Chapter 2: Chapter 2 - Revival

Charlotte

A few minutes after Evelyn's visit, Charlotte stood up and went back to her work. Quietly sweeping the house's floor, Charlotte's expression is still a bit down from earlier. Sweeping from place to place, Charlotte wasn't even thinking properly at said moment. Monotonously sweeping like a puppet in a string.

Busy with her sweeping, she accidentally bumps herself into the house wall.

"Ouch..." Charlotte cried.

Charlotte felt an aching pain from her head as she clumsily fell in the floor. Touching the swollen injury in her head, Charlotte cries as the minor pain stings her body. She somewhat detests herself for not noticing the wall while she was cleaning.

With her aching injury on the focus, Charlotte's monotonous cleaning was quickly cut short. Grabbing a towel and soaking it in water, Charlotte carefully place the wet towel in her head with the injury. Busy treating her injury, Charlotte notices how still hasn't finish washing the dishes.

"Oh right... I forgot I was doing the dishes." Charlotte quietly mutter, as she looks at the unwashed plates. "How clumsy of me to easily forgot."

Dropping the soaked towel, Charlotte continued to finish the dishes.

With her small hands touching the cold water, a sense of easiness befalls the young Charlotte. Ever since her father left for said adventure, loneliness has been the normalcy for her. Alone in such a house with no one by her side. At first it was hard for the young Charlotte, the coldness she feels when she sleeps and the abundant of houses chores. But overtime she got used to it, the chores, the coldness, the loneliness. Such things are stuff that normal adults feel, Charlotte thought. So, she drilled herself to get used to such things and expect nothing much.

Humming a tone as she washes the dishes, a sudden drop of water fell in her hand. At first, she thought that the droplet was just from the water she was using to wash the dishes. But after a few more drops, she finally realizes that said droplets were her tears.

Huh?

Confused as to why she was crying, she quickly tried brushing off her face. But despite her best effort to erase her tears, it just keeps falling from her eyes nonstop. And before she knew it, she was fully crying in her kitchen.

With her vision getting blurry from the tears in her face, Charlotte laughs. It seems that I'm still yet fully used to being alone, despite how much I say it to myself. She thought to herself.

Her crying went for a few minutes, until her tears were soak dry. With nothing more to muster, she quickly washes her face and went back to her work. Not wanting the debt to distract her, she tried pumping herself as she does the chores. Energize to the brim, she quickly finishes all the house work like it was nothing.

"Phew..."

Sighing from relief, she smiled as she looks at the fully cleaned house. Not even a speck of dust was present from how much she cleaned her home. Satisfied with her work, she quickly notices the sweat that she accumulated from the work she did. Not wanting to smell bad, she decided to take a bath not long after.

Making her way to her to the bathroom, she saw the ominous door that leads to her house's basement. She'd never really went to basement throughout her life and the door of the thing was always lock every time she checks. Such an ominous and mysterious door, was very fascinating to her. She even wonders what sort of treasures lies below her house. But despite her eagerness to check, her father's warning always stops her from venturing.

Only open the door when we're in serious trouble. Was her father's warning.

Such a vague warning, confuses Charlotte for a very long time. What does "in serious trouble" even mean. Charlotte thought. Does Father mean, a life threatening type of trouble or just a regular big one?

But with no answer in hand, she ignores the door for now and continued walking to the bathroom.

Reaching the bathroom's vicinity, she casually enters the place. Taking off her clothes, her small and pale skin was exposed in the open once more. Placing her clothes in a basket she then grabbed a towel and carefully hop on a barrel of water.

"Baths sure are the best" Charlotte smiled.

Normally people in her times take baths in public bathhouses or in the river. But due to her father not wanting the young Charlotte to get exposed to the dangers of such places. He personally made a bathroom to their home, which is an oddity for commoner houses.

With her body soaked in clear water, the greasy sweat and the dirt from her skin were eventually washed off. Grabbing a bottle filled with a green like substance, Charlotte then open said bottle and pour a bit of the green substance in her hand. Satisfied with the amount she took; she then placed the bottle back from where it belongs and rubbed both her hands. After the rubbing she then placed her slimy hand in her skin and slid it all over her body. Covering every nook and cranny of her body with the substance, she then hopped back from the barrel of water and washed the substance away.

Relief can be seen in her face, as the water wash away the green substance. But after a few minutes of her bath, Charlotte then gets off the water filled barrel and ends her relaxing bath. As much as she likes to stay, she forced herself to quickly end her bath. Because she knows that if she spends a long time in the bath, it will quickly become a habit of hers.

With her being all clean, she then dried herself using the towel from earlier. Leaving the bathroom, she quickly made her way back to her room and grab another set of clothes from the cabinet. What she grabbed was the same type of clothing from when she woke up, which she casually wore. Satisfied with her overall look, Charlotte then went back to the living room to check the place.

Arriving at the place, she saw that nothing much has changed from when she took a bath. The place is still clean as ever and the furniture's are neatly arranged. Normally Charlotte would find a way to busy herself for the entire day, but due to the lingering problem of her father's debt she can't think of wasting her time at the moment. If she doesn't find a way to pay said debt then she'll be homeless. Charlotte thought.

Sitting at the kitchen table, she tried thinking of ways to pay said debt. But due to her being just a kid, she wasn't able to think much of any opportunities that will quickly end said debt. 10 gold is just too much for the young Charlotte, she can't even think of any job that allows her to save that much of money in a month.

But despite not being able to think of anything, the young Charlotte didn't give up. She already came so far, living by herself. So, no debt is going to stop her from living a normal and honest life.

Motivated to erase the debt, Charlotte started thinking once more.

Christopher

Christopher Aein Winterfall a notable Wizard of the Mage Guild. Having potential in arcane magic at a young age, Christopher was invited to join the Guild and was personally trained by the Masters of the Guild. Showing high prowess as a mage, Christopher quickly made a name for himself at the Mage Guild and in the Kingdom. Skilled in the arcane and also being knowledgeable at the thing, he gained achievement after achievement which quickly rose his rank to Wizard at the age of 19. Achieving said title in such a young age, many expect the outstanding Christopher to become one of the Grand Wizards of the kingdom in the future. But despite said achievements and high expectations, Christopher himself is a pretty modest person who isn't really out to gain such high title. For him, the chance to study the mysteries of the arcane is already enough. Ranks, titles and fame are just secondary to his grand ambition to understand the mysteries of magic.

Arriving at the Mage Guild Building, Christopher casually enter the place without a problem. Entering the place, Christopher was greeted with a busy hall, full of people talking to receptionists and seeing the bulletin boards. With said scene being normalcy to him, Christopher ignored the busy crowd and made his way to the building's second floor.

Arriving at the place, Christopher was greeted by a familiar face.

"Yo!" The man greeted. "It's quite rare to see you this late, Christopher. Normally you'd be the one complaining about me being late."

"Good morning, Ned." Christopher said. "It's still the 2nd amanecer estrella, so I'm technically not late."

"Fair point..." Ned nodded. "But I still arrived earlier than you, so that's a first. Maybe next time, I'll finally beat you in combat."

"[Sigh...] You could have at least told me if the meeting has finally started."

"Still serious as ever, eh? If you keep that up then you'll be Grand Wizard in no time." Teased Ned.

Ignoring the smug Ned, Christopher continued his way in the floor. Seeing Christopher ignore his teasing, Ned quickly followed suit and apologized. Being friends when they were still apprentices, Ned was very close to Christopher. He even thinks of him as a brother, despite not being blood related.

"Sorry-sorry." Pleaded Ned. "Please stop being angry at me Christopher. I promise to not tease inability to get laid, ever again."

"Do you even understand the words that are coming out of your mouth?"

"Oh my? Is my dear Christopher rebutting me? Don't tell that you've finally found someone that fancy your interest?"

"..."

"Not a single answer, how disappointing..." Ned said. "And here I thought, that you've finally found someone of interest."

"And I also wonder, why you have a high interest in such a pointless thing?"

"Who wouldn't?" Ned answered. "You're one of the most famous people in the Kingdom and you're quite handsome as well. I've seen many girls take fancy of you, yet you busy yourself with all this magic stuff. People in our age would normally be living their lives to the fullest or getting married. Yet here you are, wasting said youth away."

"And I guess that just means that we're quite different." Christopher said.

"[Sigh..] I've expected such answer from you."

"Let's not dwell into such things, we still have a meeting to attend." Christopher said.

"Yeah-Yeah." Ned complained. "All we ever do in said meetings is just stand around and listen to the same people chatter."

"Then I suggest you to get used to it." Christopher advised. "Who knows in the future, if will be the one's chattering in said meetings."

"Fineeee..."

Continuing their walk in the floor, both Christopher and Ned arrive at a peculiar room. Opening the door of said the room, they saw a somewhat large room with a gigantic table inside. In the seats of said table, were a bunch of people in cloaks whom also have other cloaked people by their side. Noticing the sharp gazes of the people inside, both Christopher and Ned bowed down to people in the seats and quietly excused themselves. Making their way to the seated man cloaked in green, they then stood beside said man and await for the meeting to begin.

"Are these all the people?" One of the people in the seat asked.

"With still have to wait for the Grandmaster." A woman from the seat answered.

Hearing what the woman said, Christopher was a bit shocked. A Grandmaster can also mean a Grand Ranked Wizard, which in most cases normally doesn't attend such small meetings. Curious about the information he has heard, Christopher can't help but wonder the reason for why such an important person would join said meeting.

But before he can even start thinking, the room door suddenly opened, revealing a person from outside. The person wore an expensive looking robe made of Wyvern skin, and various ornaments in his neck. His cloak was the grandest thing of his clothing, being made in a material which Christopher can't identify but can tell that its expensive. Covering the neck portion of said cloak is a smooth black fur, which Christopher easily identified as a Black Direwolf fur. Seeing such expensive materials in the flesh, Christopher was mesmerized. Finding such materials is pretty difficult even for someone with the cash, yet the man in front of him is wearing such clothing in the open like it's normal.

"Greetings, Grandmaster White." Showing their respect for the man that showed up, everyone in the room bowed down to the Grandmaster's presence. Not wanting to disrespect a Grandmaster of the Guild, Christopher and Ned followed suit.

"Please lift up your heads." Grandmaster White commanded. And with the Grandmaster's words, the people in the room quickly lift their heads. Soon after their greetings, Grandmaster White made his way inside the room, accompanied with two cloaked people. Seating at the farthest end of the table, Grandmaster White then began the meeting.

"Greetings Everyone." Grandmaster White spoke in a majestic tone. "I would like to apologize first, for this unannounced meeting. I know that all of you may be confused as to why I decided to call you all for today."

"Such apology is unwarranted, Grandmaster White." One of the seated people spoke. "Every word from the Grandmasters is an utmost importance to us. So, there's no need to apologize."

"I see... then I would like to thank you all for coming here today. I don't want to waste any more time, so I'll just cut this discussion to the chase. I came here today to give you all a personal message from the north."

"A personal message to the north?" One of the seated people echoed. "Did something happen in the north, Grandmaster White?"

"We're not certain, but we received a message from one of our troops in the north, informing us that the Demon King has been revived."

Hearing the Grandmaster's words the people in the room quickly became shock. The implication of the Demon King being revived once again, means danger for the Kingdom and the entire world.

"Are you certain about the information, Grandmaster White!?" One of the seated people questioned. "I thought that the Demon King revives every 300 years, isn't it quite early for such a thing?"

"I thought of it myself, but seeing the frequent activities and hearing reports of demon sightings. I was growing second thoughts." Grandmaster White worriedly said. "Demon's shouldn't be this active, unless something pivotal has happened."

"Has the King been informed of said information?" A seated person questioned.

"We already sent a messenger to inform the King about this information." Grandmaster White answered. "We need to be very careful about anything regarding this information. If this goes public, then the people of the Kingdom will grow distress and panic. Which is the worst-case scenario for us."

"I see, then the reason you called us here..."

"It's to inform you all with this information and give you all the task of maintaining harmony. If the information sent is indeed true, then Demon activities will be rampant all over the Kingdom. Your tasks as Arc Wizards of your branches is to subdue any demon activities and misinformation's that may pop out in the future. We must not let this information go public unless the situation has been fully investigated and if the King orders so."

"Are we permitted to share this information with the Adventurer Guild?" A seated person asked.

"If you deemed so, then I'll allow it. As long as the information doesn't go fully public." Grandmaster White Answered.

"But what about the other groups?" A seated person questioned. "I highly doubt that others don't have spies already infiltrating our ranks, especially the church."

"I understand your concern. But even if the church and the other groups does find out, I highly doubt that they'll easily reveal it. They're essentially in the same boat as us in the first place."

Listening to the discussion, Christopher grew worried. The Demon King is an all-powerful being whose power can rival a kingdoms army, from what Christopher has studied. And if such being comes to existence once again, then a full war wouldn't be a stretch. Such instances where the case throughout the Kingdom's history, every time the Demon King revives.

"Grandmaster White, may I ask who are the people that are tasked to investigate the Demon King revival?" Asked the man cloaked in green.

"Why ask such a thing, Emerald?" The woman in the seat questioned.

"Well... I just want to know If the people we're sending are right for the task, the Northern Planes aren't really nicest place to be in. Especially to someone who aren't fully prepared." The green cloaked man answered.

"We've sent about 3 High Ranked Wizards and 1 Arc Ranked Wizard who have experiences in the Northern Planes to investigate. They're also accompanied by a few Kingsknight sent by the King." Grandmaster White said.

"I see..." The green cloaked man muttered.

"Are there any questions that any of you want clarification?" Grandmaster White questioned.

Seeing how all the seated people are quiet, the seated woman then answered.

"It seems that we have no more questions at the moment, Grandmaster White."

"Then I'll end this meeting. Ladies and gentlemen, have a good day."
