Chapter 2: Chapter 2 Lucis Strife
Looking around, the villagers began whispers among themselves and look worried about his presence here, Vidar start feeling anxious.
"er ehem.. Where is this place?" Vidar look at the village chief. Suddenly everyone shut up and look at Vidar.
"you.." the village chief hesitate a bit. "this is DragonFort village. May I know the purpose of you coming to this place?" the village chief continue, he have the best knowledge among the villagers and used to be a traveling merchant himself until he settled down after he married one of the villager here.
Looking at the anxious village chief, Vidar remind himself again that Elder Wicken is still hot on his tail.
"I just stumbled on this village accidentally, I was chased by wild beast in the mountains and got this injury. I didn't mean any harm, I can leave now if you don't want me here." Vidar know how they feel about his presence here, and with all the chasing for 4 months, he doesn't feel safe among the crowd.
"ah, it's almost that time." one of the middle-age man speak behind the village Elder.
"poor kid, look at your injury. It's lucky that you manage to run from a wild beast."
"it's dangerous out there, you shouldn't go in the forest"
A bunch of concern comment from the villagers. They're all kind people and down to earth personality as far as Vidar concerned. The town he previously visit rat on him as soon as he sit down.
The village elder stand up and start discussing among the village in a low voice like it's some kind of a secret. Some nod and shaking head can be seen.
Vidar just ignore them and check the treasure he hid on his belt. It's a small sack filled with small oval jade.This is known as jade slip or memory slip and accessible only to cultivator or magician in this world.
This world is different from earth, here, magician also known as cultivator is advanced in a different way, they can harness and absorb the world energy Vidar call mana in their body to cast magic or strengthened their body. Here monster occupied 90% of the world and all the technology revolving around world energy. The world is similar to medieval era in the world, they focus more on magic weapons more than improving their live style.
The living being here can grow stronger with cultivation but it's entirely different from what Vidar know from novel and comic, there's no level up and instantly become stronger. No matter how one change realm here, if they don't have enough amount of power, then they're no different from beginner. The said realm is only the level of body that have been modified with energy.
The only similarity to the novel is how they use this energy. Some people can strengthen their body. The west call these people knight and the east call this body refining cultivator. While the magician can store and use this energy to cast a spell, the eastern cultivator use this energy to unleash their combat skill similar to magician spell. Of course there's also people that focus on both refining their body and casting a spell, what matter the most is how they use this energy.
Energy conversion is the first thing Vidar focus on learning as soon as he regained his memory in this world. All the energy that people absorbed converted according to their cultivation technique. For example, NorseLightning clan absorb the world energy and it became similar to lighten element in their body. While they use this stored energy to unleash their skill, this energy also tempered their body at the same time.
"young man, I'm the village Elder. You can call me old man Dun. What should we call you?" the elder approached Vidar again looking more calm than before without any trace of caution on his face.
Vidar hesitate a bit, thinking which name he should use. His name on earth "Vidar" comes from his father "darth vader," he reluctant to use it in this new world, he's not even a fan of these movie in the first place. his name here "Rugist" while it sounds... okay, he worried that elder wicken would found him again.
"just call me Lucis Strife" he said awkwardly, he subconsciously remember that game from earth.
"a noble!"
"he's from a noble clan!"
"I never seen a noble before."
He got different reactions from what he expected. Surname is only entitle to noble and aristocrat in this world very similar to medieval earth. Not to mention royal, Lukas verdin Tang, the second prince of Mardiv kingdom where this endless mountain located. There's also "Ordin merval Ren Ordaz" the emperor ruling over the north. It's sounds ridiculous really..
"you're from noble family?" the chief look at him with a bit frightened expression. He knew how troublesome to deal with nobles during his day as merchant. They're arrogant and kill people casually. One or two village erased is morning breakfast for these people.
"I'm not, not anymore. I come very far from this continent, I'm the only one left of my family." (I'll call him Lucis from now on) Lucis know what they're thinking, he's very experienced from all the drama and novel including his own life experience from earth.
"aah.. How unfortunate." the farmers behind the chief looking at him with condolences expression making him feel a bit guilty but he refused to add more comments.
"is this place still within Golit empire?" he worried that the teleportation only send him nearby. He knows that Wicken Elder will chase him again once his presence here spreading outside.
"Golit, where's that?"
"Gorlit empire? Is that some clan?"
"what do you know, you never leave this place. The world is bigger than you think."
"it must be where he come from."
The villagers began discussing among themselves. Looking around expecting answer but what to expect, the farthest they have gone to is the village 70km from here and that's only for trading once every year.
The elder quickly raise his hand gesturing everyone to keep quiet.
"this is endless mountain, Mardiv kingdom. We never heard of that place you talking about." the elder look at him suspiciously.
After hearing that, Lucis suddenly let a sigh of relief. He's been on alert since he's wake up and ready to run at a moments notice.
The village chief keep interrogate him with all kind of question before they finally nod and allow him to stay after he disperse the crowd.
"you can use this house for the time being, the owner's no longer with us. Take some rest here, I'll send you some food later." The elder tap Lucis shoulder acting the senior generation before he leave Lucis heading his own house.
The house really small without any furniture. It's 6 meter long and 5 meter wide. The floor is literally just dirt and the place Lucis laying is only covered with dry hay grass. Lucis even doubt that maybe this place is chicken barn.
The villagers start gossiping around while the young girls peeking at him. After all, the village is small and all the houses is build close to each other, rumor travel fast than the winds here.
While the men at Lucis age already married one or two wife in the village, the women population is just higer than men. all the men is either already taken, leave the village or died earlier from wild beast so the husband type is really rare here. Unless they're willing to be a third or fourth wife, most of them doesn't have a partner in this village.
Lucis appearance attracting the maiden attention and start sizing him up as husband candidates. If he's really a noble as the rumor said, being a concubine doesn't sounds bad either. Of course, Lucis doesn't know that he's already being mark by now. All he think about is treating his injury.
