Chapter 5: The Party
Chung Hui looked at his father appearing as an aggrieved son. "Ling'er cannot marry! She will forever be protected by me! She will be loved so much with me around!"
"Even if you become strong, you alone cannot protect your sister. Someday, your sister would need a different type of love, one that would fill her heart with so much warmth and comfort. With the person who will be her partner in creating a family of their own. You won't want to look at a suffering sister now, would you?" Jia Hao gently said as he tried to make his son understand.
"No! I don't want to cause any sadness to my cute little sister!"
"And besides, even you will have to marry someday. You are the Crown Prince, you would need to have your Crown Princess soon. You are already at the age where you can be engaged." Lin Jing Yi used this chance to remind his son to finally choose his Crown Princess. Their royal family never forces the marriage partner upon their children. They believed in true love. And that it's the only thing that can make you happy while ruling over your people. Where your partner is there to comfort, understand, care and love you whole-heartedly.
'They talk about the subject of my future as if I'm not here.' Ming Ling thought as she stared at her family. 'But their care actually warms my heart. In the past, since I was the youngest, my brothers often neglect me, and didn't mind me as I would not be fighting with them for the inheritance.
Right now, my life is different. In this lifetime, I would make sure that they are protected and safe from harm. I will treasure them the most.'

The Next Day, Night Time
The day of the party finally came, and a lot of their people came to greet the princess. This is the very first time the princess appears in public. Some excited, while some are lukewarm about this.
Moments later, a little girl by the age of 10, and a boy at 15, entered the hall. And as people turned to look, they can't seem to take their eyes off the girl.
All the girls looked at the boy with infatuation. He has sharp eyes that seem to be able to see your soul with platinum white hair.
Meanwhile, most of the crowd stared at the little girl. This certain girl, similar to the boy, has platinum white hair, and has an elegant countenance to her. Her graceful walk, her smile, her cute red lips, small button nose and gentle eyes, makes all the people present, admire her while others turn green with envy.
Seeing such a reaction from the people, Chung Hui stood proudly, as if announcing to everyone that he is the brother of such a beautiful girl. This caused their parents to chuckle.
"Such a wonderful day it is. Zhen welcomes everyone to my daughter, Zhou Ming Ling's 10th birthday." Zhou Jia Hao said with a smile on his face.
The whole time during the party, Ming Ling endured the boring meet and greet. She was introduced to the Prime Ministers, the General and all the nobles. What's more is that these people introduced their sons, nephews and grandsons to her.
Ming Ling is not insensitive to their purpose. They hope that she would fall for one of them, and ask for marriage.
They knew well about the customs of the royal family marrying for love. In this way, the royal palace would be less subjected to schemes and troubles.
"Imperial Father, Imperial Mother, Royal Brother, this princess feels uncomfortable, may I be excused for a bit?" Ming Ling stood up and bowed, and while she did this, both her parents and brother saw the twinkling of her eyes. They knew she was making an excuse to escape the banquet.
"Then, you go and take a short rest. The events will be held as soon as you return. For the mean time, let us all be acquainted." Once the Emperor said these, Ming Ling excused herself and went to their Peach Blossom Garden. Chung Hui wanted to follow his sister, but his mother stopped him. "Give her this time to adjust, Chung Hui. It's just her first time appearing in public. She has to overcome this alone. No one will dare to harm you sister inside these palace walls." Lin Jing Yi gently said as she held her son's hand.
Once Ming Ling reached the gardens, she situated herself in front of a pond and sat there while looking at the starry night sky. During these times did she look peaceful and calm.
Due to being alone, her urge to sing came before she realized it. This is the first time she sang in this new life of hers. And her family still has not discovered this talent of hers. They only knew of her talent with the instruments, dancing, poetry and painting.
Ming Ling closed her eyes, and upon opening her mouth, she sang from the bottom of her heart.
"Before I was granted
With this new life,
No one knew of the pain,
The ache, and the suffering
I experienced.
I was once forgotten and alone.
But now I am found.
This life,
I will treasure most."
As she finished the song, she opened her eyes, only to see someone at the opposite side of the pond.
