Chapter 49: Taking over 2

Walter walked up close, seemingly interested in the organised crime syndicate that Leonard had suspected.

"Yes, why?"

"Nothing much, if it was this big that it could attack a well-known government entity then I guess it's not just some organised syndicate."

Walter is talking to Leonard, eye to eye. This wouldn't happen in the original iteration at all if Leonard wasn't a third-rate villain.

"Yes, true."

Leonard squinted his eyes at Walter, It made Walter sweat cold for a bit. Whatever he is thinking, Leonard is against it.

Walter, however, isn't familiar with Leonard, all he could think of is that once he is on top, Leonard would be a rival. His talent in magic is unparalleled by his standards.

"Did the terrorist ever introduce themselves?"

The professor who was among the students chimed in after hearing what Leonard asked, probably out of worry.

"Zurtin Brites, don't think much of it. They will be hunted down."

'Knowing that these are noble children they will surely hold a grudge'

"Zurtin Brites, they have demons and people who could use black magic at their disposal. The Royal family will hear about this, right?"

Leonard inquired, his smile enigmatic as ever, even though he wasn't negotiating he wanted a satisfactory answer.

"Of course. I doubt the Royal family would ignore what happened today."

Right, the Academy is the only high-learning institute on the continent. It's like having Harvard as the only university in the world and everyone is forced to go there to get their degrees.

So the Royal family is partially responsible for maintaining this Academy, even though the Academy is supposed to be an independent entity.

"Right, Zurtin brites. This organisation seems to have grown already. It'll take some time to nip it on its last root."

"Are you going to take action?"

Walter, who was on the sideline, asked.

"Me? Hell no, I'll let the professional do that. Why would I bother when I'm still weak?"

Silence descended around Leonard, they were looking at him as if he was denying the power he had shown.

"Admit it, if they knew what I could do there would be more casualties."

Leonard shrugged as everybody agreed upon what he spoke. The ability to conjure shadows at your disposal is not something they expected out of Leonard.

'They haven't seen what I could do yet.'

Leonard thought to himself, everything he had learned in the circus is still a tightly held secret.

—boom!

"Another one."

Yula clicked her tongue.

"Aye, what the fuck are they bombing there anyways? The great Arcanus artefacts?"

The professor twitched, it was subtle, very subtle indicating they were trying not to show it. Leonard and the gang, however, were very sensitive to these tiny changes and couldn't help but release a sigh.

"I recovered enough mana. Lenneza, Yula. Why won't you try and help the professors outside?"

"What no! That's insane!" The professor interjected.

"Do you know what's fucking insane prof?! The fact that the terrorists are not only aiming to whittle down noble children but also fucking stealing the remains of the Great Arcanus in their hands!"

"And you propose the two closest people to you to go there and help?!"

"Of course! Who would block the fucking hole in the wall, you?"

The professor bit his tongue but stayed quiet. But of course, Lenneza and Yula won't go alone.

"I'll come."

Walter opened his tongue, Yula slightly gave a dissatisfied face before being placed with a sigh.

"I come as well."

Abigail chimed in, all four were a bit rugged but they didn't mind. The professor who was watching over them is a bit reluctant to let them go. They're still young! He was internally screaming.

"Alright, I supposed that everyone knows the Academic grounds that you can roam freely?"

"..."

"Sir."

The professor was shocked. No way is he leaving the hall of freshmen, the others seem reluctant as well.

"I'm not—"

"You won't, just tell them where the Arcanus artefacts are."

The professor was relieved, if more noble children were placed in danger he would get his ass handed to the angry nobles.

Lenneza, Yula showed no reluctance to Leonard's suggestion. They knew the dangers of what they were about to do but they did not once question why Leonard tasked them with such a heavy task.

But both did question how Leonard is going to explain how he knew the relevance of the Arcanus artefacts. Those were only known by the sophomores and only a legend to the freshmen.

The reason could be that they were nobles, and knowing something about the history of the Academy is as simple as taking candy from a baby. But no, Leonard emphasized the importance of the Arcanus artefacts and the terrorists taking it being bad.

Nobody has ever known how the artefacts worked nor how useful it is. Except for a few. Lenneza, who was blessed by mana and gave her instant casting. And second, Abigail, who was blessed by the light, her constitution being fundamentally different from others.

That's why they didn't question going after the Artefacts. If the terrorists have their hands on that powerful equipment… they could only imagine the destruction they lay in their wake.

"Okay, Lenneza here."

"...?"

Leonard held out a hand, in his palm, there was a ruby held by a necklace. Lenneza's eyes slowly widened as she remembered what this Ruby meant.

"Her… creation seems to boost magical power. Keep this safe or else I'll tell Lorraine."

"... I'll make sure not to lose this."

Lenneza took the necklace, this necklace is an heirloom left to Leonard by his mother, she doesn't know why he would willingly give it to her even temporarily.

Leonard seems to have read Lenneza's face and gave a low chuckle.

"You're family, so don't look at me like that."

An itch made its way to Lenneza's heart, but then Yula and Lenneza got pushed out the door by Leonard. Walter and Abigail blankly looked at him at the way he treated his close and loved ones.

"What are you two looking at? Go out and work with what you have in your Arsenal."

Now the squad is out Leonard closed the door in the hall. Information of the location of the Artifacts and twelve-year-old children ready to fight some terrorists on the go.
