Chapter 58: The Xyn

Blue threads floated atop each other, the moment they collided it was reasonable. The threads would merge and become intertwined even though they have no relation.

Causation within the threads is just a system, the system of all starting points. When one blue thread collides with another a cause of an event is the probable suspect.

Yuri looked at these threads, his time is limited within this realm, he tried too hard to find which thread of fate was the cause of all of this but the threads had probably unwound and had already changed.

"Fuck!"

At the end of his journey, he only found out about a few hundred thousand causes why Leonard disappeared, and a major of them leads to death, he didn't care about such probability only for the times in which he survived.

Leonard is a variable, his fate is continuously being unveiled, much like a newborn. But thanks to his fate being newly hatched, it was difficult for Yuri to perfectly point out which he is following with the current evidence.

Much to his frustration, he manages to find a few possibilities in which Leonard manages to get out.

"There's only four of them."

In the end, Yuri only has four threads that he hopes are possible. He cannot interfere with the fates of individuals, only create new ones with his interference. But that much is a gamble.

Yuri ended his walk in the path of fates, going back to the reality he always knew. A few ringing in the head made him put a hand on the head.

"I know, but I still have no idea what and why you're favouring that child."

"..."

"No, Out of everyone on this planet there's only two who are an equivalent threat to the demon king."

"..."

"Huh? What do you mean five?"

"..."

"His sister? Fiance and the princess?"

"..."

Yuri sighed, another command from the gods.

Leonard looked around, his surroundings now different before he got sent to the dungeon. One thing that is widely known about the dungeon is that they have mana veins around the walls, this one doesn't.

After minutes of silence, he heard footsteps, well, more like clacks on the stone floor. His mind didn't make a fool of him, what he saw indeed were insectoid people.

Arachnids, exactly. They have two sets of legs and two sets of arms. If Leonard didn't know any better he would have screamed, pulled out a gun and shot at them.

"Hello, human."

"Hello" Leonard, who is on a silk bed, bowed his head "Residents of the dungeon."

"Haha, right."

"Sorry, but may I ask something out of curiosity?"

"Well, we're here to talk anyways. So please do so."

Leonard nodded, residents of the dungeon had the same drive to kill people as the normal dungeon monster, but the fact that these people saved him made him curious.

"Why save me?"

"Ah, yes. One would be curious about that."

The Spiderfolk in front of him introduced himself as a Xyn, one of many sentient lifeforms in the dungeon.

"Our seers had already foreseen this coming." The Xyn pointed at Leonard "You were a long time coming, already expected years ago."

This naturally confused and shocked Leonard, what does he mean?

"Do you… Already know my name?"

The mandibles of the Xyn clack, it nodded before speaking. "Let us formally introduce ourselves. I'm Ziquir Zhar'kerut, one of the Arcane practitioners of our society."

Ziquir? Leonard is not aware of this naturally. This never happened in the novel, so he was threading his lines here.

"I'm Leonard Heil Marchen. The heir of a noble from the surface."

"Well then, Leonard. As I said earlier. Your coming has been foreseen, and it is greatly beneficial for us to help you."

Zhar'kerut spoke regally, he has a slight arrogance in his tone, as if this is just a meagre chore in his life.

"May I ask why?"

"The surface has no relevance to us, but one of our seers foresaw that our destruction is imminent, and the cause is on the surface."

Leonard recalls his memories of what happened to the dungeon after the descent of the demon king in the human continent. But nothing came up, it's probably forgotten or dungeons are irrelevant to the story enough that the author didn't add it in.

"So, what is my part here?"

Zhar'kerut's mandibles were raised so terrifyingly that Leonard couldn't help but have his back filled with cold sweat. Sadly for him, the Xyn only finds his reaction amusing.

"What else? Don't you have to go back to the surface?"

When Zhar'kerut pointed that out he couldn't help but have his mind blank. Maybe the reason for the destruction of the dungeon was that he wasn't there to stir up the storyline.

Is that why? But wasn't the demon king dead? Leonard had his mind racing. He could probably see the intent of the Xyn in front of him.

They plan to help him but only to get him up to the surface, the mana below this dungeon is going to kill Leonard by mana poisoning if he doesn't move.

"Yes, going back to the surface is my initial plan."

"Right, but you will not be able to get up there easily." The Xyn shook his head "We are the inhabitants of the dungeon and are on the lowest floor, we cannot go up more than two floors. We will help you get stronger. But whatever happens within your ascent is not our problem anymore."

"Isn't your home's integrity on my shoulders?"

"If you die, after all, we're about to teach you.

You failing will be our fault to even believe in you." with a hissing tongue. (or mandible?)

'The way he said it hurts a bit.'

"Wait, now that I notice it, how could we understand each other?"

"Ah, I used a glyph. So don't worry about it." Zhar'kerut waved dismissively.

'A glyph? Not a rune?'

Runes are the known ancient and powerful language that commands magic, it's more powerful than having command over mana like Leonard or having instant casting like Lenneza.

Furthermore, Runes are not easily made or replicated, the amount of pure mana needed to even make a single character of rune work is abysmal.

Runes also have the ability to translate languages in real-time, but now a Glyph? This got Leonard's curiosity more.

"I could see the eagerness in your body language, Leonard. But no, we will not teach you Glyphs."

"Do you know runes?"

"Yes, we have known runes for a long time. After all, runes are needed to cast Arcane magic."

"Oh, then what do Glyphs cast?"

Zhar'kerut's mandibles clack, Leonard assumes this is a Xyn equivalent to a chuckle.

"Primordial magic."

Leonard decided to leave it at that, he still has to recover and go back to the surface. Being taught Arcane magic and coming back stronger is a good thing already given by these people. He had no reason to antagonise them.

"Well, learning Arcane magic is enough." Leonard smiled wryly.

Right now he is thinking how OP Lenneza would be once he taught her Arcane magic, Leonard then looked at the Xyn.

"Before anything else, teach me your language."
