a greedy creature and demons have been defending only."
(This is really odd.) So no one in this world have a single clue.
"Anyway, what kind of magic do I have?"
"What?"
She answered like that. I know what she is thinking about. I know. I look like an idiot.
"Just answer me."
"I mean, you know that 1% of humans in this world have no magic, right?"
"So I am one of those people, huh.."
"Yeah, you specialize in trainings and becoming a leader. You know, we are your soldiers and stuff."
"Alright. Thank you. I think were done here for today. What do you wanna do?"
"Hmmm.. I'll sleep in your bed."
"Sure."
She jumps in my bed. Looking so exhausted like she ran 10km. She's charming, this girl has too many openings. I jammed my brain as to what I could do. The virus, demons, "them", future, time travel.
"I.. My head hurts.."
My vision is becoming darker. Eyelids getting heavy and droopy. I immediately fell asleep in my study desk.
I noticed that I fell asleep and I woke up in my bed. I feel so weak and my body is heavy. I immediately understand this. "Relaxed". I have not been so relaxed in my whole life. In my sleep, I stay on guard, I always look behind me. I'm a paranoid person and that is normal because of what I have been through. Now it ends abruptly, my body's feeling paranoid. I turn to my left facing my wall, only to see Yui besides me. Watching me.
"Oh, sorry did I wake you up Ken?"
"Why am I in bed?"
"I carried you using my wind magic. What'dya say, pretty cool right?"
"Ah.. Thanks. So... um..."
"hmmm?? What's the matter Ken?"
"Why are you here in bed with me, Yui?"
"Oh.. Its really comfy here, ya know.."
"Oh.. I see. Should I mind you? I'm pretty tired and I am too tired to feel shock about how you casually bring up that you went to bed with me."
"Ehehe.. Just wanna tease ya.. Alright, take a rest, I'm going back home."
"Alright. Thanks for coming. Just say your regards to my mom."
"Okay Ken."
She left the room. I went to sleep. I'm too sleepy to feel concious with sleeping with her. Or is it because we are lovers back in my previous life?
"Don't care anymore. I'm sleeping now."
Meanwhile.....
That's... Embarrassing, its good that I manage to keep my cool. I almost hugged him today to. But that idiot didn't even notice my intent. What's with him!
"Hey Auntie, thanks for today!"
"Hmmmm. Leaving already? That idiot Kenji won't even escort a girl home."
"No worries, I can handle this much."
I immediately leave their home. My face feels so hot. I wanted more, but he is a fucking idiot. I'll make you notice me Kenji, I swear.
"Oh, I have my assignments. I need to get home." See ya in school tomorrow, Kenji."
