Several of these notifications started to filtering into the dream one after another and each one just increased Marz's anxiety. He has seen this scenario waaay too many times and it went one two ways; Really well or horribly wrong. It was too early to see the out come of this and it just made him wake up in a cold sweat (oh look, I guess kobolds can sweat, neat). Quickly he went though the event's of the dream and as soon as he thought about the status screen it popped-up in opaque, blue plaque that hovered in front of his face. It startled him, causing to jump up and bang his head on the low ceiling.

'Okay, so I only have to think it to open it. so I guess that also counts for the ques-' and as soon as the though was made the screen switched to the quest details. 'Okay, so this all reacts on thought. At least the others won't think I am crazy for talking to myself.'

Then a new window appeared as he thought of his reputation with the other kobolds:

'Okay, so that skill works like that.' he thought to himself finding it pretty curious that he had something like this, but maybe it was a handout for people like him. Maybe he wasn't the only one that reincarnated. His anxiety was slowly vanishing and getting replaced with a little something like hope. Then he went to look at the other weird skill and that came back like a truck ramming into him at top speed.

Watchful Eye of the Trickster: lvl N/A

I got my eye on you, little man. Don't go croaking yet.

It felt as if something had just tap-danced on his grave when he read the skill description. Here he was and another thing beyond his comprehension had to dash that little spark he was building.

'Well then, there goes my sleep for today.' His nerves were all on edge as he proceed to curl up into a little ball. Marz just wanted everything to just calm down and to wake up from this obvious dream, but he knew better. Knowing that sleep was a far gone conclusion he decided to check something. Looking at the pelt that he was laying on he thought about appraising it. Suddenly a name tag appeared beside it:

Crude Cave Rat Pelt, rank:???

'Okay, that's pretty neat. I wonder how it works.' Shoving the worrisome thoughts to the side, he began to appraise everything is his hovel. It didn't take too long and with that little experiment he learned two things:

- Once something is appraised, it's catalogued and can't be rescan to cheat the quest he had (figures).

- If the target was made of other things, you could see compounded list of what it was made of.

So far he had a list of the odd ends and bits that made his sleeping hutch down pat. Apparently based on how well it was made also gave it a rank, though all he got was question marks. Most likely case was the his appraisal wasn't ranked high enough to get that info yet, but hey, information was desperately needed at this point.

After what seemed like hours of Marz trying to organize his thoughts in the dark of his hutch, A clear sound rang out throughout the sleeping quarters. Life blossoming into earshot as the others began their day. A surly Kobold with a scar on his snout lifted the flap covering the entrance and motioned him out. Using appraisal Marz got some info as he made his way out:

It was a bit infuriating to him that he could only get that much out of it but at least he knew the key aspects. All the newly named were brought to the center of what could be a storage hut where each were handed a small bundle. Krung made his way to the front of the crowd where he began to speak.

"Newlings, you're starting your first day of work for the tribe. Since you have not proven yourselves yet, you will start as Miners. Each of you have been given a pick, a water-skin, and a bag. You will start to dig and you will keep digging till your bag is full." Krung Motioned to a ramshackle cart, "You will dump the rocks into the cart and go back to digging. You can also refill your water-skins at the drop off." As he finished, he put his primitive, well used pickaxe in the air and gave a hearty cry. "Lets get the shinies for the Boss!"

The audience held up their own picks with enthusiasm, all except Marz who gave a half-hearted cheer. That earned him a stink eye from older kobolds but he paid it no heed. They herded the lot of them to a site in progress, were shown how to use the pick, and then the Grind began. There was an obvious translation between his stats to his work as he could only chip away at the wall, which earned him the beratement of Foreman Krung. It was barely more than 30 minutes till he hated everything and everyone involved. His thin limbs had just enough leverage to bring the pick down to get some small chunks out. His arms felt heavy as lead at the one hour mark when he heard a loud ping and a screen popped up.

'Wait, I collected 50 ore already?' Marz thought as he looked down at his bag, only seeing ugly little rocks that he had picked at. But, to his surprise, they registered as chunks of Quartz ore. Since he was taking a bit of a break he began to guzzle down his water skin, whimpering as he found it empty too quick. He tried to pick up his bag, but found it was impossible to lift. He was about to request for help when he remembered he had an inventory. It popped up as he thought about it and another box appeared to ask if he wanted to add the ore, of course he affirmed and then he saw his bag deflate and 5 out of his 9 boxes fill with stacks of ten.

Oh, the game had changed.

It was a strange feeling, it felt like there was a stiffness in his shoulders as he made his way to the cart. It was when he dumped it all into the cart that the feeling went away. He was actually thankful that he was getting this bit of practice with the E.T.S. and being such a big nerd, he wanted to push it to its limits. A quick refill of water and he was back at it with a renewed vigor, sure his arms felt heavy but it felt like he was doing even better at the whole thing. After a while longer, fighting through the building soreness and his fatigue, the system pinged and his goal appeared.

He could feel some differences. The pickaxe in his hand felt natural, like an extension of his body; it felt lighter and when it hit the wall, the impact just felt a bit more meatier. There was also a subtle change in his own body, like the constant work of his muscles felt as if they had a bit definition. He still felt weak but it was an improvement none-the-less.

Dropping off the latest load of ores and topping off on his water, Marz gave it a sip and it suddenly felt that he got his second wind; soreness gone, an abundance of energy, and any scrapes he had were healed.

This was cheating, and he was loving it! Marz was not going to let the momentum go so he went back to the wall.

---------------

Krung was following the same path that his predecessor had taken when he was a newling. Teach them how to mine, give the pep talk and get them to work. It was a basic way of doing thing, but of course the last-hatch seemed to be an issue. They were a freak, long and sickly looking, with a lack of enthusiasm they were supposed to have. When he saw them work, it was pathetic, they could barely hold the pick right and it looked like his body rattled when he hit the rock. But something... odd happened. The last-hatched began to work harder, it was as if he found his own motivation and he was improving! It might've seemed like a natural thing of course, to actually get into the rhythm of things, but this was a bit too fast. He was just going to have to keep a closer eye on things, whatever it was, he didn't like it.
