"Are you dead? Are you dead?" He picked up a branch and poked Buggy's red nose. "Hey, red nose, big nose, are you awake?"
"Who are you calling Red Nose? Are you looking for death?" Buggy's conditioned reflex kicked in as he heard "Red Nose." He overcame the pain and stood up aggressively.
Buggy couldn't hear people calling him a red nose. Even if he were in a severe coma, he would forcefully wake up. The setting is very strange. After a brief moment of anger, reason regained control of Buggy's brain, and the two looked at each other.

Rodney's body was flung out of the pirate ship, but instead of plunging into the deep sea as Buggy had expected, he landed on the water's surface like a floating stone. He stepped on the water, coming to a stop.
His clothes were tattered, his skin was burned in many places, his face was covered in soot, and some of his hair had been singed.

"That's exactly what you thought." Buggy was kicked off the pirate ship by Rodney and dragged along in the water by the ship.
