Chapter 3: Ch. 3

At first light the Villagers started to get up from their beds getting themselves ready for the day's work, Liu Jing first went to check his mother's condition to see how she was. He was very happy to see her completion improved and that she was no longer burning,

" mother you're getting better.....the immortal really helped us " Liu Jing said to his mother with tears in his eyes, he was so happy that he couldn't contain it making his smile reached his eyes " AJing mother is well now, you don't have to worry about mother anymore..... " Liu Jing nodded happily hearing his mother's smoothing voice. But their moments of happiness was short lived when they heard the old lady of their family's irritating voice, their family consisted of the old lady who they usually called grandma, the man of the house lost his life about three years now so grandma was now the head. She gave birth to a total of seven child...three sons, two gers and three daughters.

Liu Jing's father the eldest who also lost his life the year before, he was the least loved among grandma's children so after his death his wife and two children Liu Jing and Liu Jia were turned into slaves of the family. The second son Liu Feng married Zhou Yan and with three children, two sons Liu Chang and Liu Zimo and a daughter Liu Xinyi...Liu Chang the eldest was studying in the county to become a Scholar making the old lady treat him like a treasure.

The Second son of the old lady Liu Haoran married Cao Baihui and with three children one son Liu Liang, one daughter Liu Zihan and one ger Liu Yinuo. The daughter and ger were already married in the village and the neighboring villages....Everyone in the house were treated fairly except Liu Jing, his younger sister and mother were treated harshly... it wasn't that the villagers couldn't see their harsh treatment but it was that all the Villagers were trying to scurry favors with the old lady since when Liu Chang becomes a scholar Liujia Village will benefit from him.

" Jing are you waiting for the sun to dry your butt before you'll get out of bed to work?!!!!..... come out for me " hearing the old lady's impatient voice sounded Liu Jing quickly got up from his mother's bed getting ready to go out " mother I'll bring you the elixir in a bit...please rest for a while I'll get you something to eat too " his eyes were red with tears threatening to fall out but he bit down his lips hard trying to contain them... " Ajing let me help you with the work, mother I am well now... " " No! " Liu Jing cut her off without a second thoughts.

" mother the immortal said for you to take the two elixir and rest well.... just wait for a few more days, I can still manage the work with Ajia...mother doesn't need to worry about us " he quickly left the room giving her no space to argue with him, she brought her hand to her mouth and started to sob " Ajing, Ajia mother has wronged you both..... don't blame mother too much " her heart felt heavy and she felt sorry for her two innocent children, but there was nothing she could do because this was their only way out so they had to endure all the hardship from the family.

The old lady frowned when she saw Liu Jing come out of the room... " have you slept enough.... you think I'm feeding you so you can live and enjoy in my house freely, where's your mother...is she still in bed? Hasn't she rested enough? " the old lady asked furiously, Liu Jing lowered his head while pinching the hem of his dress " grandma...mother....mother is not feeling well, she's burning up and we need money to call the village doctor... grandma should I go and call him so you'll take care of the money for consultation and medicine " Jing stuttered nervously, he really wanted to say a lot but he just didn't have the courage to... grandma's face darkened a lot. She'd rather spend the money on meat dishes for her precious children and grandchildren but she'd never spend such money as to call the doctor for Liu Jing's mother.

" where do I get that money for calling upon the doctor...go go go, go and do your work. Let your mother sleep for a few days and she'll be as good as new " grandma reckoned, Jing's eyes reddened more...he never had faith that grandma would care whether they die or not but hearing her say it plainly made him so lost and hurt. He nod his head and walked past her to the kitchen to meet Jia who was already waiting for him.

They quickly worked tactically and prepared the dishes for the rest of the family, after they served them Jing and Jia went back to continue on with their work waiting for the leftovers from the family before they could also eat. Jing walked out of the house with two wooden buckets heading to the well in the village, he passed by the aunties and uncles greeting them on the way with them giving him sympathetic looks.

" ah isn't this Jing from grandma Liu's house.... are you going to the well to fetch water? You look like you have no strength at all, have you eaten...or do you want me to get you some food? " Jing ignored the person who spoke and continued on his way, he didn't want to succumb to the persons taunts. The person was also a ger like him named Liu Bao who was the ger son of one of his aunt who married in the village, Liu Bao took it upon himself to always find troubles and taunt Liu Jing with his group of ger friends whenever he saw him so Liu Jing made up his mind to avoid them, there was one ger among them called Liu Liang who has set his eyes on Liu Jing's cousin Liu Chang because of the prestige of a scholar so Liu Liang helps Liu Bao to bully him a lot in order for Liu Bao to help fix him with Liu Chang.

Liu Bao was so pissed when he saw that Liu Jing had no intention of getting angry and not stopping, to him Liu Jing's sorrow and pain brings him ecstasy so he always wants to see Liu Jing in pain and tears. Liu Liang picked up a stone which was neither big or small and threw it at Liu Jing, Liu Jing hissed in pain and the bucket in his right had fell when the stone hit his hand. The group of friends started laughing loudly seeing him in pain " Ah Liang you did well... everyone hit him with stones for me " Liu Bao praised Liu Liang and ordered the rest, they they picked up Stones and started to stone Liu Jing...

The villagers gathered around and started to enjoy the fun with no one intending to help. That was until aunty Zhu came along in furry... " what are you doing to the poor child! are you trying to murder him?! can you take responsibility when you hurt him, I'll go to the yamen and Sue you all when something happens to him... Yuxuan help me with the buckets " She ordered her son and helped Liu Jing up, Liu Bao and his groups sneered in disgust and walked away...the standbys also dispersed when they saw that it was over.

" Thank you aunty Zhu...and brother Yuxuan " Liu Jing winced in pain, his eyes pooled with tears but he held it back not wanting to shed them. He had promised himself not to shed tears for them again no matter what, he wouldn't let them have what they wanted..they can hit him anyhow they wanted but he wouldn't let them see his tears. He took the buckets from Yuxuan's hand not minding the pain in his hands and body, he thanked their mother and son once again before walking to the well.

Aunty Zhu shook her head in distress, she couldn't understand why they'll hurt such a young and innocent child, their family were just refugees who were lucky enough to be able to settle in Liujia Village so they had no say in the village. She always watched the villagers bullied Liu Jing and his younger sister but she had no way to offer real help to them, she wished she could do much but she had no strength because they could throw her and her family out of the village anytime. " mother why don't they separate from the family? " Yuxuan asked curiously as he watched Liu Jing's back disappeared from sight " are you an idiot? how would they live if they separated from the family, their mother and children have no one to depend on so their only way out is to endure it... if it was me I would also rather endure it. " Yuxuan felt inexplicable hearing his mother he really sympathize with Liu Jing.
